Bet you've never played a game about surgery before!|Take Your Nintendo DS Into the Operating Room!

Trauma Center: Under the Knife lets YOU play doctor, performing increasingly complex surgeries. At first it's just another day in the O.R., but when a mysterious outbreak sweeps the area, the patients' lives are in your hands--no pressure.

The stylus will be your scalpel as you make incisions, anesthetize problem areas, remove tumors, monitor vital signs, apply bandages, and more! Of course, you'll also have to deal with human drama between appointments. Keep a cool head, or you'll be out on the street (and all those years of medical school for nothing).

"An unusual, creative, and very polished game that anyone with a Nintendo DS should seriously consider purchasing." 1UP
"...fast, intense, challenging and addictive...the amount of variety the game consistently manages to come up with is staggering." BonusStage
"A game that is truly incredible and oftentimes deep..." Deeko
"You'll likely never see a better utilization of the DS' touch-screen, nor will you play a pseudo-sim this engaging." GameSpy
"...highly recommended for DS owners, especially if you don't have a load of friends to play multiplayer against." Nintendojo
"...a game that is both more exciting and more educational than Casualty, ER and Scrubs put together." Times Online

Features
Before the Operation: It's just another quiet day in the Trauma Center until a patient is wheeled in. If they need immediate attention, it's up to you to save their life! ...As the storyline progresses, you'll have to operate in a variety of situations.
Tense Events: As you get further into the game, you'll begin to unravel a tale of disease and terrorism... If you don't master various different treatment techniques, you'll never be able to progress the story (or save your patient).
Briefing: Before each operation, there will be a conference detailing their condition and possible treatments. Be sure to pay attention! This information is crucial to the patient's survival, and will let you know what's expected in the coming stage.
Begin the Operation!: After the conference, the emergency operation will finally begin. The time has come where the player's skills will be tested! Do your best to save the patient! One thing to note is that operations occur in real time. That means there's not a second to waste, and everything you do has a direct impact on the patient's well-being.
Nail-biting Operations Each stage is an operation. You'll have to keep the patient alive and cure his or her malady in order to progress on to the next level. Later operations build on skills you learned early on, so don't forget how to treat simple lacerations and hemorrhaging.
Vitals Dropping!: There's more to surgery than fixing the problem at hand?you also have to keep the patient alive. Keep their readings at a healthy level, or all your hard work will be for nothing.
Master the Healing Touch: Derek has a hidden talent called the Healing Touch, which slows time around Dr. Stiles so he can operate at super speed. This might be the only way to save certain patients!

IGN 9 of 10
Atlus has pulled off a very original and clever design on the Nintendo DS platform, and even with the repetitive gameplay and occasional stumble in the design the game still manages to be one of the shining lights in the system's library.

While Doogie Howser may have a better chance of returning to television than you have in learning any real medical knowledge from Trauma Center, the frenzied pace and slick controls easily make this one of the most "infectious" DS games yet released.

GameShark 9 of 10
When I first heard of the game Trauma Center: Under the Knife, I was curious to its true nature. Previously 'Doctor' games like ER were on the market, which were just not entertaining. Another doctor game that has been out on the market for years has been Doctor Mario, but even then the game had its limits. In a way, it is an advanced version of Operation, an old board game, where you used tweezers to perform surgery. While I had not heard many things about TC, it sounded like a great and innovative game. For those whom still have no idea, this is a game where you perform surgery on patients in a virtual world. While that sounds rather limiting, they put this together with so many combinations of injuries that it proves to be quite entertaining...A challenge mode was included, which allows you to visit any of the previous surgeries, without including the storyline. You will get a brief summery of what the problem is, and then they let you go and try and fix it. What I would have liked for a challenge mode would be a constant set of problems coming your way. Where you were trying to last as long as you could with one person, or moving from one medical emergency to another like you were working in a real emergency room. Another thing that would have been interesting would be to see how many people you could treat in an hour. Any of those modes would have been greatly welcomed and will hopefully be included in future iterations...In the end, the game is sort of like a simulation, while the storyline does not follow that path. It is fun while you are playing the game, even though the game can be extremely unforgiving with your moves, as it should be if you were actually operating on someone...All and all, Captain Gordon gives this game an A-, and it is a must have for the DS. - "Captain" Gordon Edward

I really like this game, it's really fun. Some of the operations are a little tough but other than that it's great.

5 of 5 Easy to learn, difficult to master. Thursday, January 03, 2008
Ken from Lehi, UT
At first, the premise of the game didn't appeal to me. It sounded boring and maybe a bit weird. However, once I started playing I was hooked. It's very easy to pick up, but the levels quickly become fast-paced and difficult (in a good way). I recommend this game to any casual or hardcore gamer.
