I purchased this external hard drive on the basis of reviews and price.I wanted something simple to use and install and one that was from a well thought of manufacturer. I am using it to back up my digital photos primarily and it works great. it "self installed" and was immediately recognized by Windows XP and with a USB 2.0 connection, if very fast. I would definetly recommend this to a friend and if I needed another external drive, I would buy another. Was this review helpful?

ANY WD portable Passport is worth 10x its weight in GOLD
store everything you always wanted to have and did want to load on your computer...or just bring it all with you and use someone elses computer....I travel and love the idea of bringing my files along..audiobooks, pictures etc..First when you get it if you are a PC user ..Format it to same format as your computer NFTS..especially if you want to bring file along bigger than 4gb total... after the format is done...spend some time loading your files that you want to save or get off your computer...this baby hols a bundle and with the bright red you will never loose ! When I decided to get the WD 320 GB protable drive because of the low cost and the excellent experince I had had with the WD 250 GB protable, I was not sure about the whole real red situation. But the cost was too good to pass up so I went ahead and got the red drive. The 250 GB drive I already had was shinny black. When the drive arrived I pluged it into the computer and it began working perfectly. Then it dawned on me, since the other drive was black and this one was red, I could easily tell them apart. One of the drives was named "O" and the other "P". So now with color and letter IDs I was set. As far as performance, it works perfectly and is even fast enough to edit DV video directly from the protable drive. And the red color is pretty "cool" after all. Was this review helpful?

Great little powerhouse. Fantastic speed and utility. But after a bit of a struggle with thier nice sync utility/program I dumped it and just used it in its basic form as an add-on drive and ignored all the fancy features which added to my work load. Also my 4 FT USB extension cables were a problem so I had to use only the short 15" cable provided. Maybe my extension cables are too cheap but they work for every other USB device.
