| | | Julianne fell in love with her best friend the day he decided to marry someone else. Features: DVD, Special Edition, Widescreen, Aspect Ratio 2.35:1, Dolby Digital (5.1), Dolby Surround Sound, English Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett star in My Best Friend's Wedding, a high-spirited, romantic comedy that serves up something wild, something new, something touching and something truly hilarious. Roberts dazzles as commitment-shy Jules Potter, who reluctantly realizes she is in love with her best friend (Mulroney). There's just one catch: he's about to marry someone else. Comically crazed and full of devious plans, Jules will do anything to steal him back... except tell him the simple truth. "An enchanting romantic comedy. The entire cast is smashing."--Gene Shalit, Today Show "...enchanting romantic comedy." Gene Shalit, Today Show "Delightful and surprising..." David Ansen, Newsweek "Julia Roberts...dazzles again." USA Today
 Editor's Note
When Julianne made a deal with her best friend Michael to marry each other if, by the ripe old age of 28, they had not yet found their true love, she never really doubted it would come to pass. But jealousy rears its ugly head when she discovers he's engaged to another woman, and, what's more, that she's perfect for him. What's a jilted bride-to-be to do? A hijinx-filled romantic caper. Academy Award Nomination: Best Original Musical or Comedy Score.

| | Professional Reviews | Sight and Sound "...[Diaz and Roberts] are extremely engaging....Rupert Everett beautifully plays the role of George..." 09/01/1997 p.50-1USA Today "...[Roberts] dazzles again..." 06/20/1997 p.4D Entertainment Weekly "...Roberts is the right star for it...She has the blend of radiance and agility..." 06/20/1997 p.40-1 Chicago Sun-Times "...One of the pleasure of Ronald Bass' screenplay is the way it subverts the usual comic formulas....Roberts, Diaz and Mulroney are in good synch..." 06/20/1997 p.33 ReelViews 6 of 10 Fortunately, this film doesn't fall into the overcrowded category of the traditional frothy romance. In fact, My Best Friend's Wedding has a bit of an edge and enough intelligence to keep it from drowning in the kind of mawkish sentimentality that often makes this sort of movie hard-to-swallow... Because My Best Friend's Wedding features a smart script and deft direction, it manages to keep alive the mystery of who will end up with whom. Things aren't as clear-cut as they initially seem to be, and, with every passing minute, they get murkier. The film has a high energy level and features a number of standout scenes, some of which are designed to cull laughter from the audience, others which go for the tearducts. The best is arguably a restaurant episode where an impromptu sing-along gets everyone in the place to join in. It's clever, irreverent, and fun. - James Berardinelli San Francisco Chronicle 6 of 10 [Roberts] is at her vibrant best -- a pretty woman again instead of the pale imitation... There is an actor who is every bit a match for Roberts -- Rupert Everett, playing Julianne's editor and confidant, George. When they dance together or conspire together or do anything together, it's magic. - Ruthe Stein
