Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. When she meets the mysterious, alluring Edward Cullen--a vampire--her life takes a thrilling and terrifying romantic turn. Young Adult.

Annotation:
Seventeen-year-olds Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are enmeshed in an intense, hungry love that leaves them both destroyed, yet passionately longing for more. Bella's scent and very being excites Edward, a vampire who, along with his family, abstains from feasting on humans. After a difficult start, the two become inseparable, learning more and more about each other as the days pass, all the while knowing that with every thrilling moment might end with Bella's death. The beautiful, evergreen landscape of Washington state's Olympic Peninsula permeates this gripping, fast-paced drama as it torpedoes through the notions of family, relationships, and sacrificing everything imaginable for true love.

School Library Journal
"Meyer adds an eerie new twist to the mismatched, star-crossed lovers theme: predator falls for prey, human falls for vampire. This tension strips away any pretense readers may have about the everyday teen romance novel, and kissing, touching, and talking take on an entirely new meaning when one small mistake could be life-threatening...Realistic, subtle, succinct, and easy to follow, TWILIGHT will have readers dying to sink their teeth into it." 10/01/2005

Author Bio
Stephenie Meyer
On June 2, 2003, Stephenie Meyer, a mild-mannered Mormon housewife living near Phoenix, AZ, had one of the most prolific and profitable dreams of all-time. Meyer dreamt of a darkly handsome vampire whose love for a comely young lady was constantly threatened by his unearthly desire to suck her blood. Even though she was raising three children under the age of five at the time, Meyer somehow managed to extend her vivid dream into a popular book for teens, TWILIGHT, published in 2005. By 2008, the four books of the TWILIGHT series were the four top-selling books of the year, according to USA Today, an unprecedented feat that has never been accomplished by any other author. The four main books soon spawned countless companion guides, a network of related websites, a blockbuster film series, and an emerging genre of TWILIGHT-related alternative rock, led by artists recommended by Meyer through playlists on her website. ||While her lucid nocturnal hallucination has now evolved into an international multimedia phenomenon, Meyer herself has remained firmly grounded in her family and her faith. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1973, but the Meyer family settled in Phoenix when Stephenie was only four years old, and she has lived there ever since. She and her five siblings--two sisters, three brothers--quickly grew tired of the BRADY BUNCH comparisons they were inevitably bombarded with (Stephenie, the middle sister, would have been Jan). A National Merit Scholarship paid her way to Brigham Young University, where she earned a degree in English, though she focused on reading literature, rather than writing it. While at BYU, Meyer "met" and married her husband, "Pancho," though they had actually known each other as acquaintances since they were toddlers. Meyer and her family are observant Mormons, which means she does not drink alcohol or caffeine (though she admitted to Time magazine that she sneaks an occasional Diet Pepsi), and she does not watch R-rated films. Luckily for her, TWILIGHT, the film version of her book, was rated PG-13.

Chapter One

Forks High School had a frightening total of only three hundred and fifty-seven - now fifty-eight - students; there were more than seven hundred people in my junior class alone back home. All of the kids here had grown up together-their grandparents had been toddlers together. I would be the new girl from the big city, a curiosity, a freak.

Maybe, if I looked like a girl from Phoenix should, I could work this to my advantage. But physically, I'd never fit in anywhere. I should be tan, sporty, blond - a volleyball player, or a cheerleader, perhaps - all the things that go with living in the valley of the sun.

Instead, I was ivory-skinned, without even the excuse of blue eyes or red hair, despite the constant sunshine. I had always been slender, but soft somehow, obviously not an athlete; I didn't have the necessary hand-eye coordination to play sports without humiliating myself - and harming both myself and anyone else who stood too close.

5 of 5 Stephenie Meyer captures every emotion in this boo Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Topbookreviews from Mid-west
Stephenie Meyer captures every emotion in this book. This book is extremely well-written with excellent pacing, great dialogue and description. My heart went out to the beautiful young heroine who falls in love with a sweet vampire teen. Luckily for her, his band of friends are all "nice" vampires and surround her with loving protection when needed. (I'm not saying why their protection is needed because I don't want to spoil your reading pleasure.) Of course, you are in Bella Swan's head and see and feel everything through her eyes. I just can't explain the thrill you will get when you read this exciting, seductive, beautiful novel, so all I can say, is get your hands on it and pray for the sequel!!! It has everything you'd wish for and the author never makes the mistake of over-explaining things or being overly descriptive, letting the beautiful simplicity wash over the reader. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it. While I'm near the end, I'm reading it at a rapid pace because it's so addictive. There is something about his books that bring you in and get you hooked. I'm loving this one and with only 40 pages to go until the end.
