 Editor's Note
Landon Carter (Shane West) and his friends are the coolest kids in Beaufort, North Carolina. They wear the right clothes, drive the right cars, and get into just enough trouble to be rebellious. Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) is the opposite--there doesn't seem to be anything cool about her. The preacher's daughter, plain Jamie wears big boxy dresses and the same sweater every day. She endures the scorn of Landon and his friends with a smile, always looking for the best in people. When a prank planned by Landon and his friend goes terribly wrong, the principal sentences him to tutoring on the weekends and working on the school play, activities in which Jamie is involved. As the two begin spending time together, Landon finds himself intrigued by this guileless girl who sees beauty in everything and exhibits unwavering faith in people and in the world. When circumstances beyond Landon and Jamie's control threaten their love, he stays by her side and does everything he can to make her dreams come true. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, the film also stars Peter Coyote and Daryl Hannah.

| | Professional Reviews | Los Angeles Times "...A WALK TO REMEMBER is a sensitively told story of first love....West and Moore rise to the challenge their roles demand under the committed direction of Adam Shankman..." 01/25/2002 p.C17Variety "...Shane West makes an appealingly persuasive transition from embittered cynic to earnest romantic..." 01/28/2002 p.28 Chicago Sun-Times "...A love story so sweet, sincere and positive that it sneaks past our ironic defenses....It tells a quietly touching story of a love based on values and respect..." 03/17/2002 p.5 Total Film "...[Moore] turns in a sensitive, charming and radiant performance..." 10/01/2002 p.131 San Francisco Chronicle 8 of 10 ...like Love Story [the film] carries a powerful emotional punch. West, a brooding babe-in-training, weaves a complex web of feelings in his portrayal of Landon. The sexy Moore, certainly among the most winning of the latest crop of singers, is even more captivating as an actress.... Terrific, in fact, describes the whole affair. - Octavio Roca Chicago Sun-Times 8 of 10 The performances by Moore and West are so quietly convincing we're reminded that many teenagers in movies seem to think like 30-year-old standup comics... That Jamie and Landon base their romance on values and respect will blindside some viewers of the film... A Walk To Remember is a small treasure. - Roger Ebert

5 of 5 I didn't want to like this movie!! Friday, August 30, 2002 A Viewer from Richmond Va
The last thing I wanted was to enjoy a teen bopper chick flick, but I can barely remember being more moved by a movie. The classic coming of age movie done much better than most. The story was great, not because of the two main people but how the story is told about how friends and family act/react when you don't follow the path they have established for you. I suspect both characters get to the place where they are both suppose to be and disregard there predetermined paths.
I was glad my daughter chose this dvd and I'm glad I listened to her and watched this movie. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 A nice movie for the family to watch Friday, July 12, 2002 A Viewer from Massachusetts
When my 15 year old daughter brought this home as a rental, I thought "not another contrived teenage love story." Well, the plot has been done before (bad boy falls in love with sweet girl) but this movie does it well. The whole family sat down and watched silently through the whole movie. After the show was over we all concluded that this "was a good movie." Try to get three family members to agree on anything (picking take out food is a nightmare).
Mandy Moore is very convincing as the sweet and innocent Jamie Elizabeth. Though her acting may not yet be top notch, I think this young lady has potential. Her song "Only Hope" will make you a fan forever. No lip-synching for this kid, she's genuine. BTW, if you want to see a singer make good at his first acting attempt, watch P Diddy in Monster's Ball.
Shane West does as good job as Landon Carter, a truly believable tough guy with a heart of gold. Expect to see more of him in the future. As for Peter Coyote, damn it's just good to see him anytime.
My daughter wants to add this to our DVD library, a slot has already been reserved. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 romantic Monday, July 08, 2002 baskitbalhotte04 from warrenville, illinois
WOW! This romantic love story between a smart, inteligent girl and, a "groopy" is the most remarkable movie i have ever seen. Some parts want to make you cry and others laugh. This movie will be a classic for all time and forever, if you have not yet seen this movie please do it's one of many great's. Jamie a girl without a HIGH SOCIAL STATUS and a boy who she has known for quite sometime, seem to make through a tough time knowning that they always have eachother. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 It isn't as bad as a movie as you think it will be Saturday, July 06, 2002 A Viewer from michigan
I admit, that my first reaction upon hearing about this movie was, "oh great- another teeny bopper flick" and I was defintley not going to see it. But then some friends dragged me over and i have to say, i am glad i went. I'm not going to lie to you-this movie isn't oscar worthy. But the redeeming part about it, is that it really makes you feel. Granted the plot line is predicible, but it really is the acting that makes you keep watching. Shane West and Mandy Moore have incredible chemistry in this movie, making it more believable and allowing the auidience to actually emphathize with the characters. Also by the end of the movie, Mandy Moore had proven to me that she does ahve acting ablity. So get the movie- and take a chance. Was this review helpful?
