| Afrodisiac is sensuous, soulful, even a little gritty, an album that showcases Brandy's passionate voice and announces in no uncertain terms that she's all grown up and knows what she wants. The hot first single, "Talk About Our Love," was produced by and features Kanye West.
| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Personnel include: Brandy (vocals); Kanye West, T.I. (vocals); Baby Dubb (various instruments, programming); Glenn S. Jeffrey (guitar); Ervin A. Pope (keyboards); Thaddeus Tribbett (bass guitar). | | Recording information: 2004. | | Personal turmoil has always proved to be a creative elixir for musicians, so it's not surprising that Brandy Norwood would dip into that well for inspiration on her fourth album, AFRODISIAC. In addition to her transformation from a teenage pop/TV star to an international music sensation, the 25-year-old vocalist followed motherhood with a divorce and also stepped away from longtime production partner Rodney Jerkins. In the process, Brandy cast herself in a much sexier and more mature light, which is reflected throughout these 15 songs. | | Brandy's wisest moves were enlisting hip-hop guru Timbaland behind the boards and bringing Kanye West along for the ride as well. The Timbaland-produced songs, particularly the snappy title cut (with its intricately layered vocal tracks) and the slow-rolling funk of "Focus," gurgle with the Virginia-based maestro's trademark staccato beats and rich production style. Chicago native West is equally impressive, dueting with Brandy amid sweet, Gamble & Huff-flavored string arrangements in the autobiographical "Talk about Our Love." With its engaging and expressive tracks, AFRODISIAC proves to be another victory for the old adage about great art emerging from emotional pain. | Producer: Brandy Norwood; Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell; Timbaland; Kanye West; Organized Noize | Musical Guests | | Kanye West | | T.I. |

5 of 5 Progression and maturity go hand-in-hand Tuesday, March 01, 2005 rnbsngr07@yahoo.com from St. Louis, MO
Brandy has always been idolized from her days as an adolescent, but listeners must remember that Ms. Norwood is now a woman. Sultry, seductive, and flat out unbelievable are words that come to mind when describing Brandy's "Afrodisiac". She pours her heart and soul into this album with such tracks as "Who I Am", "Focus", "How I Feel" and my favorite "Should I Go", in which she explores the music industry and her current placing within it. She has stamped her name on the industry with 'Brandy', 'Never Say Never', and 'Full Moon', but If you're looking to enter her personal life, then 'Afrodisiac' is the perfect R&B album to pick up! Afrodisiac is a touching glimpse into the soul of a woman who has experienced and overcome a great deal of turmoil; a lifelike blending of sadness and happiness, softness and edginess.
There was still some of the busyness that detracted from Full Moon, but this album is nevertheless a significant improvement. Brandy this time shows even more conviction and believable emotion.
I'd have liked to hear the vocals more 'unplugged.' While Brandy did do a very good job on vocals, the heavy use of layering tended to take focus away from them. Still, Brandy's got a very sweet, soft voice that makes for some very pretty ballads. That's not to say it's all soft; there are some sassy numbers, too.
Brandy's performance on this album is not only skillful, but also personal, genuine, and beautiful; although I miss the vocal clarity that made Never Say Never my all-time favourite. You will definitely want both in your music collection.

Brandy is back again with an album that is guaranteed to knock your socks off. The album is certified platinum and then some with the genius of such producers as Kanye West and Timbaland. She brings so much heart and soul into this new album. Brandy continues to show how talented and skilled a singer she really is. Brandy pours her heart into such songs as Who I Am and Who Is She 2 U, where she shares her relationship experiences. She even has cuts that are guaranteed to make you want to dance(Sadiddy and turn it up). This album is definitely one that all can relate to and that reaches the inner soul of everyone who has experienced a bad relationship. She even sings about her new found love in Afrodisiac. So she sings about a relationship that went bad, but now she is happy because she can love again. This is definitely an album to add to the Library. Welcome back Brandy, we missed you. 5 of 5 Best album female '04 Friday, July 09, 2004 Corey from Indianapolis In
On this effortless cd of hits Brandy shows us her older side more mature self. This album is the best if 2004 and for Brandy period. Songs like the infectious first single "Talk about our love" and the smooth flavor of "Who is she 2 you", the mellow swagger of "Where you wanna be" show off Brandy's maturity. This is a great selection to any old Brandy fans as well as new first time listeners. GO GET IT. Was this review helpful?
