 Editor's Note
An all-star cast proves just how far people will go for the chance to win $2 million in Jerry Zucker's RAT RACE. In the tradition of Zucker's AIRPLANE and NAKED GUN 2-1/2: THE SMELL OF FEAR, this film features wild chase scenes, slapstick comedy, sight gags, impossible situations, and zany characters. Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Lovitz, Rowan Atkinson, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Seth Green, and Breckin Meyer star as the lucky winners of special tokens in the slot machines at a Las Vegas casino. Casino owner John Cleese informs them that they are invited to participate in a race: the first of them to reach Silver City, New Mexico, will receive the $2 million cash prize. To make things interesting, there are no rules, which leads to the commandeering of a bus, a run-in with Nazis, the use of a high-speed experimental car, and revenge on a cheating boyfriend--And that's just the beginning. In the meantime, the participants are really part of a bigger plan: high rollers are betting on which of them will win the cash. Watch for brief appearances by Kathy Bates, Dean Cain, and Wayne Knight. Also starring Amy Smart, Kathy Najimy, Lanai Chapman, and Vince Vieluf.

5 of 5 so funny it was worth it Tuesday, April 02, 2002 Rhonda from Salisbury N.C.
My husband and I watch Rat Race on satellite. He is one that hardly laughs at a movie. When we seen this one though he laughed so much his sides hurt. I laughed so much I started crying. It was worth watching it on pay-per-view and now I am glad it is on DVD. Trust me the movie is worth the money. Was this review helpful?

I waited til dollar day at my local grocery store to rent this. But after watching it I wish I had gone out and paid the full rental price cuz it was worth it. I just finished watching the movie an hour ago. I'm here now to buy it cuz buy.com is like a buck or two cheaper than Walmart and no taxes. So grab it while its hot. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Can a film be smart and silly at the same time? Saturday, February 09, 2002 Tim from Birmingham, Alabama
Apparently so. This is a zany, hilarious movie!! It is refreshing to see this type of comedy that involves very complex and complicated bits rather than the sick, gross-out lowest common denominator comedies that are in vogue today. These gags are wonderfully orchestrated. All of the cast is very strong, but the stand-out to me is Rowan Atkinson. I think this man is one of the greatest living comedians. Whether it's the physical comedy of the Keaton tradition such as this or Mr. Bean, or the largely verbal comedy of the Blackadder series (still the finest BBC comedy), Mr. Atkinson shines as a sublime talent. 5 of 5 Breezy summer comedy worth the price of admission Wednesday, January 16, 2002 Dave from Salem, MA
"Rat Race" is one of the best films that came out of a lackluster season that included the likes of "What's The Worst That Could Happen?" and "Evolution". In this "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" retread, a group of people, all from different walks of life are offered the chance to find $2 million hidden in a locker somewhere. What ensues for the rest of the film is an amusing execution in comedy that doesn't require gross jokes going for the lowest common denominator, with a pretty impressive cast of three oscar winners (Gooding, Goldberg, and Kathy Bates who makes an amusing appearance), a legendary comic actor, a Saturday Night Live alumnus, and seasoned actors. The entertainment is constant with one situation bouncing off another, that manages to hold the interest long enough to watch the film. Definitely worth watching. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A real sleeper!! Wednesday, January 16, 2002 Bob Shoemaker from Canton, Georgia
I originally went to see this movie at the insistance of my ten year old son. I went in with very low expectations but after busting my gut laughing continuously through the entire film I came out with a new appreciation of how little real comedy most current movies contain. And it doesn't need to rely on shock value or R-rated material to gain it's effect. This movie is to comedies what "Indiana Jones" is to action films. A non-stop roller coaster of uncontrollable laughter. I can't wait for the DVD with all the extra features it contains. Was this review helpful?

This is a remake of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" from about 50 years ago. Saw "Rat Race" in the theatre. Cannot wait for the DVD to come out. Get "Rat Race" - then go rent the original with Ethel Merman & cameos by the Three Stooges amongst others. You'll love both! Was this review helpful?
