I bought this unit to replace the DSL modem/router (Actiontec GT701-WG) that I rented from Qwest. The rented unit had problems with drop-connection and channel-switching that I had to unplug the modem once a week. This new Actiontec modem is great. I haven't had any problem at all in 4 weeks. The installation was a breeze, even simpler than the one from Qwest. The wireless connection is unexpectedly better than my old ones. I could never stay connected using wireless downstair with all my previous routers. This one works! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Actiontec GT704WG Wireless DSL Gateway Monday, March 30, 2009 A Customer from Milwaukee WI
I used this to replace the speedstream modem that came with my yahoo DSL service and I actually think that is giving me faster speeds and better connectivity. Not to mntion the added benefit of wireless connection for my Wii and DS. Great buy and at a great price! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Verizon DSL Wednesday, January 21, 2009 Joel from Kalamazoo MI
Bought this router/DSL Modem to replace the one that I had gotten from Verizon way back when I first got DSL service ( Westell versalink 327W ). I had problems with dropped connection / locking of the unit which seems to be a problem with the 327W. The Actiontec gt724wgr has been a really great replacement. I wasn't simply plug and play for me as I had to involve tech support from India and it turns out the modem/router would not auto configure for my service. I had to place a call to Verizon to confirm settings after-which the tech support from Actiontec called me back (no kidding...they called me) to finish setting up the unit. Took the better part of an afternoon to set up BUT once working the unit has performed flawlessly. GREAT range and hasn't dropped the connection since I turned it on well over a month ago. Actiontech support, which I assume is in India by the accent, was very helpful and spoke relatively good english. All in all an OK experience when dealing with tech support from another country. By the way, when I called Verizon they told me that they did not support this preticular Actiontech product and advised me to send it back and buy a router/modem from them as they could not guarantee it would work. So after all that..... I would recommend this product for those with Verizon DSL and the only bad thing I have to say about it is that it would not auto setup (for me) as advertised.
