As usual the PDF Converter v.5.0 Pro software program was purchased from Buy.com at the lowest price with no S/H on slowest shipping option, but still arrived in 4 days. New v.5.0 is much improved over older versions.

What a great product! Extremely comprehensive for those who do a lot of work with .pdf files. For the rest of us: easy to use and makes working with .pdf's a breeze. Very glad I purchased this product.

First off, I'm only a casual user so I haven't "exercised" the product very hard. But for what I need it for it works great at significant savings of "the market leader". I like the convert web page to pdf feature. I also use it to annotate pages to existing pdfs. It had problems converting complex documents with graphic images to word format. Overall, a good medium weight product for the casual user.

Hi all. Let me make this as simple and non-technical as possible. PDF Converter 5 from Nuance is an outstanding. It really is the only true alternative to Acrobat - at only a fraction of the price. I have used Acrobat for years, and there is not one feature that Acrobat has that PDF Converter can't handle. In addition, some people will moan about how slow the program is, but in reality, compared to Adobe's bloatware PDF Converter is a Formula One racer! If you haven't heard of Nuance, don't worry, they have been around for years, and this program is ridiculously cheap at under a $100 versus $300 for the "Standard" version of Acrobat 8 or 9. One thing that is not mentioned is that PDF Converter also converts PDF's to many popular formats (like Word), and you can edit them. Pretty cool. I did not have any problems with activation like some people have spoken about. The one thing I do recommend, if you use Vista, is to go to "System Properties" and under the "Settings", click on "Advanced" add the PDF Creator EXE file to the "Data Execution Protection" exclusion list, or the program will not fully integrate with IE, Firefox and MS Office. Once it is working properly, the DEP settings will revert to normal. This is a Vista problem, and NOT Nuance's fault. Good luck on your purchase - you won't be disappointed!

Technical support is nearly impossible to contact. All contact funneled to a non-responsive web site with dead phone number and non-functional email support. Email by pin then rejected by assigned user information and precluded web-site interchange. KB is basically empty for this product. Now to the product. I did not try the PDF creation tools. On the recovery side, it has very limited functionality. Some menus and functions simply do not work. Conversion is spotty and incomplete at best. Calling sales to get tech support put me in touch with a support person that responded to me by phone and then email after two days. I got no response to the broken web site or the lack of functionality other than to buy and try the the OmniPage 16 product for conversion. I loath to try another of this company's products since I spent money uselessly and when it failed to work as indicated or as promised and was basically told that a common PDF format (the US Patent office) was too complex for conversion, I should convert it through OCR instead, a different product. Yech!

Nuance's PDF Converter 5 product has some issues regarding the production of PDFs and the usability of PDF editing features on a Tablet PC. (1) My experience using this product after using PDF XChange and Tools is that the software is a bit more user freindly; however, numerous PDFs that were produced by PDF COnverter were not reabable on other PDF Readers without some sort of problems in the translation to PDF format. (2) PDF Converter is extremely slow to load and run. Do not recommend allowing it to override the use of Acrobat Reader. It has caused issues with not being able to load and view PDFs in MS IE 7.x (3) While I was specifically interested in the ability to annotate and highlight existing PDFs, mainly technical juried research papers, and PDF Converter has supposedly had the tools set to do this, the editing features were slow responding, crude especially on hand written notes on a Lenovo TablePC (X61 on Vista Business). It's ability to perform this type of task is extremely crude and slow in responsiveness. For those who wish to use a PDF utility in this capacity, I would recommend the use of Bluebeam Software's PDF Revu product which is much better at handling these tasks as well as being able to document CAD drawings. It is slow to bring up as well and has a somewhat different interface approach that Acrobat and PDF Converter; but, it performs very well when used for this capability. I also have not experienced the issues with people being able to read translated documents (into PDF format) that I experienced with the Nuance product.

This PDF package is user friendly and does everything that I need. It's a great value considering all it does compared to other well known PDF programs. The conversion from PDF to text is particularly easy to use and a real value added feature.

Got five copies for our company to replace Acrobat, and so far no complaints at all. This is not just a converter, it also allows you to create & edit PDF files plus much more. I especially like the compression options to cut down on file size. Overall very easy to use and does an excellent job.

I recently bought PDF Converter 5 after receiving a call from Nuance sales staff in which they assured me that two of the problems I was experiencing with PDF Converter 3 had been resolved: 1) PDF converter not properly switching during Print->Setup; needs multiple attempts to switchover 2) PDF converter changing my default printer settings It turns out that NEITHER of these behaviors has been corrected in v5; in fact the first problem seems to have become worse.

I got this for my work with the community association because Acrobat was too expensive. I loaded it and started using it immediately. I haven't done a lot, but if you can use Adobe Acrobat, you can sit down and start using this product.

As far as price goes, you can't beat this software for the value .... but if performance and editing capabilities are more important, go with Acrobat Pro. This software does have a few bells and whistles that Acrobat lacks, unfortunately they are not enough to sway the Acrobat expert away.
