5 of 5 Cordless headphones Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Ken from Seattle

These Altec Lansing headphones are the best of the 6 or so brands I've tried. I also have Altec Lansing speakers on my computer and I used to have "stero speakers from the same company" many years ago. These headphones are very light weight and comfortable & so far have not had a problem with them staying in place on my head. They are very easy to use,I really like the fact they will work far from the base, so far the best distance has been around 75 ft from the base. I've really had no problems with them unlike the last couple pairs I've tried. I'm very happy with them!

1 of 5 Not as promised Sunday, February 22, 2009
rkcts from Waukegan
The wireless headphone is not working as advertised. The sound breaks in between because of intermittent loss of wireless connectivity. There seems to be a defect in charging of the batteries. The headpiece is quite heavy for prolonged use. Ovreall not satisfied though I like the brand which has previously proved to be good.

4 of 5 Useful device Monday, January 19, 2009
A Customer from Princeton, NJ
Useful device, but a little fiddly to operate -- sometimes a bit hard to turn on at the headset. It turns out that because I wear hearing aids an on-the-ear unit would have been better for me (I get annoying feedback in the hearing aids.), but that's not the fault of the equipment.

5 of 5 Overall happy with the headphones Sunday, January 06, 2008
Bill from Fayetteville, NC
<p>The first pair I received quit working after a few hours and had to be returned. The replacement pair has worked fine but is at times hard to turn off justifying my rating of 3 for ease of use. The on/off button also operates the channel scan so the instructions say to hold the button down for 4 seconds to turn them off. Sometimes it takes fiddling for a while to get them to turn off.</p> <p> Value: for $50 with free shipping, no complaints here. I've been a loyal buy.com customer for years for just this reason.</p> <p> Performance: The range is good for me. I am able to wonder through the entire first floor, only picking up a little background hiss at the farthest point with a wall of stainless steel appliances blocking the direct line.</p> <p> The manual warns not to place the base unit on top of the tv or equipment, and they are right. The unit will experience some noise and interference, so proper placement of the base unit has a lot to do with the performance and range.</p> <p> I like the sound quality. Highs are clear and crisp without being overly bright. Bass is well rounded with good punch, could be just a touch stronger for my taste, but overall still good. Altec Lansing has manufactured some of the top speaker systems for decades including their famous "voice of the theater" monsters that were long the cinema standard, so I jumped on these in part due to the AL reputation. I've had no issues with battery life as they have lasted the few hours at a time I use them with ease. I like the fact that they are replaceable, standard size rechargeable batteries, and a spare set can always be popped in if they drain during use.</p> <p> The headset is comfortable to wear, not overly heavy, but I would not want to wear any full headphones for more than a few hours at a time. The self adjusting headband seems at times like it is a bit unstable, but that may be due to being used to the feeling of having a band tightly against the top of my head rather than two inches above the way this band sits. I have not had a problem with them falling off, but would be careful while wearing them for a strenuous exercise routine.</p> <p> Overall: very happy with the purchase. Performance is good and I'll live with the quirky on/off button. For the price paid, value is excellent.</p>

2 of 5 poor quality and cannot charge 3 batteries Thursday, January 03, 2008
bootucker10 from gardnerville , nv
The head phones initially charged and worked a few hours. then it would not charge the batteries after placing them back in the cradle. the red charging light would not indicate . The 3 aaa batteries cannot be charged together in an external charger , only 2 at a time , therefore useless for operation when the headset doesn't function . i would not recommend this product ...

3 of 5 Okay but a power button Tuesday, January 01, 2008
Frank430 from Hyde Park, NY
Altec Lansing has always been a good product line for me. I have a set of Altec Lansing Speakers with subwoofer and they are excellent. These headphones are clear when the signal is locked in, which I would think would always happen if you are only 9 feet away, like I am. However, if I turn my head to the right I get quite a bit of static. Then when I turn my head to the left, the static goes away. I really don't think that should happen only 9 feet away from the base unit. Not a major issue, just a little bit annoying. The thing that has me really perplexed is the power button function. It seems in order to turn the headphones on, I need to hold the power button in for almost 15 seconds. Not what I would call a good design by any means. Then the real killer is when I go to shut the headphones off. I can stand there and hold the button in for literally minutes at a time and NOTHING happens. I have to put the headphones back on the charging cradle and the take them off and then I can push the power button to turn them off. I don't think I would recommend these to anyone just based on my experience. I might just go get a pair of Sony headphones instead.

1 of 5 Very bad sound quality Monday, December 31, 2007
marcbrenner from Lafayette, CA
I got these for a great price but are really worthless due to slight buzz at the high frequency end. Incredibly annoying to have constant buzz, clip of voice dialog. No matter how many frequency scans, or adjusting gain, the buzz remains. Avoid these or you will be sorry. I have some really old 900 mhz wireless phones that these were going to replace but the old ones aren't this bad. Shameful design, I can't imagine they released these.

3 of 5 Poor Transmitter Monday, December 17, 2007
A Customer from NJ
I just purchased Altech Lansing Wireless Over-the-Head Studio Headphones and wasn't pleased with its performance of tranmitter. Right off the back I encountred trouble linking the headphone with transmitter. I tried many different connections, all I could get is glowing steady red light. I called support, they suggested I put the headphone on transmitter to link it. The first time I was able to receive audio, after I hung up I lost audio and couldn't link the headphones with the transmitter. I now have the lovely task of having to request a new transmitter. I know its the transmitter that's defective, because I'm currently using another manufacture transmitter from a old pair of wireless headphones I purchased from Sharper Image, and I'm linking with it without any problems. The transmitter is chessy borderline cheap, too many buttons on headphones, overall the performance of the headphone is good with great audio clear reception, and have great range, you can hear audio through walls and floors. Bad customer support, too long of wait to speak with rep, and when they finally answered my call the tech support took too long to help me by resolving my problem as if he wasn't trained. Save your money for a decent pair of wireless headphones, Altec Lansing Wireless Headphones transmitter is too cheesy!

Works as advertised. Very comfortable, easy to connect and use, and much less expensive than "tv ears".

4 of 5 not the best, but they will do Monday, December 17, 2007
A Customer from Miami, FLa
Bought them for $50 and although they have some hissing issues when you walk away more then 25-30 feet, thry do the job while standing or lying in front of them. The controls take some getting used to, but for the price they were adequate

1 of 5 Not a good set of headphones Sunday, December 16, 2007
Larry from Grand Rapids MI.
I was really dissappointed with these headphones. As the previous reviewer said it was somewhat difficult to tune them in with the flashing light. Once they finally connected I had sound only in the left ear. Very little if any from the right. There are no separate volume controls for either side. If I touched or slightly moved the right side I lost the sound completely from both sides. I would have to tap the right side to get it to reconnect. There was a high pitched whine from the head phones also. Possible it was my amp but I thought the 900 mhz freq would have alleviated that. I was not happy that Buy.com would only send a replacement. Why do I want another lousy product?

1 of 5 Not worth it Thursday, December 13, 2007
Brian from Wilmington, DE
I read a previous review and thought this would be a good solution for my cubicle. Range is terrible, volume adjustment is difficult, the RF transmission clips peaks, has an electronic whine, and at the moment will not connect with the base. Skip this one and look for something else. I am going to return it.

3 of 5 Wireless is wireless Monday, December 10, 2007
A Customer from Hyde Park, UT
I've always been an avid fan of wires, because I just know they'll work. But when enough is enough...well, I had to try wireless just once. So, I needed some new headphones and decided I'd risk my money on these guys, since they were knocked down from $150 (meaning they're probably pretty decent). I have to say, I'm disappointed. Very. It claims a range of up to 150 ft, and, technically, it reaches that (I actually got it to go a bit farther than that), but the overall quality is rather poor. If you can get it in a position where you get a clear signal, the sound is great. The problem is that it's hard to get into such a position. Initially, I thought it was just going a bit out of the way, and I had no problem just hanging around close to the base. However, I began to notice that even when I just tilt my head a bit in the wrong direction it gets fuzzy, and, though it normally wouldn't be a big deal, I find myself very distracted by it when I'm doing my homework. Definitely wouldn't be worth the $150 it initially asks for, but maybe I just got a bad pair from the rest, because I can't see how this would be even worth $50 for anyone who doesn't like small noises.

2 of 5 Nice sound but poor fit Wednesday, December 05, 2007
A Customer from State College, PA
Looking for a bargain wireless headset, I thought I would bite on the Altecs. I was pleased with the sound but the headsets are very uncomfortable. The auto adjusting headband is too loose to hold the headphones in the proper position so they are actually held up by the earcups surrounding the ears. I could only wear them 5 minutes before I decided to return them.

5 of 5 so far so good Monday, December 25, 2006
A Customer from Sauk Rapids, Minnesota
When I first got them I questioned if the range on them would even reliably go the 50 feet of our house because there is a lot of metal between my computer and most of the rooms in the house but they seem to work fine all over and have very little static unless something like a running microwave is between me and the base. The only issue I discovered was that our neighbors have a 900mhtz cordless phone and every time their phone would ring when the headphones were on channel one they would lose signal with the base, switching to channel 2 solved that. The sound quality is very good so far and compared to the cheap pairs I have owned; they are pretty good on bass. I have yet to see how long the batteries last in them but since they are normal Nimh rechargeable batteries they should last fairly long (and if you want longer you can always replace their, rather likely low quality, default rechargeable batteries with better ones.)
