5 of 5 Good Switch Friday, October 12, 2007 Mike from Houston, TX
I am using this to switch between two Dell laptops. One is running Windows XP, & the other is running Windows 2000. There was no BIOS configuration needed to get it to work. There was about a minute delay after the first boot (for each computer) to get it to recognize the switch & attached mouse/keyboard/hub. My monitor has a built-in USB hub, & I'm also sharing it through this switch.

There is sometimes a slight delay when switching (typically 2-3 seconds), but nothing too bad.

The switch is made of metal & feels solid & quite heavy for its size.

The only con is the beep it makes when you switch. For home/home office use, it wouldn't be a problem, but the slight beep it makes annoys me. Maybe it needs a bit of modding? Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good option as far as desktop KVMs go. Thursday, March 29, 2007 Mark Baker from Houston, TX
We purchased this unit to test with USB keyboards with integrated SmartCard readers. The unit works great with any peripheral we tried. The only issue we had is more of a Window 2000 issue. When you switch away from a W2K machine and then back to it, you always get the infamous "Unsafe Removal of Device" dialog box. Not sure if you'd ever experience data corruption on a USB hard drive or flash drive, but I would think that it's possible. NICE SMALL FOOTPRINT. No issues otherwise. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Reliable Product Saturday, August 19, 2006 Greg from Pennsylvania
I've used this product since January 2006, and it has worked reliably switching between my Power Mac G5 using OS 10.4.7 and my old PowerCenter computer that uses a USB card and OS 9.2.2. I tried similar products from IO Gear and D-Link, but the StarView is the only one that has worked. I believe that the reason it works, in part, is because it uses a separate power source instead of the USB connection. This product worked from moment I set it up. As it stated in the manual, there is a momentary pause in system responsiveness upon switching. It pauses for about 10 seconds when I switch to the PowerCenter and for a second or two when I switch to the G5. Highly Reccomended. Was this review helpful?
