4 of 5 u3 is good but the performance is not as good as t Wednesday, March 25, 2009
Kido from Housont, TX

After receieving the disk, please do not forget to run HD-Tune to test the R/W speed. The actual R/W speed from HD-Tune is about 25Mb/15Mb not as the spec said 25/18 MB. Finally I decide to keep the thumb drive since I'd spent a lot time to find U3 programs for this disk. If you don't have any concern about the Write SPEED, it is really cool and the offer from Buy.com is good.

5 of 5 Nice item Sunday, March 15, 2009
A Customer from Omaha, Nebraska
I really like the way that this opens and closes. It really protects my USB from dust and such. I also bought 2 of the Cruzer "micros". They have an annoying bright orange light on them when in use, this one has a very pleasent blue light that is not at all distracting. A few times it seemed that my usb was not working, untill I jiggled it around in the port. It may have been the port, but i think that since this item is at least 20% larger then my other USBs the weight/size may have made it not have the best connection with my port. This Item does not have a key-chain hook. But it comes with a small pouch that you can attach to your keychain. The pouch is very snug, and i feel that it will not slip out (but i do fear that it is possible that the entire pouch could rip off of the keychain if i got it cought on something.)

5 of 5 fantastic drive Tuesday, October 07, 2008
Bill H. from Los Angeles, California
After suffering through cheap, slow and junk flash drives I decided to spend a little more and get a good one. This one is great. Super fast and very solid. A little big and heavy but a quality drive all around.

5 of 5 For the design-conscious/ gadget aficionado Wednesday, August 20, 2008
John Coleman from Los Angeles, CA
When I reneged on my plans of buying a portable hard drive like WD's Passport Studio Edition (or whatever it's called) I decided it'd be more economical and less bulk to go with a high-capacity flash drive. Plus I didn't really need an extra hard drive to worry about, if it crashes, or if I lose it and all 160GB of data on it or however much I'd store on it. And hard drives are becoming mass produced to the point of highly questionable quality-control practices. So in keeping with my new outlook on going minimalist whenever possible I decided on a flash drive, but me being a picky designer wanted something that would look pretty slick. The Contour fills that just nicely, especially with it's snapping mechanism that's really really (really) cool. The "contour" logo doubles as a blue activity light. The type on the product is great and not poorly thought out like so many other flash drives. It's got a decent weight to it thanks to the very solid raw metal housing. It's pretty fast transferring data as well, so absolutely no complaints in that area––and on average I do transfers that are at least 100MB at a time. Only issue I had was this U3 software, which is useless if you're on a Mac. You have to go to the US website download the .exe, find a machine with Windows (I have WinXP on VMWare so that wasn't an issue for me), load that up so it uninstalls the program from the drive. Formatting from a Mac won't do anything as I tried several times with OSX Disk Utility. I also am not sure if the value at $65 is truly worth it, though I'm not the best barometer in terms of flash memory market prices. The design is well worth it but it's not entirely necessary (though it does keep the USB contacts clean and lint free for the most part). I bought this when it suddenly went on sale for $45 on Buy and was even cheaper than it's 4GB counterpart. I was pretty lucky timing-wise as I was eyeing the Contour at Office Depot literally two days before.

5 of 5 Fast, Sleek, Well-Designed Tuesday, August 19, 2008
A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
PROS: Unique and very stable slider-design with cover that slides over USB connector (at first it seems counter-intuitive, but it's far superior to a regular sliding flash drive: it doesn't push back in when you insert it in your USB port). A lot faster than most flash drives (14m/s write ~21m/s read according to Vista and self-timings on XP). Attractive subtle blue LED (better than green/orange on Kingston or other models) Very stylish design and metal finish. Lifetime warranty (many other flash drives have 2 or 5 year warranties; if this one breaks, you can always get a warranty replacement!) CONS: A little wider/longer than most flash drives (it's faster though!) (if you have 2 USB ports very close together, you cannot plug in the Contour and another large USB device at the same time without having them collide a bit). Black plastic part seems flimsy and breakable compared to the sturdy metal casing part. About 500mb permanently taken up by built-in U3 software (MyComputer only reports 7.46gb capacity) OTHER: Currently, it's $65, which I think is too much for a flash drive. I got it on sale here at Buy.com for $40. Look for sales and buy it then, it's worth it! There's no hook in the flash drive to loop a lanyard/string/keychain. But it does come with a tiny pouch (with a hook) to store the Contour. I don't use it.

4 of 5 8GB and FAST Tuesday, August 19, 2008
A Customer from Chicago, IL
Extremely fast USB drive. My only complaint is that I've been unable to delete the factory installed software-partition from the drive. I use Macs - so the included software is of no use to me...mildly annoying. Great device, otherwise.

5 of 5 It's fast, and everything I wanted it to be Tuesday, April 22, 2008
John from Des Moines, IA
The Contour is a little bigger, a little heavier, and a little awkward to open and close until you get used to it. But it's REALLY fast! When it comes to the larger flash drives and bigger files, I've learned the hard way that speed is a major factor, and when you shop for a larger flash drive, bypass any that don't tell you the speed in the tech specs. The included U3 apps are probably nice for some, but I wanted the space and the speed, and the setup options allow you to remove the unwanted apps and make it the big and fast drive I was after - for a slightly higher price than other much slower drives the same size. Exactly what I wanted with no surprises, and I've been very happy with it.

5 of 5 Good Thumb Drive Saturday, March 15, 2008
tnelson from Fairfield, CA
A bit big, but it makes it harder to lose. Not the fastest drive on the market but faster than most, and very fast for the price. Not much you can say about a thumb drive. . . .it just works. Kind of a unique way to extend and retract the plug; fun if you are into 'transformer' robot toys. No need for a cap is alwyas nice. And the case is metal which appears to be pretty sturdy. What can I say, no buyer's remorse here. I like it!

5 of 5 SAN DISK HAS DONE IT AGAIN Saturday, March 01, 2008
mranthonysharp from Los Angeles, CA
What can I say about this slick beautiful flash drive. SAN DISK HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! There are several factors that make this product worthwhile: The user friendly format of the drive The price The slick and unique design of it The way you open and close the drive The overall feel and precision of the drive It is not that in that order either. As a fan of flash drives, San Disk is my personal favorite brand. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY AFTER YOU PURCHASE THIS. ENJOY!!!!

4 of 5 Great product Wednesday, February 13, 2008
DJ from Austin, TX
What I like most is the speed of this drive. Its so fast that I cant tell its from an external drive. Some large applications run like from my pc's hard drive. Came with U3 installed which gives you a desktop feel. You can also install any non-U3 portable apps just fine, also get pstart(http://www.pegtop.net/start/) if you do that. The size is substantial though. No key ring hole either. I found the slide shell mechanism a bit clumsy.

5 of 5 had the 4GB cruzer, got the 8GB contour Tuesday, February 12, 2008
A Customer from NJ
The opening/closing of this guy is weird at first, but you get used to it. The reason I got this is because I wanted U3 technology, faster speed than the sandisk cruzer version, along with the 8GB of course. Using Firefox off of the cruzer was a bit too slugish for me to the point where I did not use it, however, the speed of this flash drive makes it a usable feature. It's bigger than the cruzer, but still easy to carry around in your pocket. Buy.com had it the cheapeast with free shipping so they got my business.

I was very disapointed how big and bulky it is for a USB drive.

4 of 5 A good flash drive Friday, December 28, 2007
AHappyCamper from Twin Falls, ID
I purchased the 8 GB Cruzer from Buy.com. On my laptop, it loaded itself without any problem. On my desktop, which is a managed network, I had a problem getting mine to work because it was trying to use drive letters that were already occupied by the network. After working with SanDisk tech support, I was able to get it to work. The tech support was excellent too, which is also an important criteria for my satisfaction with products I buy.

5 of 5 A winner in my book... Tuesday, November 27, 2007
SpoonGouge from Rochester, NY
Loved the drive! Replaced others that I was using and was less than thrilled with. Am currently using it right now as I write this. Got the extra memory for moving data and files between machines.

5 of 5 Best One Yet Tuesday, September 25, 2007
Fletch from Birmingham, AL
Fast upload speeds. No extra caps to lose. TOUGH, I have broken many like these and this has has stood up to the test so far. Software autoloads everytime, and its still faster than one half its memory capability. Software is extremely easy to use. I havent tried the extended ram with Vista capability yet.

2 of 5 avoid, not upto Sandisk usual Thursday, August 02, 2007
A Customer from Redmond, WA
I really, really like Sandisk products (flashdrives, players, etc.). They are the right mix of value, design, and functionality. The countour is not reliable, too big, and a bad design. Wait for them to do better.

5 of 5 Sweet piece of hardware Thursday, July 05, 2007
A Customer from Atlanta, GA
Very substantial weight (and cachet) for a thumb drive--no one's going to mistake it for a cheap plastic toy. Metal frame will presumably make the drive very resilient to damage. It is very fast, which makes it great for ReadyBoost. I use 2 GB for ReadyBoost and still have 6GB of fast U3 portable storage left over. Retraction mechanism is cool, with a little trap door that covers the plug when it's closed. The only thing I wish were different would be its dimensions--it is bit too wide to fit side-by-side in a laptop USB port, and its length makes me nervous when it's sticking out of the front of a computer. All-in-all a great purchase. Good value for the money.

5 of 5 Excellent Design & Speed Tuesday, July 03, 2007
Jeff from NY
Mechanically, this unit is superb the way the USB interface slides into the unit and a cover slides over it. In addition you get a snug fitting leather case to protect it in your pocket. Performance is fast and the software is very nice. Copied all of my Outlook files and other docs thru the software. Very easy to use. Very happy purchaser!

4 of 5 Nice product but needs better encryption Thursday, June 21, 2007
Jas D from Saddle Brook, NJ
I'm a fan of SanDisk. I like all their products I've so far purchased. I think their line of USB Flash drives are very durable and stylish. This product is understandably heavier (since it's 8gb) but my only complaint is that I wish it had better/stronger encryption technology than the standard 128 bit AES. This is something for SanDisk to look into in the future line of flash drives.
