Author Bio
Christopher Raschka
Author and illustrator Christopher (Chris) Raschka creates picture books on such subjects as race relations, friendship, and the wonder and beauty of jazz. Although he was accepted to medical school, Raschka instead decided to pursue a career in art. He has worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines but eventually turned to writing and illustrating children's books. His first book, R AND R, was published in 1990; it was followed in 1992 by his highly praised, lyrical introduction to the life of jazz musician Charlie Parker: CHARLIE PARKER PLAYED BE BOP. His 1993 picture book YO! YES? earned him a Caldecott Honor for his illustrations and was also the U.S. winner of the UNICEF-Ezra Jack Keats Award.Author and illustrator Christopher (Chris) Raschka creates picture books on such subjects as race relations, friendship, and the wonder and beauty of jazz. Praise
"Raschka's genius lies in capturing the essence of situations that are deeply felt by children. They know how easy it is to cause an accident and will feel great relief at absorbing a way to repair damage."
