THE SCIENCE
Jawbone eliminates real world noise better than any other headset because it is the only headset that can accurately separate speech from ambient noise.
The mobile phone is the prevailing communication tool for business and personal productivity, and people expect to be able to use their phones in all environments without sacrificing audio quality. Jawbone's patented NoiseAssassin™ technology is unique in its ability to separate speech from ambient noise with remarkable precision. Jawbone's NoiseAssassin is able to achieve this while other headsets cannot due to:
Patented VAS:
Jawbone's Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) is able to detect very accurately when the person is talking and capture the frequencies of his or her speech even in the presence of noise.
Advanced DSP Algorithms:
The NoiseAssassin algorithms were developed over a number of years for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
These required powerful noise suppression algorithms for use in the most extreme acoustic noise environments including battlefields and helicopters. The algorithms use Jawbone's two microphones and the VAS to accurately model the noise environment.
Jawbone detects when and how a person is speaking, models the noise, and aggressively eliminates it.
Conventional "noise eliminating" headsets do not have the VAS and can only estimate when speech is occurring with software-based Voice Activation Detection (VAD) systems. For these systems to work, the speech must be significantly louder or spectrally different from the noise. These systems fail in loud environments or in the presence of other people's speech. Furthermore, because they can't accurately identify the speech signals, they distort the speech in the process of attempting to eliminate the noise. The result of this distortion is a significant degradation in intelligibility and quality in order to achieve a perceptual reduction in noise.
THE DESIGN
The New Jawbone is the next step in the integration of best in class noise elimination technology with personal design that is both humanistic and minimal.
"The Jawbone strategy we set-out to follow three years ago has proven that products that live on our face need to be designed differently than typical technology wares; we regard them as personal accessories or even jewelry, and, as such, believe they need to be a complete departure from the gadgetry of the mobile and headset industry."
Yves Behar
Chief Designer and CCO of Aliph
In the tradition of bringing together beauty and science, the new Jawbone is a miracle of miniaturization and 50% smaller than the original award-winning Jawbone. Every effort has been made to contain best in class noise elimination technology in the most unassuming, yet richly detailed product.
No Visible Buttons
The "invisible button" policy at Jawbone accomplishes a clutter-free look. Touch-surface technology allows the user to operate switches by lightly pressing the outside shield.
The Experience
Comprised of an outer shield and inner surface, the new Jawbone experience is two-fold. The outer shield, curved and rectilinear to follow the face, is lightly textured in a sound-reflective progressive relief, a three-dimensional texture visually representative of noise abatement surfaces. This unique surface becomes animated as light creates highlights and shadows when worn. The inner surface, the one touching the face and creating contact with the Voice Activity Sensor, is gently curved to be ergonomic and comfortable on the skin.

5 of 5 Well worth the money 8/28/2010
Doublela from Gallatin, TN
I bought the Jawbone for my wife a couple of weeks ago. The unit arrived promptly and with all the included earpieces and ear loops. It works well. My wife had tried other units and was not satisfied. With the Jawbone she can both hear and be heard very clearly. I don't know if she has tried the unit in a windy situation yet, but it is working as promised so far.

3.7 of 5 why are there no buttons 3/6/2010
Sky Tripp from Baltimore, md
I would say to jawbone people if it aint broke don't mess around with it there are to "hidden" buttons, they are not hidden the are under the outer membrain so u have to do the settings by touch that confused me a lot and I butt dialed and hung up on a lot of people at first. the reason I rated it so high is it just sounds sooooo good. both to the caller and to the one with the blue tooth.

4.3 of 5 Great headset once you get used to it 5/24/2009
Brian from Cinnaminson, NJ
The sound quality is by far the best I've heard short of a wired headset (remember the 90's?) The only complaint I would have is the "hidden" buttons take some getting used to. Took me a few days before I would stop haning up on people by mistake while putting the headset into my ear. But once you get past that, it's small, lightweight, and seems to last pretty long. And shipping from buy.com was excellent, super fast.

4.7 of 5 Best headset I've used yet 5/23/2009
from Fair Lawn, New Jersey
Order from Buy.com, and it was shipped promptly. This is the best headset I've used yet. I travel frequently, and for once the others on the teleconferences don't hear the sounds from my car. In fact, not only don't they hear the large trucks outside, but even with the window down in my car, they hear no other sound but me. Absolutely amazing!
One thing to note is that direct wind on the headpiece is not well damped. There will be a static sound if you walk around on a windy day. But, I've never found a headset that worked in the wind anyway.

4.7 of 5 Works well. 4/28/2009

Fits nicely in the ear. Sound quality is good for bluetooth. Took a little time syncing it up, but wasn't all that difficult. Overall a good buy.

4.7 of 5 Great Product, Awesome Price 4/26/2009
from Frisco, TX
The jawbone2 is a great product. I have used other, lower priced bluetooth headsets, but have always been disappointed with the sound quality. I decided to take a chance on the jawbone2 and I have not been disappoint. The sound quality is exceptional! It is the total package with good looks, excellent performance, and through buy.com an awesome price.

5 of 5 Jawbone 2 4/19/2009
Sandi from Woodbridge, Virginia
Another excellent purchase from buy.com. Jawbone 2 works great. I also highly recommend going to the Jawbone web site and ordering the Free New Fit Earbud (comes in 3 sizes - you pay shipping) which allows you to wear your bluetooth without the ear clip.

3.7 of 5 Good sound, right fit is tricky, button too easy t 4/18/2009
from San Antonio, TX
The price was great so I bought this. The sound is great, but as other reviewers have noted, getting it to fit just right so the sensor rests against my cheekbone was a little tricky. The biggest gripe I have is that the on/off switch is too easy to push. Why using while wearing it's great, but when I put it into my pants pocket and not using, it often turns on accidentally and I can't hear my phone ring since the bluetooth is on. Maybe a belt-clip case would be nice.

4.3 of 5 Best bluetooth I've had with only minor drawbacks 4/18/2009
Donnell from Dallas, Tx
This is my 5th bluetooth and by far the best (with the 2nd best being the Jawbone 1). I gave up on the Dragon Callpod after just 3 weeks of using it and got this one...have been perfectly satisfied. It fits my ear better than all other bluetooths and it fits snug most times which I've always had a problem with. People say the sound quality is great and it takes almost no time to charge. Pairs great with my 6 yr old phone (yes, 6 yrs old...a new phone is next). The only thing I don't like is trying to adjust the volume can sometimes loosen the device from my ear. When I try to get it back in place I hit the disconnect button and hang up the call. Just a minor issue at times and doesn't happen that often. Great buy, fast shipping, cheaper than any other place I've seen them.

5 of 5 Works well 4/16/2009
Mia from Creedmoor, NC
I've been in dire need of a new headset for a long time, and REALLY wanted the Jawbone 2, but the price was way over my budget, so when Buy.com offered it at such a deep discount, I jumped on it. It works great! My only frustration was that when I first got it, the fact that the buttons are 'hidden' was not clear, so I fumbled with it a little.
This is a great earpiece, although I don't think it would be worth the regular price, so don't pay full price for this one.

4 of 5 the gf is happy... 4/16/2009
mike from CT
I've never been one to spend more than $20 on a bluetooth but I took the plunge because my girlfriend constantly complained that she couldn't hear me, everyone else could hear me fine of course. I'm happy to report that the jawbone passes the girlfriend test, the sound quality is good on her end and loud enough. My only complaints are that the jawbone seems to be very treble heavy and zero bass, it's alittle annoying but it's minor. I'd like it to be slightly louder also but again not enough to impact the overall performance. The invisible buttons take some getting use to so just be patient.

4 of 5 How did I make it without it? 4/15/2009
from Atlanta, GA
I love this bluetooth. I had the previous model and it was a huge bar smacked on the side of your face. However, the upgraded version doesn't only look better but it is far easier to use. I had trouble getting it to sync. After I got it to work, it was well worth every bit of what I paid.

4 of 5 Best bluetooth I have used 4/15/2009
from Chatsworth, CA
Pairing was easy. The best sound quailty of all the bluetooth headsets I've used. Buttons are a little hard to use and the ear piece doesn't fit that great.

4.7 of 5 Stylish and a good buy 4/15/2009
Cary from Bergen County, NJ
I've had a Motorola and a Plantronics blue tooth earpiece, but this one by far exceeds them. The pairing is quite simple, the noise assassin works fantastic. Getting the earpiece to stay in my ear was a problem until I went onto the Aliph.com website and ordered the free "improved ear bud for the Jawbone 2 which alleviated the problem of the earpiece falling out and with the new ear bud, you didn't need to mess with bending the ear loop to fit or even use it! The person at the other end hears my conversation seamlessly, though I find that the volume is a bit tinny and could be louder. All in all, for the $65 price I got on Buy.com, it was quite a bargain. I wanted one for a long time, but was not willing to go for the $130 MSRP. It is quite stylish, lightweight and very unnoticeable...

Awesome price! Superfast delivery! Not sure if it's me or the loop but I've always had problems with the Jawbone staying tightly in place, but overall, very, very impressed!

2.7 of 5 not that great for sound 4/4/2009

The device is stylish, small and comfortable. However, I don't know if its my G1 phone or the bluetooth itself, but everybody complains they can barely hear me, even after I ensure all settings are good.

5 of 5 Awesome 4/4/2009
Shawn from La Vergne, TN
I drive a very loud tractor trailer and I have never found a bluetooth that people could hear me talking without a massive amount of wind noise and background noise. This one works great the noise assasin is on by default when you answer a call and it is crystal clear.

5 of 5 Now that I have the correct Earpiece 3/30/2009
Chris from Laurel, MD
As received: Pros - Small, unobtrusive, lightweight, good looking. Cons - irritated my ear using every combination of the provided ear hooks and ear buds and slid away from nestling on my cheek resulting in bad connections and understandable complaints. BUT...with the $2.98 set of ear buds the thing works great. I've removed the over the ear hook and just shove the updated ear piece in. As I'm not used to, nor maybe never will be, something in the ear, it does get a little "earittating" but simple to remove. Still could use a more tailored fit, but very good.
Bottom line is if these are your problems, go to http://us.jawbone.com/store/products.aspx and order the "THE NEW JAWBONE NEW FIT EARBUD"

5 of 5 THE BEST!!!! 3/14/2009
from Dover, DE
Short and sweet, this is the best bluetooth you can buy. To fit your ear you have to adjust the band that goes around your ear. A little twist, the right size ear piece and not slip, good volume and clear on both ends.

4.3 of 5 Good Product at a Better Price Point 2/9/2009
Tony from Arlington, TX
Headset pretty much works as advertised. The sound is clear and understandable and the custom fit pieces make this better than the 'one size fits all' headsets out there, in my opinion.
The Noise Assassin only works when the VAS (voice activated sensor) is in use. This means if you’re in the wind or vehicle A/C and NOT talking…all the other person hears is the wind loudly, until you actually say something, then the background noise is dropped and all the caller hears is your voice.
It would have been nice if the Noise Assassin wasn’t dependant on the VAS, but overall, at the sale price, it was too hard for me to pass up, and I’m happy with it.

5 of 5 I love this headset! 2/6/2009
from Detriot, MI
I'm extremely pleased with this headset. It is a sleek design and very light weight. The sound quality is excellent. I was impressed with the variety of ear pieces that came with it. Usually, earpieces do not fit very well but this one had a small enough piece that fit my ear perfectly. The functions of the device (turning on & off, volume control, etc) are easy and the sounds attached to each function allow you to know if you hit the correct command. An example is turning on/off the noise assassin function. Overall, I really like this device and would highly recommend it to all.

5 of 5 Jawbone 1/31/2009

It's much smaller than my other one, so it's not as noticeable. People I talk to say I sound clear and they don't hear noises in the background. I'm glad I bought it.

4.3 of 5 Best Bluetooth 1/26/2009
Laurie from Los Alamitos, CA
I have tried a lot of other earpieces and this one is definitely the best. It is exceptional in noisy environments like in your car or at a restaurant. This model is also an improvement over the first. Smaller, very lightweight, better fit and improved comfort. I use it every day and have been very happy.

5 of 5 The perfect bluetooth earpiece 1/25/2009
Darryl Dobin from Denville, NJ
Based on ratings and as a result of being ranked #1 in several reviews, I shopped for quite a while for the Jawbone. Went to Best Buy, but didn't think I needed to pay the $129 retail price. Shopped online, and found a great deal at Buy.com - $79! I really love the easy ability to tailor the earpiece with both the earbud and earloop, and found the perfect combo for my ear in a few minutes. Then connected to my phone, PC and again, just took a few minutes. Up and running in less than 10 minutes after the charge - doesn't get much better! Talk time and time between recharges seems to be exactly as advertised. Overall, totally pleased with the decision based on price and functionality. Can't recommend the Jawbone strongly enough.

1.3 of 5 I expected much better 1/25/2009
Paul from Sterling, IL
I ordered two of the Jawbone II's based on online review and a recommendation in Inc. 500. The packaging is real chic, but it would be nice if the company supplied some detailed instructions rather than "this is simple." Once I charged the ear piece and sync'd it with my phone, I tried some calls. The sound / voice quality was very tinny and echoed. To make sure it wasn't me or something local, I retried my old (free with my phone) earpiece and called the same people. All said the old ear piece was far better for sound quality. So, if you want to look good and have a cool box, buy this. If you want to be able to hear and talk, I would NOT recommend that you buy this.

1.7 of 5 Think Twice 1/24/2009
Milt from Miami, FL
I have been using an older Motorola BT headset and wanted to add some wind noise protection. I was very excited when it showed up this morning and quickly charged it up and easily paired it with my Blackberry.
I then swapped a few pieces around to get the perfect fit and wala - I was up and running.
The first call was to my voicemail. I could hardly hear it. Lots of treble with absolutely no mid range or base. The next call was to my friend. He said it was very clear with the Noise assassin turned off but when turned on he had difficulty in hearing me. As well I couldn't hear him.
It is going back first thing in the AM

5 of 5 Good Performance and Thoughtful Design 1/19/2009
from San Francisco, CA
I was attracted to the Jawbone II product based upon its elegant industrial design and promise of military-grade noise cancelling technology. I have been seeking a bluetooth headset to use when traveling and this product has met my expectations. The instructions included with the product packaging were clear and enabled me to use immediately with minimal fuss. I am disappointed that the earloops sent with my product included 2 XL and 2 M and no L or S; however, the XL and the large earbud fit me fine. People can still hear me even when I am underground with the subway trains chugging by right next to me.

3 of 5 could be better made 1/19/2009

The assassin button is a problem. The bluetooth connection wasn't working well with my phone, I had to put my phone in my chest pocket for better clarity. Nice looking headset fits nicely too but that button really put a damper on my decision.

4.7 of 5 Awesome Bluetooth Device... 1/17/2009
Soupy from Weston, FL
This is by far the best Bluetooth device that I have ever owned, and I have tried a lot of them. It is incredible to be driving down the highway in my 78 Trans Am, with the T-Tops off, the windows down and still be able to carry on a phone conversation. Highly recommended.

4.7 of 5 It works great with a good price 1/17/2009
IT guy from LA
Overall, it's a very nice product. I give it a 4 on performance because of the volume is a tad lower than I would like, even at the loudest, but it is still good. And you also have to cycle through the volume instead of increasing/decreasing.
Otherwise, this is a great product, and the size is perfect.

3.7 of 5 Takes a special ear to fit 1/4/2009
from Boonville MO
I purchased mine sometime ago, and have barely used it due to it not fitting correctly on my ear - keeps wanting to fall off. This is a common complaint.
The original Jawbone has great performance, just was kind of bulky. I purchased the "II" as it is much smaller.
There is supposedly a fix for this, if you purchase a custom fit ear piece from Avery Sound. I just have done yet done it.
