5 of 5 Hangs have stopped Monday, March 03, 2008 A Customer from Herndon, VA
My old DOCSIS 1.1 modem was hanging daily. I suspect that Cox wasn't being very good about supporting this older protocol.
Pulled the old modem, did an online text session with a Cox technical rep to enter the new Mac ID into their system, and the SB5120 came online without any additional setup.
My usual web page loads seem to be a little slower, but I don't have any hard metrics to verify that. Was this review helpful?

Simple, plug in, it works. No problems with speed on Cox basic budget internet service.
Good price, fast shipping - better deal than provider offering.

5 of 5 Fast, Easy to Insall & a Good Price Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Kollman from Lawrence, KS
Motorola has made a great cable modem that is a real work horse. You just plug it in and with in a few seconds everything is working. I have the normal wireless setup hooked to this Surfboard box and it performs flawlessly everyday with my Tivo and two other computers talking to it all day.
If you want and easy to install unit that will just work and you can forget about it, then get the Motorola Surfboard. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Modem works well Thursday, May 10, 2007 Amos from Edina, Mn
I have been using this modem for about 2 weeks now and haven't noticed a single problem. Speeds are quick and setup of the modem itself was easy. Your milage may vary as your cable provider may make set up simple or difficult. I did a self install from Comcast and I spent roughly 1.5 hours on the phone but once it was working it hasn't had a single problem. I would highly recomend this modem cause its quick and comes from a reliable vendor. Was this review helpful?

I have Cox Cable, here in Irvine. Once I got cox to add my modem's MAC address to the network, it instantly started working and I noticed an increase in speed over my last modem (also a motorola, but only DOCSIS 1.1 compliant). Also, my connection hasn't dropped since I installed it. My old modem was dropping more and more frequently, requiring me to reset it every couple days.
DOCSIS 2.0 is pretty much required these days as cable modem companies upgrade their networks, and the sb5120 has it.
A great product! Has not let me down yet... Was this review helpful?
