In a snap an excellent product. I had the Happuge single tuner previously and this one works just as well. Installation was a breeze, the unit comes with all the cables, more than I expected, it comes with a splitter and the coaxials, comes with video cables, just everything and they all appear to be pretty high quality. The only downside was when I tried to start watching tv I got no output and I did some research and found that I needed an MPEG encoder. Was very strange since the Happuge was working fine. I am not sure if it was because I had the Happuge first and removed it. I did some research on the web and found that by installing PowerDVD software it would take care of the issue and low and behold it did. So, just some information in case someone faces the same issue. All in all though very pleased with the unit, looks great, performs great, couldn't be happier. Was this review helpful?

When I heard that NBC would be moving 30 Rock up against "Grey's Anatomy" on Thursday nights, I realized that I needed a second TV tuner for my media PC (I'm running Snapstream media's BeyondTV 3.7 on a Windows XP (not Windows Media Center) box in my living room). The Adaptec fit the bill perfectly, as I've used up all the available expansion slots in my computer.
The device records with great quality (better than the hardware-encoding diamond multimedia PCI tuner I was using before), and my Athlon XP 2700 machine doesn't have any problem recording 2 shows simultaneously.
I had a bit of a challenge installing the machine (in Adaptec's defense, they say it is only compatible with Windows Media Center Edition software, and I'm running plain-vanilla XP), but after getting a "New hardware not Installed" message, I rebooted and Snapstream detected the tuners anyway.
Overall, the recording quality is great, CPU load is low, and I"m very happy. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best MCE accessory Wednesday, November 08, 2006 Jerry from Redmond, WA
I have 3 hand-built MCE machines, with dual internal tuners, but they were way too complicated to install. This Adaptec Tuner is great, it was easy to install, has a ton of free cables (for every possible combination), and even supports Windows Vista out of the box (without having to download drivers). Highly recommended! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Wednesday, November 01, 2006 A Customer from Williamstown, VT
This is a great product. It installed in minutes and records two TV programs at once without any trouble. Works great on Media Center Edition 2005 and with Media Center Extender. I would definitly buy this product again. I have found nothing wrong with it at all so far. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Overall Great Product Tuesday, October 31, 2006 jeff from WI from Kewaunee, WI
Added this to an HP pc from circuit city running xp media center. The install went flawlessly and was running in less than 5 minutes. The picture quality is good and requires a little sharpening but otherwise very clear and clean. All cables, splitters, connectors were in the box. Media Center TV guide makes your pc work like a tivo. The recorded TV shows can be played outside of media center, and can be burned to DVD either through MC or other third party app. The remote only controls the media center items not the pc. I had a kworld usb tuner and this one works much better and integrates more seemlessly. You can only choose 1 source (antenna, cable, satellite) even though there are 2 tuners. Media center only allow one guide as a result. Apparently Beyond tv works with this tuner and then you can use multiple sources and multiple guides, so you can record from the antenna and cable. It uses an IR blaster to emulate your remote to change channels on your Satellite reciever. So if a channel is recording you may not be able change channels to another channel while in this mode, only one video feed, unless you have to differet satellite recievers. You can not record from the FM but you can time shift it if needed. But overall I am very happy with this unit, and how it works with media center. Most of the big names sell this unit including HP, gateway, dell. Highly recommended Was this review helpful?

I have this same PVR, re-branded by HP and bundled with the ZD8000 series notebook computers. It works quite well with Windows Media Center. I would like a smaller form factor, but, this unit does offer a lot of functionality, you can see that by reading the specifications. No brainer operation, actually. The included remote control is nice, too. Not sure if it's a shortcoming of the remote, or the interface to WinXP:MCE, but, I would like to be able to shut down the Media Center completely sometimes from the remote control itself. So, due to the size of the unit and the inability to actually close down the media center from the remote control, I give it an overal satisfaction of 4 - which are really nit-picky reasons. It's a very nice piece of hardware. Was this review helpful?
