5 of 5 "Aliens" Movie Review from MoviePulse.ne Saturday, September 29, 2007 Mike Massie, www.MoviePulse.net from Tempe, AZ
Perhaps the greatest archetype of science fiction, action and horror faultlessly blended together in one film, James Cameron’s Aliens seamlessly expands upon the original Ridley Scott masterpiece. Thrilling ambushes, ruthless predatory battles, and alien mire galore derive some of the most exciting and nerve-wracking scenes ever put to celluloid. While few sequels are ever as good as the original, the memorable, quotable and nightmare-inducing Aliens easily rivals its predecessor and for some, surpasses it.
Miraculously being discovered alive after traveling in hypersleep for 57 years on her jettisoned escape pod, Lt. Ellen Ripley is recruited to advise a squadron of marines on how to handle the alien species she fought in the first film. The same planet that originally hosted the devilish xenomorphs has since become a terraforming colony and all communications with the uninformed families is abruptly cut off. Ripley reluctantly agrees to accompany the c*cky marines in what is to become a harrowing rescue and escape from the most frightening monsters in cinema.
While Alien focused mainly on creepiness, scares, and the dread of being hunted down one by one, Aliens introduces the hardened Colonial Marines who engage in acid-spurting firefights with merciless waves of the biomechanical creatures. Suspense is redefined through the use of carefully coordinated scenes involving a motion tracker with an ominous beep, and a little girl who steals Ripley’s heart and attention. This Academy Award winning film proves that showing less is truly more; blackened locales allow the aliens to camouflage themselves on the slimy walls and ribbed ceilings. A sinister medical lab and shadowy sublevels are but a few of the morbid sets serving as host to the labyrinthine and claustrophobic hive. Oozing walls, acidic blood, and gushing fluids flood these sets, but non-gratuitously and with foreboding appropriateness. Although there are scenes of violence and gore, they too are expertly used for suspense and shock. Meticulous attention to details is impressively used throughout the film, from intricately modeled ships, to personalized armor on each of the marines, adding to the sense that each character has a back-story within the Alien universe.
Spanning over two decades, the Alien franchise is one of the most successful and lucrative of all time. With four sequels including a crossover into the world of Predators, graphic novels, books, video games and more, the impact and entertainment value of this notorious deadly species is unequalled. To say that this film is an essential part of every movie-lovers’ repertoire is a gross understatement.

5 of 5 'Aliens,' the best film of the series Monday, March 20, 2000 http://www.geocities.com/carboiii/CINEMACITE.html from Lewisville, Tx
In my opinion, this is the best of all of the
'Alien' films. It's no surprise that it's directed
by James Cameron. He's an exceptional director with vision, and a true feel for what audiences
really respond to. The casting is outstanding,
Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton,
Paul Reiser, etc. make for a complete film
experience. The movie grabs hold of you at the
beginning, and doesn't release you until it's
over. It's a relentless, non-stop, action
blockbuster. If you haven't seen it, go immediately to the video store and rent it. You
won't regret it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Mecha Technology Wednesday, March 08, 2000 Vitamin X coetjen from Dayton, OH
I love this movie and consider my self a devoted fan. I think the movie is outstanding and the amazing technical work that was put in to this is just great. Try and get the Directors Cut(special edition)it is better.I have study the film and read several manuals on the props for this movie it helps to even further the process. If you like movies with mecha style technology you will like this one.The truck, the plane and the weopons are all well designed and look great, the sound is also a plus it puts you in a scared mood. no other movie mixes horror and sci-fi like this movie does! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Anyone can love this Friday, December 31, 1999 Wormy duwormy from Waianae HI
Jim Cameron's masterpiece. Although it is horrific at times, I believe anyone with a healthy heart can enjoy this film. The first installment was good, but this one was great. Cameron took the original premise and made it into one of the greatest movies of all time. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 All I have to say is SWEET. Wednesday, December 29, 1999 Doug Choe from San Diego, CA
This is by far the best James Cameron movie (well, tied with Terminator 1 and 2). The action totally rocked. I cared what happened to the characters, and the aliens just were amazing. The added scenes added more depth to the characters and story. I recommend you get this movie on DVD. Video just isn't doing it justice. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 THE BEST ONE OUT THERE Wednesday, December 08, 1999 Rahul Tikoo from Binghamton, NY
This is definitely the best of the series. Not only do you get an extra 17 minutes of footage but it looks great. Get it NOW! Really entertaining. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Without a doubt the BEST of the series Monday, October 11, 1999 A Viewer from anchorage
I would have to rank this movie as one of best sci-fi movies of all time. I saw this movie when I was pretty young and I slept with the covers over my head for probably a couple of years terrified of those facehuggers after I saw this movie. The added 17 minutes of footage in the DVD version reveals even more about the story and adds even more suspense. Buy it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 An excellent film Saturday, August 14, 1999 Lucas from Portland, Oregon
What's so great about this film -- asides from inspired casting, the tight directing (save for the 'Get away, from her, you b****,' which was not needed), the convincing special effects and the taut, clever script -- is how it immerses you in the 'Alien' universe. You're with the soldiers, you're panicking with them, you're totally stressed and you're scared. You empathize with the people, you want to help, but, more importantly, you want to get the heck out of dodge before those creepy critters get you. It draws you in -- and that's good filmmaking. It's sci-fi, it's horror, it's action -- and it's a classic. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Superior Friday, July 30, 1999 duda from st cloud
Action plus horror has rarely ever been better. This is the best of 'Alien' series though the fourth one comes quite close. Quite different movie from the first one that introduced the whole idea but was more of a suspense drama. This one is fast paced action, one of the best recent sci-fi horrors. 5 of 5 One of the greats Thursday, July 08, 1999 Marc Szeftel from Seattle, Washington
This is one of the best science fiction thrillers ever made. Even after seeing it many times, it still glues you to the edge of your seat. Cameron never made a better film (although he came close with Terminator 2); this is one that should be in every collection. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A BLAST! Tuesday, July 06, 1999 Scott from Mound Minnesota
Alien was one of the best SCI-FI horror movies ever filmed. Normally the sequels to such films are best left in the toilet! Aliens is the first sequel of it's type to match it's maker! Great from the start this movie is fast paced! We see more of the Aliens this time. These Aliens are NASTY! Plenty of enjoyable material on the screen here! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The best in the Alien Series Tuesday, June 29, 1999 A Viewer from Rockville, MD
The fact that this is the only movie in the top 20 out the four in the Alien series says something. The whole set probably made the top 20 because of this awesome 2nd installment. The only other one that comes close is the 1st Alien. #3 and #4 are good coasters. Was this review helpful?
