| Precious Memories is an album with roots as deep as the southern town where Alan grew up, where life lessons were learned, and where a "hymn" was more than a song; it was a way of life. A touching and heartwarming album, Alan re-creates 15 of the most treasured hymns as a special gift to his mother, including "Blessed Assurance," "When We All Get To Heaven," "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With you," and more.
| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Alan Jackson: Alan Jackson (vocals, guitar); Brent Mason (acoustic guitar); Gary Prim (piano, organ); Keith Stegall (piano); John Wesley Ryles, Melodie Crittenden (background vocals). | | On 2006's PRECIOUS MEMORIES, country superstar Alan Jackson ventures into gospel territory, offering up a set of warm and inviting faith-themed songs. These spare tracks feature no percussion and rely almost solely on piano and acoustic guitar, allowing the focus to remain on Jackson's resonant vocals and the songs' devoutly Christian lyrics. Although praising Jesus is clearly the core of this album, the beautifully minimalist renderings of spiritual classics are so soothing and pleasant that the disc's appeal is sure to extend to fans of Jackson's secular music, particularly on "Softly and Tenderly," which is enhanced by gentle organ lines, and "I'll Fly Away," here given a light, jaunty bluegrass feel. The resulting atmosphere evokes images of the Georgia-born singer/guitarist sitting in on a friendly, open-air church service, leading a sing-along of traditional numbers such as "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You." | Producer: Keith Stegall |

| | Professional Reviews | | Rolling Stone (p.94) - "Alan Jackson sings in a rich, restrained baritone that helps give even his rowdier songs a touch of classic-country elegance. That voice is at its most sensibly sturdy on PRECIOUS MEMORIES..."Entertainment Weekly (p.103) - "The delivery of these old church songs is solemn, the accompaniment sparse, and the historical value real..." -- Grade: B No Depression (p.132) - "The arrangements rarely extend beyond stately solo piano or guitar, the harmonies sound homespun and familial, and Jackson's vocal subtlety has a self-effacing humility in the face of a higher power." |

4 of 5 Beautifully produced spiritual hymns Tuesday, May 09, 2006 redtunictroll@hotmail.com from Earth, USA
Alan Jackson -- ever the country music classicist -- restores two traditions at once, offering an album of faith while at the same time paring his accompaniment to an earthier acoustically-inclined core. This collection of fifteen hymns draws its power entirely from Jackson's commitment and the songs' timeless qualities, forgoing any calculated commercial intentions. Originally recorded as a personal gift to Jackson's mother, the album's public release has brought an unexpected dividend, debuting at #1 on the country album chart, while simultaneously topping Billboard's Christian album chart and landing at #4 on Billboard's album chart. CD buyers are tapping into the heartfelt, private nature of the performances, with Jackson's voice and his harmony singers strikingly framed by gentle arrangements of acoustic guitar, piano and organ. The material rings with the familiarity of regular worship services, and will be dear to those raised in the faith; those who spent their Sundays elsewhere will find inspiration in these classic songs. One might be inclined to think of these performances as a family living-room sing, were the family not so unusually talented. Still, the spare arrangements and Jackson's devotion allow the songs to take center stage, with the singer's luminous talent providing the halo. 5 of 5 Also Good Memories Wednesday, March 01, 2006 A Listener from HARLEM GEORGIA
This album is good soul searching toe tapping experience. Reminding me of the old gospel hymns I grew up with, also in a small country church in Georgia. We still sing them! Alan Jackson has been blessed with a wonderful voice that can sing any kind of music. Hearing that he made this alubm for his mom makes it even more special.
