"Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course.".." (from the first line)

The legendary auto executive and #1 bestselling author of "Iacocca: An Autobiography" sets America straight and trumpets a return to common sense. He writes with wit, warmth, and unflinching honesty about the issues foremost on every American's mind, from job security and global competition to the war in Iraq and the problems faced by the auto industry.

Annotation:
As former president of the Ford Motor Company and later of Chrysler (whose fortunes he turned around dramatically), Lee Iacocca is an American legend, and an undisputed leader in his field. In WHERE HAVE ALL THE LEADERS GONE?, Iacocca is severely critical of the quality of leaders in business and government, saying they lack a sense of responsibility. Poor leaders harm their companies and the industry, and their bad decisions impact on the nation's economy and on America's standing worldwide. He presents a test, based on qualities he looks for in leaders, all which begin with the letter C: curiosity, character, courage, conviction, etc. , and he evaluates the announced or expected presidential candidates for 2008 accordingly. He also speaks out about America's trade deficit, fair trade, China and India, and America's place in the world; and he addresses domestic issues such as how greed and corruption undermine the public's trust in business. Iacocca tells many fascinating stories (including one about the biggest mistake he ever made--which ultimately led to the fall of Chrysler). He brings the voice of experience to what he clearly sees is a current leadership crisis, and he urges Americans to take action.

Praise
"Iacocca is outraged....This is a surprisingly outspoken take on the pressing need for leadership in this country." - David Siegfried 03/15/2007

Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course."

Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out!

You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The President of the United States is given a free pass to ignore the Constitution, tap our phones, and lead us to war on a pack of lies. Congres

5 of 5 So What's New ??? Wednesday, April 11, 2007
VRC from Rogue River, Oregon

This cannot be a review of the book, since it is not yet available -- this is an op-ed piece -- the title says it all -- Iacocca is a latter day George Patton -- he gets to say what he feels and is has immediate credibility because of who he is -- frankly, I have to agree with him -- as a cynic, contrarian, and iconoclast, I am not alone in feeling that democracies like ours are sometimes our own worst enemies -- monarchies, sometimes, and dictatorships, almost always, are "blessed" [or more precisely cursed ] by having real leaders -- but leadership is a value-loaded concept -- you only get to have leaders when there is somebody willing [ or unwilling ] to be led -- Julius Caesar, Jesus Christ, Hitler, and Idi Amin were all leaders, were they not ? -- We are a people that believes we can be independent, autonomous, and qualified to make decisions for ourselves, yet half of us want someone to do it for us ... the government -- when that proves futile, we blame those folks we elected: our leaders -- fact is, most people are dependent, can never be autonmous, and are completely unqualified to make decisions for themselves -- the result is a self-fulfilling prophesy -- leadership that is mediocre at best, criminal at worst -- it isn't just Bush; it wasn't just Clinton -- Why do we persist in believing that leadership rests with one individual -- I knew Lee Iacocca when I was at Ford Motor Company -- he was a tyrant, a bigot, and a classic intimidator --he took no crap from Henry Ford II -- it cost him his job -- in short, he was a great leader -- if you were a Ford stockholder you had to love him -- if you worked for him, not so much -- IMO, America does not have leaders any more -- we have a reluctant consensus choice of an individual who may not even have won the popular vote -- a landslide would be considered getting a 55% pluralty -- what emerges is not leadership, at least not the kind that even 50% of the people will accept -- So what's new ???

5 of 5 Excellent, Someone finally had the guts..... Tuesday, April 10, 2007

I was wondering myself why no one has come up as a standing leader from the many almost insane events happening to our country. Well, you know this was the best way to put it, kind of funny but at the same time making you realize that it's also outrageous for us to continue to allow what is happening to us in this country. Only Iacocca could still maintain charm and not lose his cool as he describes what seems to many of us younger like a nightmare. Where are the checks and balances? What is going to happen when we lose all that made US great? A country for prosperity and hard work but also for love of Family and Nation and of respectful diplomatic relationships with others. Time is running late and crying out to Internationalist's later on when they own us and our land, will not make our country better but extremely worse. For profits and big stocks have no Mother land but we the Poeple DO.
