This collection presents pop princess Jessica Simpson covering Robbie Williams ("Angels"), her more rock-inclined little sister Ashlee performing "Pieces of Me," and Bowling for Soup offering up nostalgia-driven pop-punk with "1985." |

NOW 17 also features Scottish post-punks Franz Ferdinand thrashing away on their guitars ("Take Me Out"), Canadian alt-metal act Finger Eleven going unplugged ("One Thing"), and Christian rockers Switchfoot getting secular ("Dare You to Move"). Covering country territory are self-professed "redneck woman" Gretchen Wilson ("Here for the Party") and pretty-boy guitar wiz Keith Urban ("Days Go By"). Of course, hip-hop was still a heavy presence on the charts at the end of '04, as revealed by the old-school sounds of the Beastie Boys ("Ch-Check It Out"), the anthemic rap of Black Eyed Peas ("Let's Get It Started") and the boastful rhymes of Nelly and Jaheim ("My Place").
