5 of 5 Quickest install Thursday, October 01, 2009 Shawn from Gloversville, NY
I was expecting trouble on this one since i am using it on my IMAC G5 but i couldn't be more wrong. i plugged it in and went to my computer to install the drivers but when i got to it-it was already working. I didn't need to use the CD. But i do have a problem running index.htm off the CD but that is a website problem not the gear,... Real good reception. Full bars 30-40 ft. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Install CD worked and RF performance is good Sunday, March 01, 2009 A Customer from Tampa, FL
I upgraded from a Netgear wired router and the install CD managed to migrate settings for everything except port forwarding and IP address assignment which I had to do manually.
RF performance is good, my laptop registers 100% signal strength in all indoor locations. PS3 only indicates 85% signal within same range. Was this review helpful?

The device works as expected. Although the set up CD doesn't work with Vista (64bit), you don't really need it in order to configure the router. Just bring up the router in your browser and voila! Setting it up was a snap. This is my second Netgear home router, an upgrade from a "B" class, I expect years of service from this one as well. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Awesome Router Wednesday, December 03, 2008 A Customer from Gloucester, VA
Wonderful product. Installation was a breeze. Speed, throughput, reliability and intuitiveness eclipse the Linksys that I discarded in favor of this router. Nothing but problems with the Linksys running a home network comprised entirely of macbooks and powerbooks. Now, I am back to purchase a second one as a Christmas gift.
For the price, you just can't beat this router. And all of my buy.com buying experiences have been a breeze. Was this review helpful?

I was very pleased with the installation process. It could not have been easier. I simply inserted the CD and followed the step by step instructions and in less than 10 minutes I was up and running. It's been running perfectly ever since. Buy.Com is always easy to work with. Was this review helpful?

Before, I had a D-Link router that would give us in and out signals. When I received the Netgear router, it was so easy to hook up and we haven't had a problem yet! Surfing the web has never been easier. Very reliable product! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Good Price! Friday, January 18, 2008 Haresh from Cranston, RI
Got this at a good price, had to compromise using WEP, as one of the older machines supports WEP and the new one supports WPA-PSK encryption method. Do not know if there is a way to use WPA for both machines. Good reach of signal. The warranty mentioned on the box is 1 year and not 3 years as mentioned in Buy.com Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to install & easy to use! Wednesday, January 16, 2008 Eric Zenk from Water Town, NY
This product is excellent. My brother-in-law (a computer guru) suggested I purchase this product. The ordering, delivery and installation was all too easy. If you know how to plug in a couple of cords to the back of your modem and the wireless router, (the instructions take you through these steps) and you know how to put a CD in your computer drive, you'll be all set. The router installation CD detects your computer's IP address etc so if you don't know how to do this manually, (another available option during the installation for advanced users) the CD will do it for you! The delivery took three days from the date it was ordered on-line and the installation only took 30 minutes. There were a couple of minor errors installing the router but with the "help" feature they were easily fixed. The signal strength of the router is excellent - my kids can access the web in the living room and order Wii games etc through the Wii, the wireless router is about 25 feet away in the laundry room - the signal easily goes through all three walls. A great product, I'd buy another if I had a larger home. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Avoid this Product Sunday, January 13, 2008 T Decker from Tampa, FL
I actually bought this product for a neighbor to install for them. They are not that Tech savvy. The price is reasonable, and the set-up was pretty easy, but the speed and coverage area/signal strength of this router is very poor. I am comparing to other wireless access products from D-Link and Linkssys that I have worked with in the past. There was always a significant delay in their system, and nothing I did made it any better. Finally after aobut six months of use, the router finally died and they went out and bought a new Linksys G router. A much better choice, and they are much happier now. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 I am basically satisfied with my NETGEAR Router. Friday, January 11, 2008 Dianne H Smithers from Louisville, KY 40223
I originally purchased a TRENTnet router at a local COMPusa. The router ended up being defective. COMPusa, who only had TRENTnet routers refused to exchange it for a working router. I tried to use the TRENTnet call-up helpline but was put on a 24 hour waitlist. I then remembered that I had just received my buy.com credit card in the mail. So I got online and ordered the NETGEAR router. I had recently purchased a NETGEAR product for another computer and although I only briefy used the computer, I was satisfied with the product. I only share this information so as to establish how I came to purchase the product. I did the initial desktop router hook-up configuation then contacted my ISP to verify that I had made a connection and to get my desktop computer back on line. It did take two tries to accomplish this. The ISP technical support representative told me that I would have to work with a NETGEAR representative to assist me with my wireless laptop. I was very surprised to get the a recorded telphone alert telling me that I needed to have my credit card nearby because there was a charge for this servie. This was extremely disappointing. I declined the call-up help and instead contaced friends and other people who have computers for information and was able to get the wireless laptop on line and my email working. It did take me several days longer. In the furture however, I will second think a NETGEAR purchase because I need help from time to time and I think that service should be provided. To date I am satisfied the the performance of the router, but I have only been using it for 5 days. But if I do have problems in the future the deal that I got on the price of the computer could be comprised by the fee for technical support. I am aware of the manual that can be accessed by inserting the disk as well as the online help, but keep in mind that when I needed them most I hadn't been able to get on line, plus going back and forth between the manual and the installation screen would sometime stop the installation process. 1 of 5 Bombs with WPA and Vista Wednesday, January 02, 2008 ssoulliere from detroit MI
Vista and this router combine to form a very nice couple of paper weights. It may be a problem with Vista, or it may be a problem with this router, but it will not work. I've replaced 3 of these already with D-Link, because computers with vista can not easily connect to this network after the first connection. DHCP will not work properly and will not connect even if you can actually catch your wireless connection before it disappears randomly. Works fine with XP. Garbage with Vista if you use WPA Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Netgear Wireless-G Router Tuesday, December 25, 2007 A Customer from Santa Rosa, CA
For some reason my computer was configured in a way to make my installation difficult. A call to the Tech Support solved it. I got a tech within a minute or two and they were very competent and courteous. When the problem could not be solved in a few minutes, I was transfered to a supervisor. I was very surprised and pleased with the quality of the support.
There was no problem with the Router, it was with Windows and was remedied. Was this review helpful?

I purchased this almost one year ago to the day. It has been working well until about a month ago. Now it looses connection
about 5 or 6 times a day. I loose connection on Both the wireless and the physical connection. I went back to my wired
D-link until I get a new wireless router. needless to say I will not be buying another Netgear. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Terrible support - totally disappointed !!! Friday, November 30, 2007 McFire from Chicago, IL
have this for over 3 months now and when it was working, was not the best, but acceptable for browsing internet ONLY. The moment you decide to watch divx movies form your network - you will experience constant drops and disconnects. Overall performance 2. One day Wi-Fi just stop working. After all online troubleshooting and upgrading the firmware still nothing. Few days after and 5+ hours reading forums I found out this is common for all Netgear 614 series. Called Netgear support requesting replacement - 2 hours on the phone fighting with broken English and not knowing what the problem is and finally was transferred to the manager - no help. He literally almost hang up on me when I said that I'm certified IT professional doing this for a living for a major corporation. Worst experience ever and I'm doing business with all brands their support at work. Nothing like this is known to the human race! I will stay away from Netgear at ALL cost. Two weeks after they received returned router - still nothing, not even email confirming that they have it. Total lost! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Netgear prooves to be good buy Thursday, September 27, 2007 A Customer from St. Petersburg, FL
After much research and reading of many reviews, I decided to go with this Netgear Router. Glad I did too, setup was completely easy and without a glitch. Always have a solid connection, never needing to reset my router or computer. And, for the money, well worth taking a chance on Netgear over other major brands, of which had more negetive reviews. Will consider netgear for future purchases. As far as my computer configuration, I installed on my desktop Windows XP and access with no problems from my Windows Vista 64 bit laptop. 1 of 5 Awful setup Tuesday, September 11, 2007 A Customer from New York, NY
I am quite upset with Netgear.
I wanted this product to replace my Linksys which had been serving me well for the past 3 years, and "upgrade" to NetGear. the box said it'd take 20 minutes to set up - WRONG. It took me nearly 2 1/2 hrs to set up. When I even called 1-888-NetGear they transfered me, hung up on me, and put me on hold more times than I can count. I ended up fixing the problem in a crude way.
The problem was the adapter didn't work, so I used my linksys temporarily. Also you need to have an ethernet cable plugged into your laptop to even run the set up, it's not just plug in and work, it won't even let you do that via a different wireless connection...dumb. Was this review helpful?

I had two options linksys and netgear. I went for netgear. I got in 3 days normal shipment. Had little problems with installation, since did not know the default userid and password. But the customer care was good, who instantly helped me to setup.
The speed is really good and since the size is small, does not take much space. Overall its value for your money.

No fancy bells/whistles, just a solid router that is easy to config and doesn't have problems once deployed. I have swapped out quite a few Linksys wireless routers for these Netgear routers. Linksys would often get slow or need to be power cycled, but not with Netgear. They just seem to run without problems... AND, they cost less than a Linksys! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Buy Thursday, June 21, 2007 scubagal_2 from Chicago, IL
This wireless router was very easy to set up. I am not a computer geek, so when I say easy, I mean very easy for the lay person. I may never go to my cramped office again since I can use my laptop all over my small home and my home is made out of brick. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Not the Linksys replacement I hoped Tuesday, June 12, 2007 MorganNY from Long Island, NY
I got this router because my linksys wouldn't enforce access restriction. I have that problem and more with this unit. makes profile changes for the restriction rule then takes a complete dump when I try to fix it. have had to hard reset 4x in 2 weeks.
Which is a shame, because I like this router better than the linksys. Much better options menu.. easy to use, easy to update firmware.. Just doesn't do what I needed or expected.. had the same problems as linksys and added a couple more. However, if you don't have kids or don't need access restrictions, It's a nice router. Nice form factor Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great router, super price, difficult set-up Friday, April 13, 2007 A Customer from Miami, FL
This is a great router after you get it set up. Price is really good. Totally happy with this as I can now roam around house, and even out on the patio, with my notebook PC connected while my desktop is connected, and my daughter's notebook is connected. Only difficulty was following the guided set up instructions on the set-up CD that came with the router. For whatever reason, these instructions fail to mention that you need to register the product on netgear's home page before you can get a password that you need to log into a separate site called www.routerlogin.com which you need to connect to. Only by calling tech support at netear and spending 35 minutes on phone with a nice lady in India was I able to fianally connect. She walked my through the manual set-up which is the way to go. Owning an older Netgear 802.11b router (which I am connected to right this minute) I decided to upgrade to this model. Two days ago, after four weeks of flawless use, it decided to stop connecting to my computers via wireless; constantly losing signal. 2.0 hours on support calls I finally have an RMA. Hope the next one lasts longer. Maybe just hit or miss? At least the 4 year old router works! Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 unstable at best Sunday, March 25, 2007 Ryan from FL
Sadly, I have been headstrong on Netgear products for the past 5 years. My first router was great, my upgrade, the one I am reviewing, is not. Consistently drops the wireless connection and I have not found any fix and no firmware is available above the version I have. Your money is better spent on something else, and I hate to admit that I made a mistake. Was this review helpful? Click here to see all 121 reviews
