| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Upon an initial glance, the track listing for the All About the Benjamins soundtrack isn't too impressive. There aren't many big names here, and the big names that are here offer previously released songs: B.G.'s "Bling Bling," the O'Jays' "For the Love of Money," and Puff Daddy's "It's All About the Benjamins." Furthermore, considering Ice Cube stars in this film, you'd think he'd contribute a song, but there isn't even a previously released song by him here. However, if you give this soundtrack a listen, you'll discover that there's actually quite a few quality songs here. First of all, the aforementioned previously released songs are undeniably great and certainly fit the film's theme. Furthermore, the Puff Daddy track appears here in a remixed version featuring a new verse by the Notorious B.I.G. and a few other new -- and surprisingly welcome -- modifications. Second of all, the soundtrack's lead-off track, Trina's "Told Y'All," very well may be the album's highlight, one of the best tracks to come out of the Florida-based Trick Daddy/Trina camp, on a par with "Da Baddest Bitch," "Nann Nigga," and "Take It to da House." Other songs by Petey Pablo and Mystic are also worth checking out. ~ Jason Birchmeier | | It's not likely to come as a surprise to anyone that the movie ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS, a film produced, written by, and starring Ice Cube would sport an accompanying soundtrack album full of cutting-edge West Coast hip-hop. Things get off to a salacious start as Trina lets everyone within earshot know how she rolls on the no-nonsense "Told Y'all." Sunshine Anderson's Macy Gray-like soul vocals provide welcome melodic embroidery for Petey Pablo's hard-hitting mission statement "Tha Come Up." Mya brings the dynamic down a bit to deliver the soft and sensual but nevertheless visceral R&B ballad "Cream Cheese." And that only gets us through the first three cuts! Contributions by everyone from Nappy Roots to the O'Jays arrive soon after, fulfilling the promise of ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS as a state-of-the-art collection of contemporary urban sounds. | | It's not likely to come as a surprise to anyone that the movie ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS, a film produced, written by, and starring Ice Cube would sport an accompanying soundtrack album full of cutting-edge West Coast hip-hop.
