Along those lines, John Mayer appeals to the kind of youngsters who are embarrassed by their parents' Dan Fogelberg collection but equally turned off by vociferous gangstas and misanthropic heavy rockers. ROOM FOR SQUARES (whose very title, not to mention Mayer's studied regular-guy cover pose, bespeaks the revenge of the nerds) accordingly trades in acoustic guitar-based folk-rock tempered with just enough 21st-century freshness to keep its practitioner in the Billboard charts (and his listeners' hearts). That's not to say Mayer's music is calculated; he's got a real feel for melody and a distinctive lyrical style. He also managed to be in the right place at the right time, and that's the key to any pop success. | Producer: John Alagia | Engineer: Jeff Juliano; John Alagia |

5 of 5 You will count this CD among your favorites of all Sunday, November 28, 2004 Kathy from Atlanta,GA
I,too have had this CD in my car for close to a yr. and still have not grown tired of it. I am buying 2 more copies to give to friends for Xmas because I know they will love it. Sorry to disagree but, Dave Matthews has nothing on John Mayer. There simply is no comparison. His voice, the lyrics and melodies are unparalleled. His style is always smooth, slightly jazzy and appeals to such a wide genre. I highly recommend this and his other CDs! However, this one is by far my favorite - so far ;) Was this review helpful?

John Mayer is the next Dave Matthews, although I am a long-time DMB fan, you can actually understand what John says. It's been looping in my cd player for the last 10 months, no joke. Was this review helpful?

What can I say? John Mayer has the most beautiful voice, wonderful lyrics, and guitar playing that makes me want to learn and a soul to the music that sometimes makes me teary eyed. When I listen, I feel like I am in a bar hearing him sing to the crowd over and over again for the first time. Highly recommended! Was this review helpful?

John Mayer sounded so similar to most of the other garbage played on the radio I nearly dismissed his music. But I gave it a chance, thankfully. This CD has so many dimensions to it -- I've listened to it, put it down for ages, and come back to it. Its simple melodies, truly AMAZING lyrics, and the raw talent of Mayer will sneak its way into your heart. Its the same combo of another artist that got his start in the dives on Bleecker St forty years ago. Was this review helpful?

There is something about an artist that's talented. There's something else about an artist's whose work you immediately fall in love with. His lyrics drew me in and made me want to hear more. He sings to you like a dear friend or the boy next door whom you fell in love with. His music is familiar, warm, endearing, and comforting. This CD should compliment ANY collection. He finds his way into your heart AND your CD player over and again. Was this review helpful?

A friend of mine recommended John Mayer's Room for Squares album to me and I immediately fell in love with his music. He is one of the best musicians I've heard in a long time. His lyrics are well written and heart felt. He is a unique artist because he appeals to a wide variety of people. I have even gotten my grandmother turned on to him! If you buy this CD, you definitely won't regret it... Was this review helpful?
