Logitech X-240 iPod Speaker System - 970285-0403 - Amazing Deal!

I've owned these speakers for well over a year now and I've come to notice the small things that annoyed me about these speakers despite being pretty good quality. The first thing I hate about these speakers is, as many others mentioned, the constant hum while the speakers are not in use. Because of this, whenever I went to sleep, I had to turn the speakers off so they wouldn't bother me. The second thing I didn't like is the design. First, I wish the dock had a little more weight to it because it would easily flip over even with the ipod on if one of the cables was slightly yanked. Second, there are cables everywhere, which is expected of these speakers with the addition of the dock BUT the annoying thing is that most of the cables are Not detachable from the subwoofer (maybe since the power and volume control are on that). This means that once you have the speakers set up nicely so that the cables go behind your desk to the subwoofer on the floor, you probably don't want to move them. Since I'm in college, there were times I wanted to takes these speakers to the dorms and back home but that didn't really happen and eventually it just ended up staying at home because it was such a pain to set up and break down. Other than all those things, the sound quality is good for the price. The bass is great and has good adjustability. These speakers can get pretty loud but they start crackling at really high volumes and the background noise increases accordingly. Anyways I feel like I'm giving the impression that I hate these speakers but I don't. If you don't plan on moving them from place to place then these speakers aren't bad at all.

Best value for money. The x-240 we used to get 1 year back were the best...but these are great as well. I have bought 4 pairs of these speakers in the last 3 years (not all for myself :)) and they are very reliable. If you are all about Bass, these speakers are the best for the money you are paying.

I bought these speakers to replace my old Logitechs that I had for about 12 years. They do an excellent job and put out more sound than my larger stereo speakers. My only regret is that I didn't buy them sooner.For the money they can't be beat. There is a slight hum, but if you turn down the volume you can't hear it.

Good speakers for the price, the only problem I have with them is that when they are on and not being used, the hum can be quite annoying. Other than that they are great.

I originally bought this speaker set for my son. They sounded so good hooked up to his computer that when my speakers quit working, there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to buy the same ones for myself. They are small,which is great for someone with limited desk space but have a great sound to them. I would recommend these to anyone.

Good sound for the price. The setup is a little awkward -- I expected to just plug my ipod into a dock, and found that the stand requires you to use your own charging cord if you don't want to run on battery, and has a cord that plug in at the headphone port. It balanced a little precariously on the cheesey little plastic stand. I like it a lot, though, and would buy it again, expecially for office use.

It can't get better than this for what I paid for these speakers at buy.com! Driven by a Sound Blaster Live card, they produce a beautiful, enveloping, rich sound! Perfect for my office at home! Highly recommend!

I bought these speakers for the kid’s computer and they work great. The only thing I thought was a little funky is the slide out tray the iPod is supposed to sit on. The iPod kept falling off. Best thing is to connect the iPod and just set it on the table. Other than that it’s easy to set up and it sounds great.

This speaker system is just great for the price.No problem with sound system.But the problem is i didn't see anything about ipod docking system.There is nothing that i can put my ipod in.

If you want quality speakers for a low price these are what you want. Just don't expect a powerful performance. At high volume the quality is diminished. But if you want good quality sound without taking up a lot of space these are as good as it gets.

I purchased this as the primary sound system for my desktop with the idea of being able to hook my MP3 player to it. It works well with the MP3 and desktop in terms of ease of hookup and use but if you want to spread the speakers apart more then three feet forget it. The wiring included is very short and limits the speakers to only a couple feet apart. I went to Radio Shack and bought a 6 foot 3.5mm stereo extention wire which allowed me to separate the desktop speakers to where I wanted which really made the left and right channels stand out more... Instead of the sound directly in my face, now it's spread out and sounds really good. System offers fair bass reproduction in a 15x15 room. I would recommend this system based on the low cost to purchase and decent sound quality if you buy a extention wire to separate the left and right channels.

First, I bought these over another model because the ipod feature that is not as advertised. There is no usb hookup so let me tell you how this actually works. You pull out a flimsy piece of plastic on unnecessarily large volume controller, put your own iPod usb cable through the bottom and plug it in to your computer. Then you use a mini-mini audio cable to plug the ipod into the controller. It's cheap and deceptively advertised. It's easier to plug your ipod into your computer using your own usb and play your songs through iTunes while your computer is hooked up to the speakers. Sound quality? 2.5 out of 5. It's exactly what I would expect from a system costing $25, but sadly, I wasted almost twice that on this mediocre system. The one good thing, the strong sub woofer that is turned way down to avoid conflict with the neighbors. BOTTOM LINE, forget the iPod thing and save yourself money, or spend a little more and buy quality.

Seem like pretty decent speakers for the price. A little annoying they have to be manually turned on each time and no sound comes out if they're off. Kinda prefer my old even less expensive speakers which always gave some sound and amplified sound if I needed to really turn it up for music or a game. They maintain a low hum when idle but less than my old speakers. Overall pleased with these speakers though.

I bought these speakers to use with my IPod in my classroom. Although school hasn't started up again yet, I've tried out the speakers at home and the sound is excellent and plenty loud enough to be heard in a large room. It was simple to set up and the wiring is long enough to be able to spread the speakers out nicely. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

I have these speakers set up in my room without any computer conected. Don't listen to the person who gave 1 out of 5. These speakers work great with my zune 80gb.

The logitech 240 iPod speaker system is a great buy!!! I bought these off of buy.com and it was fast shipping for free. I have these speakers setup in my room, they work great. They are very loud, my sister said she could here them outside from the driveway(I am on the second floor), they were only on about half volume!!!! The two speakers are great because you can spread them out and it is like surround sound. The two things, and only two things, that I would change is have it so I could charge my Zune mp3 player while it was sitting on the control thing. And I would reduce the amount of cords, which are not a problem for me because I could hide them behind my bed. What i am going to do is get a wall charger so i can charge and play. Overall these are great speakers for a great price. I would definitely rewcommend this item to a friend.

Overall good sound quality and the ability to have the volume controls and an audio in/ headphones out on the desktop is usefull. The price wasn't too bad when I bought also (had a rebate also at that time).

Great value! Received my speakers today and they are a lot more powerful than they appear. I plugged them into my iPod Touch and the sound is insane for a very small system. There is one downside, they could have made the wires a little more inconspicuous.

I have been looking passivley for some time to upgrade my computer speakers. Even without it being a priortiy purchase I found the logitech X 240 to be so affordable I could not resist, since recieving them I am very happy with the sound quality, it has made a big differce to my desktop. there is not enough power to blast, but good enough and pleasant to listen to.

I brought these speakers 1st for myself. They had superior sound quality on my computer system. My sister saw & wanted one for hers, so I ordered it. They didn't work on her desktop but worked just fine on her laptop & even her TV. My advise to anyone buying, make sure that your system is compatible with the speakers

I use this speaker system everyday to play songs off the Internet from my computer and I think the sound is very good. I placed the unit on top of the China Cabinet in the dining room and I can hear this unit throught the first floor with good deep base. The base unit has its own volume control so you can control the base independently.

I'm very please with these speakers. For the price you can't bet the value on this speaker system. I replaced my old computer speakers with these and I was very very impressed with the sounds it created. The subwoofer made a world of listening difference. It makes listening to iTune so much more enjoyable but when I plug in my iPod to it, it's even better...the subwoofer bass and two little speakers are awesome. It's almost better than my expensive wall stereo system...If you're looking to improve the sound/music quality from your computer and iPod, don't pass this deal by...

The speakers work very well, and at first glance the price seems great. On the downside the photo is kind of deceptive, it looks like you just hook you iPod up to the stand and you are ready to roll. The photo doesn't show all of the wires that need to be hooked up to the stand and iPod. And, if you need to charge your iPod you still need to buy a charger.I would have paid more if this had the ability to charge my iPod.

When I buy something online for a substantially low price, I always cringe a little, thinking I am making a mistake. This purchase however, was a great deal and I am so pleased with these speakers as a desktop sound system. I highly recommend this logitech product!

I was pleasantly surprised by the size of this speaker system. It is very small which is nice on a desk with limited space. The set-up was easy and only took about five minutes. The iPod connection is a very nice feature too. For a simple system with good sound, this is the perfect product.

For my purposes this purchase has been ideal. I mounted the four components on a 12X24 piece of Starboard and put handles on each end and it is great to move to the pool, the dock, the deck, or wherever needed. The sound quality is certainly acceptable for my application. After the rebate, I have hardly any money invested in the equipment and the return I am getting is great. Friends and neighbors are questioning me a lot about were it came from and how much it cost. I tell them nothing! As a matter of fact, I ordered a second unit for a spare or to take to another property we have. The Ipod is all I will need to carry with me.

Good quality sound for the price. The mp3 dock is pretty silly, and I wouldn't buy this product based on that. However, it does give you a direct audio jack that you can plug your real mp3 dock into without having to go through your computer.

The information about this product, even on the Logitech website is misleading. I had the impression that the Ipod can be connected directly to this device so that it can be charged and controlled from it. It actually doesn't. This is to be used with a computer, not as stand alone system. I wanted to return it, but actually it was not worth paying for shipping.

Sound quality is not great but ok .. Audio does not sound digital specially if i attach it to computer but little better when attached to Ipod but which sounds was little better. Arrangement for Ipod not really convinient and does not have charger. They could have thought abt better cradle. My review may be little prejudice as i like to hear music at High volume. I will only buy it for price.

I wanted something for the office to hook up to any mp3 or portable device...it's not state of the art but it is good for the purpose and very inexpensive...I recommend it with limitations for some applications...

I was pleasantly surprised when these arrived - very nice quality for the money. I immediately removed my big outdated stereo system and hooked these up, plugged in my iPod and was surprised at the sound quality - very good! I would definitely recommend these speakers!

Bought this unit for some music in the kitchen while I cook. Just pop in the MP3 player and away it goes. Perfect sound for a small room or outside by the pool. Don't expect concert style surround sound from this little thing but it sounds great in a small area like I said. For the price it was just what I needed.

You shouldn't be an audiophile while reviewing an X-240. Know that you are paying peanuts and you are getting much more than your money's worth! I was kind of confused after I had placed the order when I saw the Bose two speaker set up for computers; the confusion compounded what with it being. But hey, after I hooked up my X-240 within less than 5 minutes (no jokes) it was pure fun and a little magic. The bass response is pretty neat and you get tight bass. I am not saying any different from what others have said, but if you are looking at a good set up for an obscenely cheap price go for it. You will not regret. I have reserved Bose for my HDTV :)

I just got this pair last night and i fixed it with my laptop.I wa amazed to hear the bass and the crystal clear sound. It is definitely worth the money i spent. May not have equializer or other music settings but its definitely worth if you are looking for a decent system for your computer or iPod

I hooked up the speaker system, and it worked beautifully. I LOVED IT! But on the 3rd day it just quit. No hardware changes had been made. I looked for a short and re-seated all connections. Nothing helped. As a test, I hooked up my OLD speakers & subwoofer - and they worked fine. So now I have to call Logetech tech support and jump through the whole "return and replace" hoop. I am not looking forward to it - and it is THIS part of the "online buying" process that makes me wish I could afford to just pay full price and buy off the shelf.... cdavis@kiefner.com

I got the package in 2 days. Took me longer to unpack the box than it did to set up the speakers. I'm not an audio-phile, so these speakers are perfect for me. I actually plan on using them in various rooms of my house w/ my Ipod hooked-up, or even outside doing yard-work. Certainly sounds better than my 7-year-old computer speakers I have now.
