FEATURES- MegaPlug 200 Mbps Ethernet Adapter Twin-pack
Just when you thought moving big files from one device to another
around your world would be a complicated and time-consuming task,
Actiontec comes to your rescue. With the new MegaPlug AV 200 Mbps
Ethernet Adapter, you can expand your current home network (using
your already-installed power lines) and experience blinding
transfer speeds, all at the same time! Now, you can transfer
movies, or multiple songs, or any other large files, from one
networked device to another, in minutes instead of hours, or
seconds instead of minutes.
The first thing you'll notice about the MegaPlug AV Adapter is its
speed. Hundreds of photos transfer from the computer in the den to
the computer in the living room in a flash. A muliti-gigabit movie
file streams effortlessly from the kitchen to the bedroom.
The MegaPlug AV Adapter also features 128-bit AES, which is a new
type of security and the first available to the general public
that's been approved by the U. S. government for classified, top-
secret documents. AES security is so secure, no computer that
exists today that can break its code. What this means, essentially,
is that you can make all your files top-secret, for your eyes only,
and never worry about outsiders snooping around your personal
business.

4 of 5Great solution Friday, January 09, 2009 A Customer from Baltimore, MD
Ordered the product after doing some reseach; the process was easy to order and delivery was quick. The install was simple and the product worked as advertised. This is a great solution allowing one to network computers without having to do any wiring.

5 of 5Easy setup Saturday, December 13, 2008 PM from Virginia
We needed Ethernet in a residential basement where it was not possible to run a standard Ethernet drop. Wireless was too unreliable. This device works well. A few notes: the device is faster than wireless, but not as fast as a wired Ethernet cable; also, it did not work when plugged into surge protectors. Overall, we were very pleased with the ease of setup and performance and will definitely be using these in other situations where a direct wired connection is not possible.

4 of 5Nice units Tuesday, November 18, 2008 Superman from Minneapolis, MN
I still need to hook up my Tivo and xbox to these devices, but so far they work well. It took no time at all to plug them in and get a high-speed network going...it was literally a matter of plugging it in. I have reached 9 Mbps download from the outside world, which is all I should have according to my cable provider. I don't know the speed of the internal network. I am so pleased that I'm in the process of adding another two units to the network so I can expand it.
The biggest drawback is that the units are HUGE. They stand a good chance of taking up the entire outlet. I have not yet tried to use these things with extension cords, though I suppose that should work all right.

5 of 5EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE - EASY TO USE Monday, October 06, 2008 A Customer from San Jose, CA
This product works just as advertised. I've got several of these connecting my DirecTV DVR (HR20), my TiVO, Slingbox, 2 kids PCs, and one Network survaillance camera. Out of the box it was as simple as conneting one unit to my network router and into the power outlet. I than connected all my DVR first. Once I saw haw well this unit worked, I added several more (see above).
I also called the tech support with a techie question. I was very pleased with how quickly they took my call, and how quickly they were able to answer my question.
I read one of the reviews where someone gave this product a "1" rating and went back and looked at the box. The box states that it will co-exist, not WORK WITH older powerline technology. Anyhow, who would want the old technology when you can get these units at such a good price.

5 of 5Quick, Easy, and Worked as Advertised Sunday, June 22, 2008 A Customer from Shorewood, MN
I purchased this to connect our kids' XBox 360 to our broadband home network. Previously, we were using a wifi connection, but the kids were always complaining about slow connection speeds and dropped connections to our home network. This item did the trick. No more complaining kids. It was easy to set up...and worked perfectly from the beginning.
The only critique is that the plug size is large which limits the other types of plugs that you can use in a two plug outlet.

1 of 5Let me explain the issue here... Wednesday, January 09, 2008 Rich from Bay City, Mi
Here's the situation. These are a great product and work straight from the box with great results if you are only using like devices (200 Mbps). However my issue is that they claim to be compatible with the 85 Mbps devices also. This is not true! At least at the time I write this it isn't. I spent a couple of hours trying to figure out why I could not get 2 working 200 devices to interact with 2 working 85 devices. After exhausting all logical tests, I involved Actiontec's technical support (good group to work with). With them we went through all of the tests I had performed as their understanding also was that they should be compatible. Eventually they setup a test in their own lab and, to their dismay, confirmed my situation. Actiontec also could not get the different devices to work together! Maybe there are some model differences that work which lead to the claim these are compatible, but personally I wouldn't count on it at this point.
In short if you try to mix devices you may be asking for trouble - as I have found. In my case I like the technology a lot and so have dropped all of my devices back to the 85 Mbps speed which is still a fairly good speed and much more economical.

4 of 5Plug and go Monday, December 03, 2007 Gideon7 from Minneapolis, MN
It is pretty much idiot proof - just plug in. The boxes are bulky enough that you might need a rat-tail extender plug or an octopus plug to avoid obstructing the 2nd wall outlet. The CD software is only needed if you want to change the AES encryption key.

I consistently get only about 12mbs. It could be that our house wiring is noisy for some reason (the path crosses two circuit breakers).
Still it is plenty fast for Internet surfing over DSL.
