3 of 5 Unit is not powered by AC adapter Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Beware that unit is not powered by AC Adapter. It's powered by the USB connection to the PC. This is nice, but it limits ways you can use the thing.

5 of 5 Works Great with Tivo 2 v7.2 Monday, November 21, 2005
Rick from Trabuco Canyon, CA
Installed flawlessly with my Tivo and Linksys WAPR - Tivo walked me right through the setup. Be sure you have all your router information available (WEP Code, Router Address, etc.). I have an excellent connection (95% strength per Tivo) from my upstairs office WAPR to my entertainment center in the downstairs family room. Now I no longer have the phone cord (it was exposed to the room). On top of that I can listen/view my iTunes and iPhoto on my television/stereo system (via Galleon since Tivo Mac software does not yet support OSX 10.4.x). And now the best part is the price after rebate ($9.99). Love it when a plan comes together!

4 of 5 TiVo happy Tuesday, November 08, 2005
A Customer from San Diego, CA
Bought this to work with a TiVo Series 2 box. I was surprised how well it works and would recommend this to anyone. The only downside is it a B-WiFi, but that is what TiVo limits you to. It was hard to find other USB connections that work with TiVo. The setup is TiVo simple.

5 of 5 Linksys rules Monday, October 31, 2005
mariamadhu from San Jose, CA
I bought a linksys 802.11b wireless router couple months back. And I used other products as my wireless adapter for my PC running windows 2000. I used to get lots of connection drops and I had to rerun the bulk downloads all over again. I read the reviews for the linksys USB adapter and I gave it a try as it didnt cost much. I should say, Linksys rules !. I didnt see even a single connection drop for more than 2 weeks now. And it is almost a plug and play. I just had to write my wireless security phrase and am all set. Hightly recommended !

5 of 5 Works flawlessly with my TiVo Saturday, October 29, 2005
A Customer from MA
My TiVo Series 2 detected this unit (version 2.6) immediately when I plugged it into the USB port. It works flawlessly with my DLink DI-524 wireless router. Make sure to check the TiVo support site (http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv2184.htm?) for compatibility with your TiVo unit.

5 of 5 Convenient & easy to use Thursday, October 27, 2005
Sa from Columbia, SC
I have had this wireless USB device on my machine running Win98SE for over 3 years now without a problem. I have now moved up in the world and have purchased a new XP machine. I don't want to change my working wireless set up so I am purchasing another USB unit. It is also handy for visiting family to access my network via their laptops. I would like to add that while the wait may be long, the tech support at Linksys is great. In the past when I had problems they were answered. Sometimes patience is a virtue, just get a headset for your phone and play a video game while you wait.

5 of 5 Works Perfect Tuesday, August 30, 2005
Jim from Minnesota
It took less than 10 minutes to set it up and it works very well at about 80 feet through 4 walls. The signal is good on both ends. I'm new to wireless networking, so if I can make it work, anyone can. The price after rebate is great too.

5 of 5 Works great with TiVo! Thursday, November 11, 2004
Kincaid from Marietta, GA
We got the Linksys WUSB11 so that our TiVo could use our home network, and we love it! Our TiVo is not setup near a phone jack, so the WUSB11 was an obvious choice. It works well with our DLink router - I would recommend it to any TiVo owner with a wireless network.

5 of 5 Great Budget Wireless Sunday, October 10, 2004
hebflyer from Westfield, IN
Having used this adapter for several weeks, I am more impressed with its performance each day. I maintaine a steady "excellent" signal and have never had a problem staying connected to Verizons system. Rock steady from day one, and no more setup than plugging into the USB port and waiting a couple of minutes for XP to respond. Great value for the $$$$.

5 of 5 WUSB11 - easy install, great performance Wednesday, July 21, 2004
Joe from Cheshire, CT
I installed the WUSB11 on a desktop PC running Windows XP. It was a very simple process. I used the install CD and followed the onscreen instructions. Signal strength and throughput are great. I was also surprised by the small size of the device, the product photos on Buy.com made it look much larger. It works just as well as my wired PC!

5 of 5 Works great with Tivo Home Media Option Wednesday, September 17, 2003
A Customer from Chicago, IL
This is the only Wireless adapter officially supported for use with Tivo Series 2 with Home Media Option. I have had no problems with the device, there was zero device setup since Tivo handles configuration, and I get a constant 90% signal strength through 3 walls, approximately 30 ft away. Signal strength varies greatly based on minor adjustments in position and orientation, but this is true with most stationary wireless devices as well as access points. As far as a previous reviewer trying to connect two PCs across buildings 150 ft apart, you would be better off using two Linksys WAP11s as a bridge. The antenna on them is suited for broadcasting powerful signals, whereas this device is suited for use within the range of an existing central access point.

4 of 5 Has worked well with TiVo's Thursday, August 14, 2003
Jim Mace from Bellaire, TX
I purchased two of these to work with my 2 TiVo's, which now have wireless support. I have a Linksys 4port wired/wireless router/hub. I tried these out in my computers successfully before I hooked to my TiVo's. Two things to look out for if you are wanting to use these with TiVo: 1) Make sure you get a version 2.6 2) Be aware that the USB cable is unidirectional. If you plug it in one way, it will work fine, and the other, you will get a power light, but no link light. It is not easy to tell which is which, so if you have problems, swap the cable ends. I have had pretty good success with these. I get a 85% signal from about 20 feet away and through one wall with one of them. I get about a 60% signal from 35 feet away through 2 walls.

5 of 5 I wish everything worked like this Thursday, July 31, 2003
K. Coleman from Lake Charles, LA
I've been using a wireless network for several months with my desktop plugged into the BEFW11S4 wireless access point, and my laptop fitted with the linksys pcmcia wireless network card. I bought this USB unit to add my daughter's desktop to the home network. I plugged the USB cable into the tower, and Windows XP immediately recognized new hardware, asking for the cd. After putting the cd in, it was installed in just a matter of seconds. Then, I followed the network wizard, and then had access to my main desktop, about 75 feet away. The connection speed and quality was rated excellent by the icon in the system tray. I downloaded a 59 MB file from www.hp.com in about 10 minutes, with the final download speed at 104 KB/second. I then sent that file to my desktop computer in less than 3 minutes. The version I installed was 2.6. I understand there were some big problems with early versions.

5 of 5 Good Performance Saturday, June 14, 2003
A Customer from Novato, CA
Set up was simple. Installation instructions were easy to follow but stopped short of setting up the network setting on the machine (funny, since the instructions with the router went through all that). But, signal is very good (through 2 exterior walls and 6 internal walls). Apparently required a software update for the drivers since it worked better after downloading them from Linksys web site (site could be a little clearer about what updates are really required). But, this little goodie made setting up my home network MUCH simpler. I knocked down the "Value" and "Ease of Use" because it was a bit more expensive than I'd like and the setup was missing the machine network settings. Otherwise, very happy with the purchase.

5 of 5 Works with 98, ME & XP Saturday, March 08, 2003
M Call from PA
I recently installed 6 of these at a college house for use with the Linksys wireless router. Installation was flawless. Client machines included Windows 98, ME and XP(HE). I didn't need to open up a single machine. Just disable any installed PCI Network cards through Windows. (If you buy a used one, make sure it is hardware V2 or better, improved)

4 of 5 There is hope for XP users who experience problems Friday, February 28, 2003
Dave M. from Morgan Hill, Ca
Windows does not detect your new Linksys USB adaptor? Like one of the other reviewers, I too had some installation hassle so I did a little research on the MS support website. Low and behold, there is a solution to this problem, though it could be a bit time consuming to fix, as you'll have to download the free 25MB Windows Service Pack 1a (Released 2/3/03). The problem lies with the OHCI controller. For some darn reason the USB adaptor may put the OHCI controller in a suspended state. In English: XP will not always detect new USB devices, thus a fix is needed. To find out more about this problem, access the Microsoft Support web page (www.support.microsoft.com) and in the "Search the Knowledge Base" box, type: Q314634 (the Knowledge Base article number). After installing the service kit which is, for the most part, a snap to do, Windows XP should automatically detect your wireless USB adaptor. This will also allow the installation software to install the needed drivers.

5 of 5 It's too easy! Wednesday, September 18, 2002
David Hunt from Albuquerque, NM
This thing worked perfectly within seconds of connecting it to the PC! Not one bit of trouble with it - and the PC it's connected to is allowing another PC to share the connection! This has to have been the easiest network connection I have ever set up.

5 of 5 Linksys Wireless Adapter is Terrific! Friday, August 30, 2002
jillfeig from San Antonio, TX
My husband and I just bought a Linksys USB wireless adapter and a Linksys wireless cable modem router, to make a home "network" out of our two PCs. Both items were very easy to install with the accompanying software and work very well! The adapter is so small that it doesn't clutter the work station. Also, you don't have to install it into your hard drive like a NIC -simply plug into a USB port! Being a first time "networker" I did have to call the Linksys customer support line to help me select the correct operating mode for the adapter(infrastructure), which wasn't that obvious from the instructions. The customer support staff was very informed and helpful, & the wait was tolerable. I highly recommend this product!

5 of 5 Zero Configuration must be enabled on XP Thursday, August 22, 2002
James from Atlanta, GA
By default on XP professional Zero Configuration is disabled. This apparently has to be enabled to get the WUSB11 device to work on XP. Discovered this after a 45 minute technical support call (great cust service), hopefully this will save you some time...To enable Zero Configuration right click on My Computer, select Manage, select services, find the zero configuration service and change the status to automatic, reboot.

5 of 5 Wireless Security Wednesday, August 21, 2002
Mike from Seattle, WA
Just because Shields Up tested your network to be "secure" doesn't mean it is. All that means is that your gateway device isn't passing port-scanning traffic into the network to the machine that is accessing the Sheilds Up site. Futhermore 802.11b is not very secure even with 128bit enabled. Do not kid yourself about it being secure. Every packet transmitted between the wireless adapters and access points is readable with minimal effort by a knowledgeable individual. Also, without your wireless network configured properly your neighbor could be surfing the net or your network without your knowledge... something to keep in mind. I have wireless and have been pleased with the performance.

5 of 5 Very Impressed Monday, August 12, 2002
apsimm from Cincinnati, OH
I was somewhat skeptical about this when I bought it. However, I figured I would give it a try since I really didn't feel comfortable opening up the case on my desktop, let alone running wires through my walls. I installed the USB wireless adaptor on an old desktop that I put in our kitchen. Its about 20 feet away and 1 floor above the Linksys access point in my basement. Running Windows XP all I did was drop the CD in and follow the onscreen instructions. Recognized the network on its own. Whole process took less than ten minutes and I'm getting great signal strength. Also, I was very impressed that this unit gets all the power it needs through the USB port. There is no AC adaptor or power supply needed. No complainsts about this whatsoever.

5 of 5 It was a snap! Wednesday, July 10, 2002
A Customer from Manchester, N.H.
I'm running XP on a new Dell. It took about 2 1/2 minutes from plugging in the USB cable to loading the driver and, bam!, my existing Linksys network was recognized in the connection box. To improve signal strength to the Linksys router/access point over 200 feet away in another room, I moved this little adapter to the top of my monitor. Easy street all the way.

5 of 5 Best product ever Friday, May 24, 2002
A Customer from Dallas TX
I took it out of the box and literally the network connection was up in 5 minutes, I plugged it in on XP and popped the CD in it installed the drivers and it was jamming. Surfed the net from the moment it was up took it down the street and it still ran like a champ....couldn't believe it ran so well and for $70 dollars not much more than a network card in price and my fiance didn't have to freak when I broke out the drill and hole saw to run cables.

5 of 5 Works Great, trickey Install with XP Friday, May 03, 2002
Steven from Seattle, WA
I bought 3 Linksys 802.11b wireless products, router, PCI card and this USB adapter (WUSB11 ver. 2.5). Installed the router, then the WUSB11 on my Win98 SE system and the WUSB11 worked like a champ, had it up in <5 minutes. Then I upgraded my PC to XP, and I could not connect to the router - tried to upgrade the PC drivers from website (I then realized that this is not necessary, XP drivers come with version 2.5) - the WUSB11 still didn't work. Finaly I just plain uninstalled all drivers for the WUSB11 and restarted the PC. When I re-installed the drivers again it worked great and has worked fine since.

5 of 5 Easy setup, good performance. Tuesday, April 30, 2002
Neal from Detroit Area, MI
I originally bought a D-Link DWL-520 to put in an old Win2k computer, and found that it is not backwards compatible to PCI 2.1, so then I bought this WUSB11v2.5. I have never liked USB as an interface (seems flaky compared to a real PCI card), but I had heard so many good things about the new version (version 2.5) of this device, that I decided to give it a try. Very easy setup, decent range, and good throughput. I was very impressed. I thought that perhaps because the motherboard of the machine I was instlling it on was so old, that I could have a problem - not so. Installation was smooth, and took less than 5 minutes. After that, all I had to do was put the unit's MAC address (conveniently printed on the bottom) into my wireless router's allowed list, and enter the WEP key into the linksys configuration utility (which unlike that of some other brands, actually WORKS). Now that PC has a wireless connection that is just as good as wired for sharing Internet access. As a side note, MAKE SURE YOU GET VERSION 2.5 OF THIS CARD - I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS ABOUT VERSION 2.5, AND NOTHING BUT BAD THINGS ABOUT VERSION 1 AND 2 - the product pictured on buy.com's website is version 2.5 (note the retractable antenna), so I assume that is what they are selling. Very impressive product at a reasonable price. Recommended!

5 of 5 Great Customer Service Monday, April 29, 2002
Eric from New York
I had purchased a Linksys router before and had a great experience with their technical service back then so I figured when I went looking for a wireless network router why not go with Linksys again. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! I tried to do it myself at first....as usual I had some trouble getting it set-up so without blinking an eye I called Linksys Tech Support.....Within no time, and it was even tricky for them, they had me up and running.....I have wired and wireless internet connection now and I swear it seems like the wireless is faster most of the time.....Great Product.....Even better service....again!!!

5 of 5 wow.... this is amazing Friday, April 26, 2002
jesmondlau from edmond, oklahoma
I bought a whole set of Lnksys wireless netowrking, from router to pc card to replace my existing networking(wire). I was expected myself to call the customer service and ready to spend at least half a day to configure the entire networking(because i read some of those negative feedback, stated their problem and time that needed to set up) guess what, i spent about 3 minutes for wireless router(i unplug the old one and plug this new router and restar the computers, wow..they are connected(with wired). then i spend another 5 minutes for this wireless PC card on my laptop, installed the driver and then restart my laptop(plugin pc card) before restart. wow again... it is connected, 50 feets from the router(upstair).... connectiing with maximum speed. and then i spent another 5 minutes for other desktop, samething, installed the driver first and plug USB Network adaptor and restart.... I WAS SO SURPRISED AND HOW THIS WORK OUT, ..THEY ARE CONNECTING.... I AM SO HAPPY. LINKSYS YOU ARE THE BEST

A Customer from Trenton, OH
Linksys began shipping a new version, 2.5 (and is shown above) early this year. It has new firmware and drivers. I have tested it with W2000, 98, and XP - worked fine on all. This is a much nicer product than the prev version and appears to have resolved all the prev issues...

5 of 5 It does work well with XP but------ Monday, March 18, 2002
Gordon from Maryville, TN
Someone rated this item 1 of 5 with USB Adaptor -used with Windows XP(?)I downloaded the XP drivers installed them according to the instructions and plugged in the adapter to a USB port on my new PC with a USB keyboard and it didn't work! On the advice of a Linksys Tech, I plugged the adapter into the back of the PC and it's worked great since! The wireless network also seems to give me really good Internet security based on the "Shield-Up" tests I ran. So my advice is to try another port if you have problems!

4 of 5 Works great Thursday, March 14, 2002
Kiko from Pittsburgh PA
The installation was painless. I followed the instructions to the letter: loaded the software, rebooted the computer, plugged the USB cable and a couple of clicks later it was connected to the wireless hub. There are three walls between the router and this device... about 40 ft from the hub to the adapter. The signal is about 66% strong. It took me 40 minutes to install the wireless hub and this, because I took my time reading the instructions!!! I am very pleased with the results.

3 of 5 WUSB11 Install Friday, February 22, 2002
4scharf from Maple Grove MN
I recently installed two WUSB11's into PC's that are located in different buildings approx. 135 feet from each other. They only share files, not an Internet connection. I placed the USB's near windows and have "Line of Sight". The install is so easy - load drivers, plug in USB, configure to the same channel. Since I didn't use a WAP I had to install the NetBEUI protocol which may be a bit noisy, but works OK in this environment. A signal strength test at 10 feet was 90% with 11MPS and at the full 135 feet through two windows was approx. 15% at 11MPS. While not the best signal, it works very well transferring files between machines. I was very surprised at this. I did try to call LinkSys twice and reseived a message that the normal wait time was 26 minutes - hung up after being on hold for 1 hour each time. I realize it was a Saturday morning and they could be busy, but I can get a live person at SohoWare in 2 minutes anytime. Overall, the product is adequate and product support is very weak. I may look more at SohoWare products in the future.

5 of 5 Linksys Wireless USB Network Card. Thursday, January 17, 2002
A Customer from NJ
This thing ROCKS!. Setup was a cinch. It's presently on the second floor of my Colonial style home, and my signal is always near 80%. The Wireless router I have is also Linksys, and it's kept on the opposite side of my home. I would say the the distance between the router and the card is approx 35ft which is not really that much but the signal has no problem going through my plaster walls. I'm very please with this product.

1 of 5 USB Adaptor -use with Windows XP(?) Sunday, January 06, 2002
wlballard from Atlanta, GA
I recently purchased a Linksy wireless AP/router and installed it on home desktop running Windows 98. The device works great with a Linksys wireless PC card, allowing me to share the broadband cable modem with my laptop, anywhere in the house. The problem: purchased Linksys wireless USB adaptor for the brand-new "downstairs" computer, which runs Windows XP. Three days of downloads (drivers and utilities) and numerous contacts with Microsoft and Linksys convince me that the USB adaptor WILL NOT WORK with XP OS. Would love to hear otherwise since the whole point of the new computer was to have additional wireless access to the internet.

5 of 5 Great Product, SImple to Use Saturday, December 08, 2001
Doug L from Trenton, OH
I attached this USB Wireless NIC to my Home PC which has a cable modem attached and Windows 2000 Internet Connection sharing enabled. By attaching a second one to my son's PC and using the LinkSYS PCMCIA Wireless card (WAP11) both PC's now have Internet Access at Cable Modem speed ... works awesome... Highly recommend.

5 of 5 Great for Desktop or Notebook Tuesday, December 04, 2001
bschutz from Ogden, UT
I found out that the college I am going to was putting in a wireless network. Since it was using the 802.11b standard in the dorms I was goind to live in I knew this would work. Even though its a USB device there is no difference between it and a internal one. Actually its sometimes better for a desktop computer because it comes with a 6ft cord so you can move it around instead of the computer to get a good signal. Would highly recommend it connecting to a Access point. Linksys is a good company that makes great products. Very easy to install and probably best option for a desktop.

2 of 5 Dissapointing incompatibilities Tuesday, November 06, 2001
A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
I purchased this USB unit and a PCMCIA card together hoping to network my desktop and laptop in an ad-hoc wireless network. Three hours of flashing firmware and updating drivers, not to mention 40 minutes holding on Linksys's overworked tech-support line, the tech informed me that the USB and PCMCIA products will not communicate ad-hoc, but must be used with an access point, a fact stated nowhere in their litterature or on this site. I was most dissapointed and returned both units.
