I recently installed a small (26") LCD HD TV in the bedroom and was looking for an easy-to-install sound system for under $300. The Bose at $899 was way out of my price range, and I didn't want a five speaker system, especially one with wires running everywhere, so the Sherwood seemed to be a good fit.
Initially I was a little disappointed that the VR-670 was Dolby 2.1 with "Virtual 5.1," but after hooking it up was fairly impressed with the sound. I eventually added an IR wireless headphone setup and am very happy with the 670's Dolby Virtual Headphone mode, which does produce a very nice surround experience. While it does not compare to a true 5.1 5-speaker surround system, given the unobtrusive and attractive form factor, it is a good compromise. My one area of disappointment is that Sherwood did not include an "optical in" port, forcing you to use the coaxial audio input. One other major gripe is that I was unable to code the system to my Dish Network remote.
For anyone looking for a nice sound system for restricted spaces (dorm room, bedroom, office), the Sherwood is well worth looking at. Was this review helpful?
