Planar PL2010M 20" LCD Monitor - 1000:1, 8ms

When I bought originally, about 18 months ago, this model had an S-IPS panel. And with the screen matte being "light", it was my favorite display. Recently the DVI port died and Planar replaced mine with a brand new unit... but unfortunately it does not have the great panel the original did. (With the current viewing angle specs of 160 degrees, that would indicate it now has a TN panel. And while it appears better than earlier TNs, the color shifts are obvious and annoying on even small viewing angle deviations from 90 degrees.) I'd have never bought this monitor originally with a TN panel. Nothing to be done here... they changed the model and I just have to live with it. As for Planar as a maker, I'm a big fan! Their service on the replacement was top notch!! I also have a Planar PX2411W (S-IPS)... it is very good and its text contrast is the best of any LCD I've had. Unfortunately, its [recently updated?] specs now also list the viewing angle as "160x160", indicating it too may have been changed to a TN panel. I rated this monitor as a "2" because with a TN panel, it can only be average in overall performance.... and with a TN panel, it's priced like it has a better quality VA or IPS panel. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO OVERPAY FOR A MONITOR WITH A TN PANEL, BE AWARE OF ITS PRICE AND VIEWING ANGLES!

Good quality picture, but the speakers are tiny and only 2W each. Also, in order to lock the controls, the documentation says to press vol+, vol-, and function> buttons simultaneously. But there are no vol buttons on the unit to press (just an analog volume knob). So I cannot lock the settings to prevent accidental mis-adjustment.

Good monitor, the best price I found was at Buy.com and got it with reg ground shipping in 3 days, that is just super fast shipping.

This LCD is awesome. I just received it and the colors look incredible right out of the box. The UXGA resolution makes everything extra crisp and it is great for all my graphic application. This is the lowest price UXGA LCD I have seen in the market. I highly recommend this product!
