    5 of 5 Great Price! Sunday, August 24, 2008
    Jason from Corpus Christi, Texas
This product shipped very fast with the free shipping that was offered. Very simple to use. It is $110.00 cheaper here than it was at Circuit City. It has a very good read/write speed. If you need extra storage space this is for you.

    5 of 5 Gr8 product for the price Saturday, August 23, 2008
    niloynibhochaudhury@gmail.com from Devon, PA
This one is a gr8 product for its price. Did some initial testing by copying around 7 GB of data from my hard disk to the WD and the result is gr8. Good very good speeds. However, while downloading a big software package directly from internet to this drive the copying speed was reduced greatly. But the problem may also be due to problems with net connection at that time so can not comment specifically on that. Will do some more testing and post the results. Another problem which I faced was suddenly this drive disappeared from the browse window. This is also I am checking and will keep this post updated with results of that.

    1 of 5 Just doesn't work Monday, July 21, 2008
    A Customer from Fairfax, va
Like a few others on here, my computer first wouldn't see the drive, then I switched which USB port is was in, and it saw it?(my other drive works find in the original USB port). I can't write to the drive...even one small .jpg. It constantly freezes up my computer (it's high end with plenty of power), and as of now it's useless. I wouldn't buy another one and I'm contacting buy.com to see what they can do or recommend. It was a huge disappointment.

    5 of 5 A.O.K. Sunday, July 20, 2008
    Brent from Lorton, VA
I've had this hard drive for about 2 weeks. So far it's working just fine. I have it connected as NAS to an 802n Apple Base Station. I've found that the hard drive will spin down when it isn't used for a bit (not sure how long, but less than 1 hour). But, at least for the Mac users, I've found that you will have to repartition the drive before formatting it. You need to do this to change the partition table. The Apple Disk Utility can do this for you, and of the options available you'll have to select the partition table you want for the task(s) that the hard drive will do - the options are explained in the Apple Disk Utility. After repartitioning, it's been working fine at about 930GB.

    5 of 5 Seamless performance x2 Sunday, July 20, 2008
    -FG- from Doylestown, PA
This is my second USB-connected 1GB MyBook from WD. They came formatted as FAT, so I immediately reformatted them as NTFS partitions, and have had no problems with either. I use them for my main system backup storage (2x daily), alternating them weekly so even if one of them fails, I will never lose more than a week's worth of new data if my main system also fails. The only performance issue is that because they are USB devices, it takes a while for full backups, but that's the limitation of the USB-II interface, not the fault of the drive(s). It's the best 'bang for the buck' I have found, and I have had no reliability issues with either one. Even so, I would not use only one for primary storage -- I believe in always having a backup. ;)

    5 of 5 Works great Sunday, July 13, 2008
A Customer from New York, NY
At 190 bucks, this was a steal. Runs nice and cool, and in NTFS, it's the best 1 TB hard drive available.

5 of 5 Works Fine So Far Sunday, July 13, 2008
    wordwonk from Boca Raton, Florida
I added this device to my external storage storage devices to store approximately 66,000 music tracks, and as a backup for my video files. I have additional space to which I am backing up my desktop PC. It was a fabulous price too. It's all good! :>))

    2 of 5 Don't do it. Monday, June 30, 2008
Ed Trillo from Los Angeles, CA
I am a pro photographer so I need tons of external storage for my files (I shoot in Raw format so each picture is 14mb each, and I shoot hundreds/thousands of shots per photoshoot). I have lots of external storage devices and it seems that all the ones with Western Digital drives crap out on me more frequently and sooner than Seagates (I only buy WD or Seagates). TWO of my WD Mybooks have already failed. One was working perfectly fine, until I shut it off safely and re-plugged it into another computer. It then showed up as "E:Local Drive" and when I clicked on it to browse, it asked if I wanted to format it. UGH. Thankfully I have a copy of Active@ Undelete Pro and I was able to recover all my files (after about 6 days of transfer time), to my Seagate external drives. I can't even start to tell you how many of my Western Digital internal drives have failed on me in the past too. Anyway, if you have a choice in two drives of similar capacity and price, and one of them was WD, I'd go with the other.
