| | | Almost History...Almost Legends...Mostly Ridiculous. Features: DVD, Widescreen, Aspect Ratio 1.85:1, English, French, Spanish, Subtitled It was a time of heroes. Well, almost. They were hearty men in those days. Men who, like Bartholomew Hunt and Leslie Edwards, made sure that when adventure called, it got a wrong number. Chris Farley and Matthew Perry team with director Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show) to venture into uncharted comedy territory. Where explorers Lewis and Clark go, Hunt (Farley) and Edwards (Perry) follow, hoping to overtake the famed expeditioners and be the more fiery trailblazers. In a land dotted with bears, native tribes, pioneer outposts and wandering conquistadors having a bad hair day, is there not also room for two more adventurers eager to make a name for themselves? Westward ho-ho-ho!
 Editor's Note
Perry's proper pioneer gentleman and Farley's hapless, bumbling, boozy trail guide complement each other splendidly in this prairie caper/buddy picture/road movie. Circumstances throw our stars together for a rugged westward trek and hilarious hijinx ensue. One of Farley's last film roles before his death.

| | Professional Reviews | The New York Times 3 of 10 The film isn't much of a legacy for Chris Farley, who died last December at the age of 33. He plays Hunt, of course. And it doesn't do much for the nascent film career of Matthew Perry, who plays Edwards. Both actors do manage to convey some general comic appeal, but with awfully thin material. - Anita Gates James Berardinelli's ReelViews 2 of 10 Several days after having seen this movie, I'm still trying to determine what director Christopher Guest, a man whose sense of humor I usually appreciate, found funny in either the concept or the execution of Almost Heroes. This is a dreadful motion picture - a lowbrow example of period piece comedy with terrible production values and an exceptionally poor laughs-to-jokes ratio. There's a kind of desperation in the movie's approach to humor that reveals the film makers' uncertainty about how entertaining the material is; the manic style betrays itself as a last-ditch attempt to hide the flaws of a failed script. - James Berardinelli
