These are great! I have 4 of them. I keep all my photos & video on here so as not to clog up my computer hard drive space. Then I can take them to work, class, or wherever I go. As the prices for these great little drives keep dropping, I keep buying more. I use them to ship large data files back and forth (too large to email or put on CD/DVD). I love not having to ship a power brick and cables around with them. I have 4 in rotation. Just upgraded from the 160 gig versions to the 320s (in the way of technology paying less for the 320s than I did for the 160s!) and they are working flawlessly. Highly recommend. This product is good overall. But the only thing i didn't like is that even though its a 320gb external hard drive i only got to utilize 300gb of it. I was not able to use about 20gb of it. I would have been more satisfied if i could have used that extra gb. Was this review helpful?

I needed any portabe drive to take backup of videos, photos, documents and what not. This one is quite light weight, small enough to go in shirt or jeans pocket. I didnt use the synchronization software or anything else given free with the drive. I do manual drag-copy-paste the documents to take backup. Works perfectly with Windows Vista and XP.
Only cons in this product is the USB wire. It is ridiculously short (around 18 inches or even less).
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the product and would recommend it to others. Was this review helpful?

The WD external hard drive is the best one I have. Its user friendly, compact and doesn't need a separate power supply, which really makes it portable. I use this HD on a Mac mini connected to a flat-screen TV in the family room for photos & music. The installation was as simple as plugging in the USB cable - that's it - it's done. Out of the box this drive was easy to install and access. It is relatively fast to access. It is powered through the USB port eliminating the need for an additional power supply. With this drive I am able to free up over 20gb of music downloads from my computer without any loss of performance. For the money this is a great product. I bought this drive to back up projects for school and not use all the memory on my laptop. It's very compact and fits nicely in my case. I was really impressed with the physical size of the drive and the capacity-320Gb. It's more than enough to fit my needs. It's also a breeze to set up. You just plug the included USB cable into your computer and viola! It's really nice having a back-up drive that can go with you wherever you go and you hardly notice it's there! An idiot could use it! It's that simple to use. Take it out and plug it into the USB port with the included cable. Windows finds it and you are set to go. My minor gripe is that I don't like the LED on the case edge that indicates the drive has power, but it's a minor (and personal) peeve. Was this review helpful?

This is my third passport 320 GB drive and this one, like the rest, was a breeze to install and use. I have found the drive to be durable (I carry it in my backpack every day) and fast. I am using it with a Vista laptop and have had no issues with it. I will point out that it comes formatted with the fat32 file system, this means that you cannot put very large files (over 4+GB) on it. I reformatted mine to use the NTFS file system instead, this eliminates the file size restrictions. The format took several hours with my laptop, but I suspect this is more a function of my laptop, not the drive. I would highly recommend this drive. Was this review helpful?

This is a very convenient and small external drive. At 320 GB, it's perfect for it's small physical size. I like that it is powered soley by the included USB cable. The one thing I don't like is that there is NO protective case included with the drive. Great product, just works out of the box as an external storage device. Performance is good and it's a great plus that no external power is needed. Bundled software is not very friendly unless you use it as intended only (not good for customization).
You are better off using google desktop, picassa or other indexing software for managing large number of files or pictures in the device. Walmart sells a storage pouch made by caselogic that fits this hdd like a glove. Was this review helpful?

this hardrive is very easy to use, definitely plug and play. I've used it both with my XP machine and my daughter's macbook with no problems. Transferring files is a snap and there is plenty of space for files. It's nice not to need another power source, just plug it into your usb port and you're ready to go!
