Based on a Japanese manga, this animated series was dubbed into English in 1967, and has gone on to delight three generations of children with the adventures of its heroic title character. An 18-year old racecar driver, Speed is a courageous and intrepid young man who manages to get involved in some dangerous situations, battling bad guys and solving mysteries with the help of a close-knit circle of friends and family. This includes his girlfriend Trixie, a helicopter pilot who often comes to Speed's rescue; his car-engineer Pops and apple-pie mom; his best friend and mechanic, Sparky; and his mysterious older brother, Rex Racer. Comic relief is provided by younger brother Spritle and his pet monkey, Chim Chim. The 13 classic episodes included in this volume deliver characteristic action and adventure, as Speed races from Egypt to the imaginary realm of Sakkarin, battling wrongdoers and, of course, winning races. With the help of his trusty support team, Speed restores a prince to his rightful throne, saves thousands of lives from the evil intentions of the Car Hater, and battles a team of assassins in Japan.
