1 of 5 Failed after 14 months limited use Wednesday, March 26, 2008
JW from Milwaukee, WI
Very poor value for this purchase. HD's should last longer than this. The drive barley cleared the warranty and failed (one year, 2 mos). It was a waste of my money and certainly not worth replacing. very disappointed in this product. WD support was very courteous, but really didnt care.

Works very well. No problems what so ever. Connected to my comp and backed up my files, very easy to use. The only thing that I dont like is the cable is short but not a big problem.

5 of 5 WD Passport way worth it Wednesday, February 20, 2008
paul_hardin@byu.edu from Provo, Utah
The Western Digital Passport portable drive is EXCELLENT! It's very light, draws power from the USB port on my wife's Acer laptop, and takes care of her space needs because of all the family photos she takes. It was super-easy to set up and worked immediately. I really like the thin formfactor: I velcroed it to the top of my wife's laptop, and the little cord is just the right length so she can open and close the laptop and take it anywhere without unplugging the Passport from the USB port or removing the drive from the laptop lid. It's an amazing little drive that really fits our needs.

Nice drive. Could be built more sturdy. Wish there was some kind of harder case to protect it.

5 of 5 Great with laptops..... Monday, February 18, 2008
A Customer from Texas
Perfect size for laptops. Just got mine and it was simple to use. Did not use the pre-installed software. Elected to use Windows (vista) 'Drag n Drop' and everything is fine! I would say it is definitely worth the money!

5 of 5 Portable Backup Hard Drive Friday, January 25, 2008
Murphy from Astoria, OR
This drive is great for backups. Installed with ease. Everybody complaining about the short cable...so what. Well maybe they could sell you a spare so you could leave the one plugged in to the port that you can't see on your desktop and use the other one for your laptop. Much better than burning CDs or DVDs. Didn't try their software...just copying with explorer works fine for me. I am always wary of software that trys to do stuff for you...like the Roxio software that backed up my picture folder but didn't bother to include my movies that I lost...but that's another story.

5 of 5 Outstanding Product and value priced! Wednesday, January 23, 2008
Mike S. from Cincinnati, OH
I received the WD Passport Protable Harddrive faster than anticipated(but I have come to expect that from Buy.com). The HD is VERY easy to use. I plugged it into my MAC and it was ready to work. Back up and transfer of data was very simple. All I did was highlight the desired items and drag them over. When I plugged it into my DELL laptop, all the data was there ready for me to use. Yes the USB cable is short, but since I already had an extension, it was no problem. I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone who desires hassle free back up and storage of their important documents, music, photos, etc.

3 of 5 Good disk; lousy instructions Monday, December 31, 2007
Carl Reynolds from Rochester, NY
I finally have this disk doing what I wanted it to do, which is to allow me to copy large numbers of files from my primary computers and provide backup copies. Unfortunately, I have spent many hours getting to this point. The "instructions" that come with the drive consist of 3 pictures, and the pictures imply that you must run a program called WD Synch to access the disk functionality. When I ran WD Synch, the program finished about 24 hours later. When I could not figure out how to restore any of the files (the files are encrypted in the process, and even the names disappear), I went to the Western Digital web site and learned that WD Synch is specifically not for backup. If you lose a file, and resynch with the portable drive, the file will also be removed from the portable drive! OK. The short answer is that all you need to do for backup is to copy files in the usual way from the computer to the portable drive. To restore, just copy them back from the portable to the computer. Forget about WD Synch altogether. There must be people who care about WD Synch, but I doubt there are very many who do, and I sure don't. I consider the instructions packed with this disk to be wholly inadequate. It's too bad that an apparently good product has now left a bad taste in my mouth, simply because the factory couldn't finish the job with a page of helpful prose.

5 of 5 external usb hard drive 120gb Sunday, December 30, 2007
Neal from Little Rock, AR
I purchased the usb external portable hard drive (120 gb)for my neice as a christmas gift and she loves it. It did not slow down her computer and she backed up her entire system on it. Ordering and delivery saved me countless hours shopping in stores and attempting to find it.

Sara from Carbondale, IL
I was about to buy yet Another FlashDrive when my friend suggested to get a portable hard drive... Now with the money I was gonna spend buying a flashdrve, I have got 15 TIMES MORE GB's, plus its much faster than a Flash Drive and some computers that didn't read my flash drives easily, read my Western Digital Passport very nicely and FAST!!

1 of 5 NO Encryption, False Ad, No Customer Service Respo Monday, December 03, 2007
A Customer from San Mateo, CA
Order arrived in 3 days. I was excited, however, this doesn't provide Encrypt as said in Ad. Sync asks for password, but as no encryption. It says, Data can be accessed only with password, but no, thats not true. I called Western Digital Customer Service, but no response, 36 minutes, and still music. I looked for encrypt software, most needs to be paid or use gnupg.org or truecrypt.org types. I wouldn't recommend this hard drive. I have acom data, the only negative factor is, it would require power, but is highly Secured as it has password protection by default. Can't pass that without password. NOT SO IN WESTERN DIGITAL. I will return this, right away. I visited their site, and even that no where mentions password protection, and encryption. This isn't to be trusted security wise. Its like saving your data for someone to view at anytime. Its you being Naked without a strong password protection. Thanks.
