Netgear MP101 Wireless Digital Music Player 802.11B - MP101NA

I've had the MP101 for a week or so - it works great once it is connected, and overall I'd say it's worth the money (especially after rebate). Works great with other music servers (TwonkyVision, in my case). Getting it connected to your wireless LAN can be a bit of a pain - it takes several minutes to reboot, and ofter finds duplicate wireless network SSIDs, only one of which will work. Entering a WEP key using the remote is *not* a fun task. Better to leave the thing on all the time and enable the screen saver to save yourself aggrevation. Tendency to skip when the server is doing any other hard disk work (like virus scanning) when streaming your tunes. Some easy things (well, easy for NETGEAR engineers anyway!) that NETGEAR can do to improve it (all of these are possible to change via firmware so they have no excuse): 1) Fix the duplicate SSID bug 2) Add an HTML configuration option (i.e., plug the thing into your network via Ethernet cable to configure it for wireless, then disconnect it and reboot - many WLAN products have this functionality).

I really didn't expect that much from it, but it was cheap. Figured there had to be a problem somewhere, it's a network device. Nope, not a hitch. I didn't do the wireless, wired only. I'll try that later. I got the current release of the software from Netgear's site. Installed without a hitch. Scanned the hard drive and had all the songs on a list by artist and album. Plugged in the device, found the server in seconds and was playing songs within a minute. Don't think I've ever purchased a computer product that actually worked this well. So easy. Not kidding this was actually fun.

I've been happy with this product. I listen to my music more now that my pc is connected to my home stereo. I connected it using a Cat5 cable (haven't tried the wireless). I configured my firewall (ZoneAlarm), installed the software, and started listening to my songs all over my house! It was easy to setup; it will scan your computer(s) automatically. I created playlists for different occasions so all I do is pick the appropriate list from the unit itself, not the pc. If i get tired of a song, i just delete it from my playlist. I don't waste time burning cd's anymore. I'm still copying all of my cd's to my pc, no need for a 400 disc changer anymore... It has a nice blue display (you can scroll through your songs even while it's playing). It's very easy to use and I've recommended it to my friends.

I purchased this at an amazing price and am even more amazed by how well it works. It did take a short while to setup because I have WAP, MAC address filtering, and an unbroadcasted SSID on my network, but I didn't mind. It was all worth it in the end. The software is a breeze to setup. The one feature that stands out, for me, is that it will automatically scan folders for additional music. Whenever I buy a new CD, I add the songs to my mp3 database with another piece of software (on another computer). I really like the fact that I can set it up to automatically scan the disk at 3 in the morning, while everyone is asleep, to update the database. I have a computer, that acts as a server and I just added this software to it (it is always on). Wireless workes great and I noticed, in my minor testing, that it has very good range. This product stands out from the rest!

Just plug and play this unit does all what it says and great price too. Does not support Wav and other formats.

The Netgear MP101 rocks! I decided to go with the wired setup, and installation was no problem.If your using a software firewall, like Zone Alarm, you must turn it off. I'm looking for a fix. The display is somewhat small. You really can't see it from across the room. Over all, I very satisfied with the MP101,and you can't beat the price.
