| | | THE SCIENCE
Jawbone eliminates real world noise better than any other headset because it is the only headset that can accurately separate speech from ambient noise.
The mobile phone is the prevailing communication tool for business and personal productivity, and people expect to be able to use their phones in all environments without sacrificing audio quality. Jawbone's patented NoiseAssassin™ technology is unique in its ability to separate speech from ambient noise with remarkable precision. Jawbone's NoiseAssassin is able to achieve this while other headsets cannot due to:
Patented VAS:
Jawbone's Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) is able to detect very accurately when the person is talking and capture the frequencies of his or her speech even in the presence of noise.
Advanced DSP Algorithms:
The NoiseAssassin algorithms were developed over a number of years for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
These required powerful noise suppression algorithms for use in the most extreme acoustic noise environments including battlefields and helicopters. The algorithms use Jawbone's two microphones and the VAS to accurately model the noise environment.
Jawbone detects when and how a person is speaking, models the noise, and aggressively eliminates it.
Conventional "noise eliminating" headsets do not have the VAS and can only estimate when speech is occurring with software-based Voice Activation Detection (VAD) systems. For these systems to work, the speech must be significantly louder or spectrally different from the noise. These systems fail in loud environments or in the presence of other people's speech. Furthermore, because they can't accurately identify the speech signals, they distort the speech in the process of attempting to eliminate the noise. The result of this distortion is a significant degradation in intelligibility and quality in order to achieve a perceptual reduction in noise.
THE DESIGN
The New Jawbone is the next step in the integration of best in class noise elimination technology with personal design that is both humanistic and minimal.
"The Jawbone strategy we set-out to follow three years ago has proven that products that live on our face need to be designed differently than typical technology wares; we regard them as personal accessories or even jewelry, and, as such, believe they need to be a complete departure from the gadgetry of the mobile and headset industry."
Yves Behar
Chief Designer and CCO of Aliph
In the tradition of bringing together beauty and science, the new Jawbone is a miracle of miniaturization and 50% smaller than the original award-winning Jawbone. Every effort has been made to contain best in class noise elimination technology in the most unassuming, yet richly detailed product.
No Visible Buttons
The "invisible button" policy at Jawbone accomplishes a clutter-free look. Touch-surface technology allows the user to operate switches by lightly pressing the outside shield.
Premium Materials
Constructed with ultra-smooth medical-grade plastic, the new Jawbone also comes with optional fine leather earloops.
The Experience
Comprised of an outer shield and inner surface, the new Jawbone experience is two-fold. The outer shield, curved and rectilinear to follow the face, is lightly textured in a sound-reflective progressive relief, a three-dimensional texture visually representative of noise abatement surfaces. This unique surface becomes animated as light creates highlights and shadows when worn. The inner surface, the one touching the face and creating contact with the Voice Activity Sensor, is gently curved to be ergonomic and comfortable on the skin.

5 of 5 Jawbone Blue Tooth - Love it Wednesday, April 15, 2009 Karen from Cranbury, NJ
I am really glad that I purchased the jawbone blue tooth. It was recommended to me by several friends. It has 3 different size earplugs in case you want to change the size. Buy.com had the cheapest price and pretty quick delivery. I would definitely order from Buy.com again. Was this review helpful?

It arrived well packaged but it had scratches on it. I contacted the vendor who promptly sent out another, along with a self-addressed pre-paid envelope to return the scratched unit.

5 of 5 With Aliph"s "New" earbuds, this is Wednesday, April 15, 2009 jeff from valencia, ca
i was skeptical to go with the jawbone II when i was looking for a new bluetooth devise, because of all the reviews i had read stating that the fit leaves a lot to improved upon. well obviously i went with it anyways, and i am pleased to say that after a little experimenting...i am satisfied. at first i was disapointed with the level of volume i heard thru the headset (i could barely hear the person on the other end, even with the volume all the way up). this was due to a poor design of the stock "earbuds", they did not do a good job at "chaneling" the sound into my ear canal. i had read some people advising to swap out the stock earbuds with "jabra minigels". so, i went to bestbuy to buy a set. The salesman at bestbuy advised me that Aliph had just released an improved style of earbuds, and he gave me a set. i am happy to say now, that these earbuds work great, feel great, and fit so well that i dont even have to use an earloop!!! 3 of 5 uncomfortable fit Wednesday, January 14, 2009 Derick from Loganville
Buy.com is definitely my favorite place to get discounts on techie stuff. Jawbone 2: works like all blue-tooth, but doesn't sit snug in my ear canal for long. It becomes irritable after a while on your ear, also there is no way to increase the volume ...except thru the phone. Some friends that I called said they could hear my radio playing in the background an even heard me better when I disconnected the unit. Wish it wasn't so expensive, there were better deals for other brands.
Since my callers had no real problem hearing me, It was definitely good for the receiving party as most of the other reviews states. My main gripe is that the ear bud should be more softer and snug. Was this review helpful?

I have had the Jawbone for just over a month and I have tried everything I can imagine to get the device to fit snugly. It falls off of my ear when I turn my head, and the apparati are not adjustable enough to accommodate all users. The device works extremely well when I wear a beanie that holds the earpiece to my face, but that won't fly come summer. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Noise is No Problem Thursday, October 30, 2008 Lynn from Beverly Hills, MI
This is the third bluetooth I purchased this year, there is no need for a fourth. I drive a very noisy glass truck without any sound suppression and I work construction sites. Now, I can hear my callers and they can hear me with very little background noise; which means I can now conduct work while working.
The only issue is that the earpiece gets uncomfortable after a couple of hours and hurts my ear canal, despite the 3 inner ear choices the product comes with. I added a silicone cover from one of my other headsets, but it still hurts after awhile. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 It's the Best There is?? Saturday, October 11, 2008 Steve G from Kansas
All the reviews on the internet said this is the best bluetooth headset on the market. I am not so sure. I have purchased several different types/models/brands trying to find a really good and comfortable headset. The biggest issue with me is trying to get the thing to stay in my ear. I have reformed (bent) the earloops which has helped quite a bit. There are three different sizes of earpieces and none of them really fits my ear.
Sound quality is pretty good. Apparently if the headset is not securely inserted in the ear and against your jawbone, the other end can hear noise, etc.
For me, the jury is still out on the overall quality of this item. Was this review helpful?

I love this thing. As long as you wear it properly it cancels out ALL of the backround noise and people always hear me loud and clear...this thing is also soooo comfortable i don't even realize i'm wearing it!!! It's really the best Bluetooth device I've ever owned!! Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Very difficult to use Thursday, September 04, 2008 hacapito44 from Newport Beach, CA
I just bought the latest Jawbone II. It has been a real disappointment. One would expect to get at least twice the value from something that is 4 times more expensive than most similar products in the market. (1) the "invisible button” is just a cool idea but in practice is a real pain. If you try to adjust the devise’s grip around your ear during a call by lightly grabbing the tiny frame, you will inevitably press the talk/hang-up “invisible” button [part of the frame] and hang up… not nice; (2) if the Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) does not rest against your cheek, the party you are calling will not hear you properly. Well, guess what? Unless the grip on your ear is really stable, if you walk or drive, the tiny Jawbone will bounce and so will the VAS causing intermittent communications; (3) if the Jawbone II was around $30 then I would say it is as valuable as anything else that is being advertised as a “high performance” in the market. The Jawbone 2 is a great headset, but is a bit tricky to get the right earpiece/earloop combination to get the right fit for your ear so that it will work properly. Once you finally get the right fit, it works great. In a very noisy area, you are able to get heard by the other end of the conversation as if there was barely any noise at your location at all. The voice dialing works fairly well. It has the occassional hiccup, but I think that sometimes its due to my not enunciating properly. All in all I rate this as the best headset I've ever used. Great looking device, and a nice concept. Unfortunately the noise assassin feature requires that a small plastic peg stay in constant contact with your face. If you have side burns to your midear, of if the thing doesn't fit right, or if you move around too much, the peg disconnects and your listener hears the volume of your voice decrease and increase. I was also told there was a lot of static, and while I only kept the headset a day, it dropped two calls for no apparent reason. My past motorola, jabra, and logitech devices didn't do that. Way too much money for so little performance. Was this review helpful?
