Danny Elfman's score for Tim Burton's animated feature incorporates elements of classic musicals like FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and OLIVER!, as well as Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, in keeping with Elfman's habitual cherry picking from any popular musical style from the past millennium that seems to take his fancy. Elfman's arrangements turn on a dime, from the quirky, skeletal-yet-hot 1920s jazz of "Remains of the Day" to the conventional brooding Hollywood soundscapes of "Casting a Spell," aided by the creative vocal talents of an inspired roster of performers, including Burton's wife, Helena Bonham-Carter, Johnny Depp, Albert Finney, and the veteran horror film actor Christopher Lee.

Producer: Danny Elfman; Danny Elfman

5 of 5 A Fine and Stirring Mix Saturday, October 08, 2005
Hoyt Bowman from Needham, MA

This intriguing mix of musical styles does a fine job of setting mood for the film, and frequently drawing the viewer into that mood. The film is a beautiful and moving story, and the music actually is an asset, rather than an interruption. The use of the piano to link Victor to both brides is a masterful touch. The only improvement to the album would have been including the full score of the piano pieces as part of the extras.

5 of 5 Very well done. Sunday, September 25, 2005
Meagen from Las Cruces, NM
Overall composition is very beautiful, the movie itself is gorgeous like most of Tim Burton's work. Song arrangement was unique, a hint of halloweenish themes as well as bouncy jazz beats. A very desirable collection!
