| | | Features: DVD The McKenzie brothers beer up under misfortune.
What matters most in life, eh? Hockey, donuts and beer? A slab of back bacon? And did we mention beer?
At least, that's what matters most to Doug (Dave Thomas) and Bob McKenzie (Rick Moranis) when they bring the goofy lunacy of SCTV's The Great White North to the great wide movie indoors. (Co-writing and directing as well as starring. Whew!) Strange, it is. And Brew, it is, what with our ski-capped hoser heroes upending the mind-controlling scheme of a diabolical brewmeister (Max von Sydow). Beauty, eh!
 Editor's Note
SCTV's Bob and Doug Mackenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) star as two wacky beer guzzling "hosers" who set out on a zany plot to score a free case of brew. They meet the beautiful Pam (Lynne Griffin) and decide to help save her recently acquired brewery from the diabolical Brewmeister Smith (Max von Sydow--THE EXORCIST) The comedy kicks into full gear as the pair try and overpower Brewmeister Smith in a story that is actually a nutty re-working of Shakespeare's HAMLET.

5 of 5 It's a Classic Wednesday, February 11, 2009 Bob (no relation to Doug) from Rice Lake, WI (just under the Great White North)
A couple weeks ago I was disappointed and appalled by the fact that not a single video store in town had this available any more. They all said that they hadn't seen it since they got rid of VHS tapes. WOW, I couldn't believe it. So I got on the internet and found a splendid deal through BUY.com. I received the movies very quickly (yes, I purchased two copies, since they weren't available anywhere to rent, some friend was also going to get a present that would keep on burping). There are only a couple of movies in the whole world that will make you laugh this much. I've given all "5's" in the ratings. This is pushing it a bit, but the fun more than makes up for the fudging on the ratings. Enjoy! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Strange Brew Thursday, January 03, 2008 A Viewer from Virginia Beach, VA
Silliest movie ever made, but my husband loves it so I bought it as a Christmas gift. He's watched it 4 times since. Lots of cheezy lines, bad jokes, silly plot lines all taking place in a Canadian brewery. Was this review helpful?
