5 of 5 Great sound for price Friday, February 25, 2005
johnwatters from Wilmington,MA.

I just recieved my IM2 and the sound is great for the price you pay. I checked out higher priced ones and this sounds just as good as they do. I'm very happy with the sound and quality.

5 of 5 A Must Have Wednesday, January 19, 2005
DZ from Albuquerque, NM
Bought this great speaker set here. The speakers are very portable and have a great sound compared to my laptop speakers. These speakers would be great for an MP3 player and of course it's built for an ipod.

4 of 5 Great Sound in a Convienient Package Monday, January 10, 2005
A Customer from Hayward, CA
After listening to the white "iPod" version of this product, I was suprised to see this comparable part selling for much less so I ordered one immediately. This lower priced part performs just as well, though it does not allow the iPod to dock directly, the difference in price makes that subtle difference acceptable. Overall the best sound compact foldable speakers I have ever heard! They truly create room fulling sound complete with some bass and clear treble. No distortion even at maximum levels. A great choice for someone living in an apartment or dorm, or for those on the go. Flexible, convienient and portable speakers usually sound terrible, but these ones work well for the money.

5 of 5 A nice package Tuesday, January 04, 2005
Granger from Ithaca NY
Just what you want when headphones aren't enough. Decent sound for such a compact and portable package. The bass holds up well though it's a bit hollow and there's no shrillness in the highs. Very good for extended listening. Also includes the cable you need to hook up your portable mp3 or cd player plus a nice multivoltage AC adapter when you don't have to use the batteries. It should stand up well to the stresses of travel.

5 of 5 Great Speakers for the Money Tuesday, December 28, 2004
A Customer from Indianapolis, IN
Have always been disappointed in small portable speakers. Bought this set because reviews were positive and for the price I didn't have much to lose. I was very surprised with the sound quality. Good bass response for the size. Can't beat these when compared to the older brother $100+ iPod version. Very pleased.

5 of 5 Great sound for a small package Monday, December 20, 2004
A Customer from Irvine, CA
Like the other reviewers, I found the sound quality on these speakers to be a perfect match with my Ipod. No sound distortion even when pressing the limits of the volume. Decent base (without a separate subwoofer) and convienence of fold-up packaging makes this a great set of portable speakers.

2 of 5 Nice but it could be handier to use Sunday, December 05, 2004
barry from Houston, TX
First this thing sounds great for battery operated small speakers. I was surprised at how well it fills a small room with pretty good sound. But there are a few flaws in the design. First, the volume position starts out too low to hear every time you turn it on. It should remember it's volume setting from the last session. When it's in use the cord sticks out the back making it effectively larger than it is. The space between the speakers is the obvious place to put the MP3 player but they seem to have done everything possible to prevent that. The angle of the back and smoothness of the base make it impossible to stand anything in that spot and they've designed it so that it's very difficult to attach anything there. That means when you move it around you have to carry the player and the speakers seperately. There should be a small inset in the base to hold the player in position. This thing is definately not portable in the sense that you can carry it easily. It's meant to stay in one place. That's not to say I'm sorry I bought it. It won't work for my intended use but I've put it on my nightstand for listening to audiobooks in bed in the morning before I get up; something I enjoy doing. This thing is great for that. The sound is good. I leave it plugged in so it's always ready. I can't turn it off because then I have to reset the volume level again, so I just leave it on. It doesn't use much power. Barry

5 of 5 Great Deal at sale price Friday, November 19, 2004
jpj from Ocean Park. WA
I reviewed virtually all of the portable speakers available for ipods. The quality of these are as good as any portable speakers I heard. There might be better sound quality with some other options but they are not as portable or easy to use. Although not as convenient as the IM3, at $39.99 they were a steal..

4 of 5 Excellent Sound Tuesday, November 09, 2004
A Customer from Plantation, FL
Only drawback is that volume returns to 0 after turning off. But sound is excellent for speakers this size. Don't know how they do it but these small speakers have very good bass response. Plastic case is very easy to scratch. Nomad Jukebox Xtra is too big to fit in between the speakers, but newer and smaller MP3 players will do, like Zen Micro, Rio Carbon, etc. These are the same speakers used in the Altec Lansing IM iPod version without the circuit to hook up an iPod.

5 of 5 Great with iPod!!!! Monday, October 11, 2004
A Customer from Chicago, IL
These are great speakers for an mp3 player (specifically the iPod.) You great a big sound out of them (and with the EQ settings on the iPod, you can adjust bass, treble, etc.) The speakers are very portable, and even come with an AC Power source. A must have for the price.

5 of 5 Well worth the price. Tuesday, September 28, 2004
A Customer from Easton, PA
This review is based upon the sound from the Altec Lansing inMotion. I corresponded with a customer service rep from Altec Lansing because 1 week after purchasing the inMotion speakers (they have built in connector with power source for the iPod) the IM2 came onto the market AT LESS THAN 1/2 THE PRICE! Needless to say, when he advised me that the sound quality is EXACTLY the same and the specs are the same I was a little miffed (especially since I don't own or use an iPod). The visual difference between the IM and IM2 appears to be that the IM2 has left and right single 2" speakers VS. IM's 2 left and 2 Right 1" speakers. Assuming the specs are the same (as stated above), BUY THESE PORTABLE SPEAKERS! I have listened to many of the portable speakers available for mp3 players and have been singularly unimpressed. You would get better fidelity from a portable FM radio (anyone remember those?) In other words, a small tinny sound that distorts with volume. Not the case with the IM speakers. They give a comparatively full range of sound at a fairly loud listening level. These are great for the traveler who doesn't want to lug a whole sound system (I use it with my Palm Tungsten with Realplayer for Palm and 2 512 MB SD cards which gives me 15-20 CDs of music on the go. Perfect for a business trip or long weekend away from my home stereo) Plays in a hotel room using the included AC adapter, or in the park using 4 AA batteries. I was so impressed with the IM that I just bought 2 IM2s to give as gifts for friends who are musical road warriors (one owns a Dell and the other a Creative 20GB mp3 unit) This will work with ANY unit with an output plug (even if it is just earphone plug!)

4 of 5 Great Deal Thursday, September 23, 2004
John from Cincinnati, OH
There seems to be a flap in the center where an iPod could rest but I'm afraid to tear it out. Has anyone tried? Perfect for trips. Just about right for a hotel room. I like the way it folds into a nice compact shape.

5 of 5 Best Portable Speakers Yet Friday, September 17, 2004
A Customer from Senoia, GA
I have been searching high and low for portable speakers that produce an acceptable sound quality. In fact, I recently spent about 90 dollars on the Sony SRS-T88, but saw the low price on the Altecs and had to buy them. The sound quality from these speakers is far superior to the Sonys, and the price is right!

5 of 5 Very compact with decent sound Tuesday, September 07, 2004
Bob from Tampa
These speakers sound very good with reasonable response especially considering their size. Plenty of crisp audio to fill a small room. Bass is OK, but not spectacular -- about as good as expected. Battery life is excellent. They power up with the amp turned way down, which is a nice feature. You can overdrive them with earphone level outputs if you are not careful. The only really negative thing I can see with this set is the unprotected slide type power switch. If you aren't careful, the amp could be turned on in your luggage or backpack and thus run down the batteries. Overall, a good bargain on sale.

5 of 5 Fantastic Value and great performance Friday, September 03, 2004
Andrew from New York, NY
I was shocked to see these speakers offered at such a low price, considering every other retailer was selling them for over $100! I was surprised with the loud and clear sound. This thing is able to produce pretty good bass considering its small size. The speakers also look very sleek and the speakers fold away, making the speakers easy to carry around (about the size of a thick DVD case). My one complaint would be having to turn the volume up every time I turn on the speakers (it resets after being turned off). I haven't testing battery life but I am sure it is adequate. Over-all, fantastic value and performance. if you are looking for some great sounding and very portable speakers, choose these speakers.

5 of 5 Great Value and performance Monday, August 30, 2004
Jose from La Mirada, CA
Know what you're buying. These convenient little speakers are exactly what they claim. They are highly portable and provide a really nice sound for a small area without a lot of space. Another great feature is the included power cord. I use these for my Dell Jukebox and they compare very favorably to the higher priced TravelSound speakers. Don't expect your room to shake when you listen, but they are nice for the price.

5 of 5 Heck yeah II Friday, August 27, 2004
A Customer from Bay City, MI
I should add that this thing likes batteries. I played it for about five hours on almost full power and the four AA Duracells are running low. Probably worth buying some rechargeables.

5 of 5 sweeeet Thursday, August 19, 2004
wickedpete from Jax, FL
So far, I'm very pleased with these speakers... the sound is very crisp and clear and my Dell DJ fits perfect in between the speakers. I can't fit a power cord on to my dj when its in there, but i guess thats no flaw of the speakers. As you might imagine, bass at loud volumes will break up a bit. You aren't goin to 'feel' the bass, but these certainly dont sound 'tinny'. Its a nice full sound. For fourty bucks, you cant go wrong!

5 of 5 Great for their size Saturday, August 14, 2004
joda from goleta, ca
These speakers actually sound really good. I've now tried them with a variety of genres, and they have me impressed. The claim of MaxxBass or whatever isn't entirely accurate, but you really should know better than to think two inch speakers can pump out bass. They do go fairly low and fairly loud, but it isn't physically possible to have great bass (that is, thumping bass) from a small cone. The sound fills my small apartment, and they fit easily in my bag with my laptop. For sound quality, think mid- to hi-end desktop computer speakers. For size, think hardbound novel. Oh, and if you know of the other A-L inMotion speakers for iPod, they sound about the same. My only complaint is that they are blue. Anyone have a blue laptop? Didn't think so. I was kind of hoping they were greyish. Oh well, no one ever accused me of being stylish either.
