1 of 5 Not happy Saturday, May 24, 2008
A Customer from Rochester, New York

Long term Systemsworks user and happily purchased 2008 Standard to replace 2007. Did not install on first try with message alerting Norton Anti Virus (older version) has to be un-installed. Did it then tried to install Systemworks 2008 Standard (again) which failed ending up with a direct to an on-line Norton support message advising to download and run a Symantec utility that removes all previous Norton products. Did it then had to restart several times during the install......took over an hour. After install I set up the scheduling for update, one button and full scan. No problem. However, now my computer hangs and has to be restarted often. Computer worked perfectly before Systemworks standard 2008. My advice is to Google this product for other reviews and you'll see my problem is wide spread. Overall recommendation....research this product before buying and installing. The quality and reliability of previous versions were much better. My lesson learned is not to expect the same reliability and performance from previous (software) products and to research on line before buying the newer version.

3 of 5 Not so good.... Friday, May 02, 2008
A Customer from Bartlett, IL
Slowed boot up time on laptop and overall performance. If I had a brand new laptop not a 2 year old one this would be fine. Not impressed but a little dissapointed. Got it off my computer and much happier. Doesnt have antivirus...... defeats the whole purpose. most of the tools come with windows like norton go back is windows restore point. but i will say norton does do a better job. the defrag takes forever. that can be found on windows. Overall I didnt get to dig deep into it because it slowed my computer down when starting up too much. maybe it was a bad install or just my luck with norton products. I would not recomend this because it really doesnt do much. Your PC is screwed anyway if you don't have antivirus software.

2 of 5 Poor tech support Monday, February 18, 2008
billnie50@hotmail.com from Fargo ND
I haven't used this product yet. I tried to moved an older version of systemworks from my main PC to an older PC to just do defragmenting and disk integrity checks. I contacted tech support who told me how to do it, but the process took two hours online and still didn't work. Don't count on being able to use the product on any machine other than the first one you install it to.

5 of 5 Wouldn't be without it! Monday, January 14, 2008
Mack from Gatesville, TX
I've been working with computers since 1983. I've used Norton SystemWorks just about ever since it first became available. I've tried McAfee but didn't like it near as well as I did Norton. Norton definitely keeps my computer safe, in good shape and running smoothly.

5 of 5 Needs work- big time Tuesday, January 01, 2008
J Cintron from New York NY
I bought the Systemworks thinking it was better than 360...bad news...360 had the ad-blocker and a firewall. This thing has no internet security whatsoever. If you are looking for something more friendly than 360, get a package deal from somewhere as this is missing the good stuff. Now my PC is quite unhappy, I will have to spend double to get what I already had.

4 of 5 dependable but not fast Saturday, December 15, 2007
Ursula from Jersey City NJ
The time needed for a complete scan seems to me more than in the past. But it was an easy installation and seems to work. I like especially the System Optimizer. The competitive rebate wasn't given despite sending in an original Cd of an earlier product. Even so is SystemWorks worth the price.

5 of 5 Still a good cleanup tool Thursday, November 29, 2007
Dennis from Kansas
I've used SW2004 since it came out and decided to go ahead and upgrade to SW2008 with the advent of Vista. This one works as well, although now they have the yearly subscription attached, much like Norton Internet Security & AntiVirus, don't know what's up with that. You can still run the utilities off the CD, so it works well for registry cleanup in my computer support business. As has been the case with Norton for quite a few years now, it uses significant resources to do it's thing, so I don't recommend it for older or slower machines. One final note, the automated one touch scan & repair is turned by default, I don't trust it to always make the right decisions, so consider re-configuring that, and if you don't screw with your system alot like I do, you could just turn it off and run WinDoctor manually once a month or so as a matter of good maintenance.

3 of 5 Problems Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Dave from Napa, CA
I have 2 different reviews, XP & Vista. All users beware! The install is a 2 step process. Click on the "Install Norton SystemWorks" on the install window, and it installs only SystemWorks. IT DOES NOT INSTALL THE ANTI-VIRUS PORTION! You have to do a second install, click on install Anti-virus. There will be many people that think they installed anti-virus-but in fact never did. There are 2 other problems that are not covered anywhere on line or in the user guide. Norton GoBack is available in XP, but not Vista--no where does it tell you that. Also, There are many veiled references to a firewall. It turns out that System Works does not in fact have a firewall installed. They call Trojan/worm protection a firewall. I am livid over this! I don't want the firewall, but they a lieing--it's not even a decent software firewall. If you try to find a place to configure it, say for a network, you'll never find it. Also in Anti-virus Protection center, (there are 2 interfaces, one for Anti-Virus, one for SystemWorks,) There is at the top under "Computer, Inbound Firewall," another reference to a non-existent firewall--turns out this one is checking the status of a router firewall. No documentation here either. Vista, under restricted user access, can't do live update, requires Admin privileges, and won't run. Can't change preferences either, same reason--laughable. 2 different interfaces, one for SystemWorks, one for Anti-Virus--Geeze, combine the two please. New interface since 2007 is horrible. Extremely difficult to find preferences or configure anything, sometimes 2-3 layers deep. Also, sometimes not where you would expect. XP-slows system noticably. Need more than PIV 2.8G. But runs ok. Also, if you have to restore the system for any reason, restore point or by using GoBack--it loses the activation date, and says the program updates have expired and rufuses to run. This has happend twice and extremely disappointed. Good news--it seems to still be better than McAfee--which is a sorry state indeed.
