The computer arrived by FedEx five days after placing the order using the free shipping option. It was shipped in a well protected package.
XP-Pro experienced two hangs during install but continued to completion after reboots. Windows XP PRO SP-2 needed about 40 updates to get current which did not take long since most were small. The included browser is IE6 ( I installed Firefox :).
The 160GB SATA hard drive is factory partitioned into two equal drives, C and D. No operating system, program, or recovery disks are included but there is an Acer eRecovery Management program on the hard drive. With the program it is easy to create user backups which are stored on the D drive. Four other program options are available to create backups on CD/DVD 1. Burn a backup disk using factory default. 2. Burn a backup using user's backup. 3. Copy current system configuration to disk. 4.Burn an application backup disk.
There are two free SATA female power connectors, a large four pin female (power for non SATA drives,etc.), and a small four pin female (floppy power). There are two SATA connections available on the motherboard (4 total-1 currently used by the existing SATA drive and the other by the DVD). A connection is provided on the motherboard labeled PIDE for installing additional non-SATA drives and also a connector for a floppy drive ribbon cable. No ribbon cables are included. Connected my extra ATA/EIDE hard drive using my ribbon cable and the large spare four pin power connector inside the case. Additional drives/hardware can be installed in the spare bays without the use of mounting screws as units are held in place with one side sliding locking clips. The side panel removes easily and there is ample room inside the case to install additional drives, memory, or cards.
