5 of 5 Its a cable and works well Saturday, March 21, 2009 Ferb from Omaha, Nebraska
For me it connects an external hard drive with an e-SATA connecter on the computer. It works well; the price is right and, therefore a rating of 5 for the affordable price and no problems. Was this review helpful?

6 of 6 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Works flawlessly with Fantom 1TB G-Force External Sunday, February 08, 2009 Eugene from San Jose, CA
I ordered both the Fantom 1TB G-Force External Hard Drive (Dual Interface, eSATA and USB 2.0, 7200RPM) and Tripp Lite eSATA (SATA-II) Signal External Cable. The drive arrived in a few days after ordering with regular shipping, and the eSATA cable arrived the following day.
The drive is very light-weight, and its solid aluminum casing is an impressive +/- 0.25 inches thick.
The following review assumes: (1) I have a computer with eSATA cable connection to juice the file transfer speed; (2) I have Windows Vista Ultimate, 64 bit version (latest service pack and updates as of the writing of this review on 02/08/2009).
Simply remove the drive from the box, plug in the adapter to a powerstrip (I recommend one with a circuit breaker to shield from power surges). Connect the eSATA cable. (Remember that eSATA cables are usually limited in length to approximately 3 feet, and apparently this is a limitation of physics for this lightning fast transfer cable.)
Place the drive on the included plastic (chrome plated) stand or lay it on its side. The drive gets luke-warm, not hot, so you can safely lay it on its side.
The drive is hot-swappable so you don't have to reboot.
I strongly recommend formatting the drive to the NTFS file system. To do so, right-click the drive letter, in my case drive (G:) and select Format. I selected the following: File system: NTFS; Allocation unit size: 512 bytes. (I did NOT check Quick Format to allow Format to check for damaged sectors and so forth.) After selecting Start, the drive takes approximately 90 minutes (maybe less) to format.
To verify the Fantom drive does not have bad sectors, right-click the Fantom drive letter, and select: Properties; Tools tab; Check Now. Select the following Check disk options: (1) Automatically fix file system errors; and (2) Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Select Start. This process takes approximately 90 minutes.
To my delight, this Fantom drive is perfect with no file system errors or bad sectors.
The real test of performance is when I backed-up over 155GB, which is my entire drive contents, in less than half an hour!! Amazing. I'm talking about creating a mirror image of my drive as follows: right-click the Fantom drive letter. Select: Properties; Tools tab; and Backup Now. IMPORTANT: Then click Complete PC Backup. Select Create a backup now (back up everything needed to restore your system). After the message Looking for backup devices appears momentarily, select the Fantom drive letter from the pulldown menu of choices where to backup your drive. Click Next. Check all of the drives you wish to backup. Click Next.
In under half an hour, over 155GB consisting of a mirror image of all my software and files was backed up to the Fantam drive. The speed of an eSATA connection and this well engineered drive is simply unbelievable. I've never been thrilled by drive technology until now.

5 of 5 High quality heavy duty eSata cables Sunday, January 25, 2009 A Customer from San Francisco Bay Area, California
After reading the reviews and doing some research I decided on the Tripp Lite brand. And I'm glad I did. The cables are thicker than SATA cables you would use inside your computer case consequently they don't bend as easily either. They don't have latches but they do hold securely in ports on both ends. 3ft is good if your other device is right next to your external enclosure. I would have bought one in 6ft by this manufacturer if they had one available. Was this review helpful?
