5 of 5 Nice Compact drive, w/3 year warrantee Saturday, December 06, 2008 Charlie from Attleboro, MA
I am pleased with the drive but as you can see by the title, but I will list my dissatisfactions here.
The drive runs on the warm side, I would have liked to have seen a fan, but then it would not fit in the compact package.
The fancy light on the front is a little to much for me, a single LED would have been fine, this is a little distracting.
I am questioning the performance of the drive but maybe the problem is because I am doing very large backups to it and maybe I am not accustom to moving so much data.
I am impressed that after having used the drive for a few weeks I haven't used 10% of the drive yet, give me a little more time and I will be waiting for their 2 TB model comming in the future, probably. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Conveniance Wednesday, December 03, 2008 Law from Boston, MA
I needed a external hard drive and i found the Acomdata 1TB pureDrive for only $128! (including shipping). Once I saw it I bought it and it arrived today. I ordered it 3 days ago after business hours. The drive is quite and starts of with 931 GB of free space. The cords it comes with are short, but manageable. Also it is heavier then I expected but with its size it will be easy to store it anywhere. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very small Friday, November 07, 2008 Jay from New Haven, CT
the drive works great and it is very small. I have a 500gb Maxtor thats about 2-3 times bigger and this is tiny. Works great. no problems. Run it as ESATA for the fastest throughput. very attractive and I really like the big blue light. I dont like to leave my drives on overnight and you cant miss this beacon! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Drive! Tuesday, September 23, 2008 A Customer from Orlando, Florida
Great drive, worked well right out of the box. It's small, and doesn't make much noise. I would recommend this drive, even though it's not firewire.... Was this review helpful?

We have an HR21 HD DVR for our Direct TV system. We read that the Acomdata 1TB Pure drive would work to extend our storage space. We unplugged the power cord from the HR 21, plugged the SIIG eSATA to eSATA cable to the HR21 and the 1TB drive, turned on the 1 TB drive, repowered the HD DVR, and hit the reset button on the HR21. That is it, sweet and simple. We did lose all of our "to do" list, but we had read that would happen. No big deal. We recorded 4 full length HD movies from the dish and still had 97% drive space available. We love it. No noise, very small, sharp looking. One of the best investments we have ever made. Learned how to hook it up from a customer review like this one, however they did not mention that we needed the eSATA to eSATA so the first cable we tried (eSATA to SATA) did not work. 5 of 5 Excellent storage for the price Saturday, June 07, 2008 A Customer from Chandler, AZ
I never had harddrives more than 80gig and I badly needed a storage to store all my photos and home videos. Did some research and buy.com has the best price on this drive. The drive came in exact time and worked like a charm out of the box. I did format it for NTFS and it took almost 6 hours (not quick formatting). Since then, it works so quiet next to my notebook and looks so cute. It's of the size of 3 packs of cards placed next to each other. That small. I love it.

I was a bit worried when I plugged the drive into my tower and XP didn't see it. But it was a motherboard controller that had to be updated, not the drive's problem.
In case you are wondering, the drive inside is a Western Digital.
Did some benchmarking an getting double or more than USB2.0 read throughput times. 33.8mb/sec off an acomdata USB2.0 and 66.3mb/sec off of the e-sata interface.
I have had a long history of acomdata drives and enclosures and never once had any issues, IMO a brand you can buy with confidence. Was this review helpful?

I've been using one of these for over 3 months now and it works perfectly. I just bought another and it is equally good. These drives run cool, are nearly silent, and have an attractive, well-designed, passively cooled enclosure.
Since the enclosure is passively cooled, you have to stand it up vertically in the provided base and keep some space around it so that air can circulate. Some other reviewers complained of heat problems. If you lay the drive flat on a surface that is not a good heat conductor (i.e. a wooden table, etc.), then it will get hot because the small amount of heat it generates has nowhere to go.
Stand the drive up vertically in the provided base! Also, don't forget to reformat as NTFS if you intend to store files larger than 4GiB. A ""quick format"" only takes a few seconds. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 DVR External Drive Wednesday, April 16, 2008 A Customer from San Diego, CA
I've been using this as a external hard drive for the cable company's high definition DVR. It has been perfect since day one. No notable high definition playback issues. First it's so amazingly quiet in its enclosure. When the DVR is off, the drive actually cools down to a barely-luke-warm-state. That's where the "green" part kicks in. It spins down to 5400RPM when not being used heavily, not a constant 7200 RPM. When the DVR is doing double-duty recording and playing back, it gets warmer but not hot to the touch. I can't tell if the case is plastic or metal but it seems to work whatever it is.
NEGATIVES: no eSATA cable and not a SATA 3.0 interface. All DVR's like Tivo, Scientific Atlanta, and Motorola are SATA 1.5 so it doesn't matter in this case. Was this review helpful?

This is my second 1TB HDD I have, the overall quality of this drive is fabulous. It's made of sturdy aluminum and works whisper quiet. The eSata connection works with no problem. The drive inside is suppose to be very good too because I heard it's made by Western Digital. The best thing I like is the inication lights, looks sparking when you sit in a dark room. The only downside of this product is it's 1.5GB/S transfer speed limit. But it shouldn't be a problem because our modern technology can't reach that fast anyway. Was this review helpful?

Same as the previous reviewer, I bought this for the bare drive. The drive itself is a Western Digital Green drive. I lost faith in WD a few years ago but have been running one of their SATA drives for a while now so I took a change on another. I am pleased so far. The external case that it came in is quite impressive also. Nice indicator and quality. FYI - The case is assembled in the USA. The drive is NOT made in China. Was this review helpful?

I needed an external USB drive to expand my home-built windows home server system I built from and old slim-line Dell optiplex. I wanted to go big and buy a 1TB drive but price held me back and I wanted a single drive that was silent. Well this drive is actually less expensive than you can often find the BARE hard drive alone. It is tiny, has no fan, works flawlessly and is absolutely silent but still runs cool. I think this is a superior product and am really quite pleased with it. Also, it actually has a pretty cool light show when running with a nifty light bar: blue while idle red while writing, and a really cool purple when it is doing mixed read/write.
