5 of 5 Can't go wrong with this little guy! Thursday, April 09, 2009
Brian Newhouse from Austintown, Ohio

What a bargain this is! I bought mine back in January at 1am on a tuesday morning with free shipping that was offered then, and recieved it wednesday afternoon! I have Vista Home installed on mine, because I needed a more familiar OS that I can easily customize to my needs (college/ work), and not that I didn't quite care for that particular version of linux - the version of linux supplied is quite adequate and amazing for even a basic/general user! Great reliable product! Small keyboard, but got the hang of it after the first few papers I had to write!

5 of 5 Great Introduction to Linux Wednesday, March 04, 2009
John from Portland, OR
The Linux version boots quickly and it is a nice lightweight machine for travel, email, web, and general office tasks. The learning curve was a bit steep since I've have never used Linux before. However, it was easy to find blogs and discussion groups online with clear instructions on installing Skype, updating software, and tweaking the computer to suit one's needs.

5 of 5 Super for what it is. Saturday, February 14, 2009
John from Hotchkiss, CO
I bought my Acer Aspire One with Linux to take to the hospital with me. It is super. It only ways a little over 2 pounds, has wifi built in and is quick. The Linux version has all of the tools I need to continue my work without having to have my family lug around my Macbook Pro. Great little computer. I just wish it had built in bluetooth but not a huge deal.

5 of 5 Awesome little machine! Tuesday, February 10, 2009
Adam Martin from Tacoma, WA
Wow! What can I say? At first I was a bit skeptical about a 9" laptop but this thing has really grown on me. Linux Linpus Lite is very easy to navigate for any user. If you are hard pressed to have Windows you can always put XP Home on the machine either with Linux (dual booting) or on it's own. I myself am about to partition the drive and install Windows 7 Beta and upgrade the ram to its max of 1.5GB. Snagged this for $250 when it was on sale! Yay for promo codes!

5 of 5 Beautiful little thing Monday, February 09, 2009
Marcelo from Cumming, GA
I bought it for my sister (computer illiterate). She used it without troubles. The Linpus desktop (based on Fedora 8) makes it really easy to operate. However, the software included is outdated (firefox 2.x, openoffice 2.4, etc) and is really hard to update (I had to do a couple of hacks). Acer doesn't want you to change anything, and doesn't provide you with the appropriate updates. If it was for me, I would probably install Ubuntu nettop remix or other distro with more freedom.

5 of 5 Excellent!!! Tuesday, February 03, 2009
A Customer from Bronx, NY
Great machine. I got the Linux one and then reloaded it with XP/Ubuntu and all the Acer drivers without any issues. (use an external USB DVD drive or bootable XP USB flash bin.)

5 of 5 Great sub-notebook for your bucks! Tuesday, February 03, 2009
MadRussian from Minneapolis, MN
I got the 160Gb HDD version with Linux version installed. I easily changed the OS to Windows XP and then to Windows 7.0 Beta to test this OS. There is a nice forum of users (search Acer Aspire One Users) where you can get instructions on how to install any OS on it. I do not have any plans for upgrade anything on it since it will be outdated in 1.5 year. It's a good toy to take with you on vacation to check e-mails and read news. Pros: brilliant screen, large HDD, lots of USB ports, output to TV, easily OS upgradeable. Cons: Battery life is poor(2-2.5hrs), cramped keyboard (prepare to correct typos frequently). Overall it's a great toys to play with.

5 of 5 Nice netbook Thursday, January 29, 2009
Chuck from Grand Blanc, MI
I have the 1 gig version of this netbook, as pictured. I'm a big linux fan and have been running linux since 2000 on various desktops. Since this netbook is really for my daughter I changed the OS to XP. It hurt the speed a little but is now more user friendly for her. You really need to see how small these things are before you buy one. For me, the screen is just to little for everyday use but my daughter loves it. Changing the OS wasn't easy but you can find step by step instruction on the net if you look.

5 of 5 Amazingly Powerful Netbook! Wednesday, January 28, 2009
BigD from Raleigh, NC
Unlike the other reviewer, I actually have the unit listed here (AOA150-1382) and have been VERY impressed with this netbook (after some software modifications, including wiping Linux and installing Windows). I'm running Windows 7 beta with the stock config (1.6G Atom, 1GB RAM, 160GB HD) and it runs great! I don't play games, so I wasn't worried about the integrated graphics. However, I do watch videos and movies and this laptop is perfect for that purpose. You'll only need to get them in a "portable" format (not on a disk, unless you want an external DVD drive). It plays most video formats fine, but can stutter with some high-def H.264 material. DVD quality divx, xvid, wmv, mov, vob, etc. files playback excellent. Just download the VLC player and you are ready to go! I would recommend wiping the Linux and installing Windows. Yeah, I know, some of you hate Windows, but if you want maximum compatibility, you'll want Windows. I'm dual booting XP and 7 beta. Drivers for XP are available on Acer's website and the only one I needed for Windows7 beta was the Atheros wireless driver (everything else just worked). The XP one worked for 7 as well. Also, here is an interesting finding....this netbook is powerful enough to play HD video through an external USB ATSC tuner card. I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-950 and was completely SHOCKED and AMAZED it could handle the HD ATSC video! Talking about the perfect portable TV, media player, surfing machine, etc....I'm completely satisfied with this unit. I do plan on eventually upgrading the memory and HD. Anyone wanting to tackle this should search the net. It appears to require quite a bit of disassembly and patience. Memory is limited to a max of 1.5GB and the hard drive is 2.5" SATA, currently limited to 500GB. The only other shortcoming is the battery. I get about 2:15 on the stock, 3-cell battery. I may soon pony up for the 6-cell (around $60 on ebay). One other quick note, the keyboard is very easy to use. I have big hands and can type at a pretty good rate with few errors. It seems much better than my 10" MSI Wind. I snagged this Acer when it was on sale for $259 and think that was a STEAL! Thanks for the great deal Buy.com!

3 of 5 Very nice, delicate, extremely hard to upgrade Thursday, January 22, 2009
Kriston from Washington DC
I have the 512-megabyte version. This meant immediate upgrade to 1-gigabyte. Unfortunately it's extremely difficult to upgrade the memory on this netbook, so by all means get this version which already has 1 gigabyte on it. These netbooks cannot go higher than 1.5 gigabytes. The really nice version of Linux on this model runs really well in 1 gigabyte, and at this price you can save the money and effort you would have spent upgrading the memory on the 512 MB model. The shell of the notebook is more delicate than it needs to be. I recommend vinyl notebook skin or contact paper to protect it.
