Setup ease of this router is awesome. We are using it to connect to another linksys VPN router, a SonicWall Router, and others. Price can't be beat. Ease of connection and setup is quite simple. Be sure to have an understanding of how to setup a router or it takes a little bit, especially for setting up to another linksys.

After hours of fighting and dealing with tech support (Who told me to download and flash the firmware with the new version...One problem there wasn't a firmware upgrade for the version of the hardware I was sent). I have used a Netgear RT311 Router (that was later replaced with a Smoothwall Express setup) with no problems. But my Smoothwall computer suffered a CPU failure so I was looking for a replacement...but I could never get this thing to work. I pulled the old RT311 off the shelf, dusted it off and it worked.

If you connect to your ISP via PPPoA, do not order this product - it does not support the protocol. Interestingly, you can not find a listing of all of the protocols the device does support - you won't know until you first connect to it.

using two of them -- one for home network and one for school network -- can connect either way using VPN feature - easy to set up. also hangin vpn box off the home machine -- ONE PROBLEM (may be wiht VOIP device) if i hang router off of VOIP device (as suggested instead of vice versa) cisco VPN client on network pc (Not to be confused with befsx41 vpn functionality) goes bananas (technical for not working)

The Linksys BEFSX41 firewall router would not connect to a RCA DCM235 cable modem. The router would not recognize the ethernet link from the cable modem. The cable modem was supplied by Comcast, who tested it and found it working properly. An older Linksys BEFSR41 router (the non-firewall version) connects to this same cable modem just fine. Three different BEFSX41 devices were tried, and all had the same problem. Working with Linksys product support was a nightmare. I contacted product support four times, had to completely describe the problem each time, and was given the same useless suggestions each time. Despite giving a case number for referral on subsequent calls, these folks never save any information about the case. Attempts to send me new firmware upgrades via email failed twice because they sent empty emails (i.e., no attachments and no content). When the new firmware was finally downloaded from their website, the installation program failed and the new firmware could not be loaded. If you choose to purchase this product and it doesn't work properly right out of the box, don't waste your time trying to figure it out. And don't waste your time contacting Linksys product support. Return it and try another brand.

I use this device in a business campus environment as a router/firewall into the T1 router. The DHCP section serves up IPs to about 45 PCs located in 4 separate buildings connected via fibre. From time to time, the device seems to "lose its brains" and requires a hard re-start (power cycle). I don't believe this is an intrinsic fault; I believe that we have a misbehaving device on our network that overwhelms the Linksys unit. Over the last two months, we have cleaned things up on our network, and the Linksys unit has been rock solid, no re-boots necessary. Price is great, buy.com is the place to buy it.

Bought this to set up a home LAN, share an internet connection and printer, and to provide a firewall. Two computers are using Win 98 and one using Win XP. This was very easy to install and has worked great for the past week and a half.

Easy to setup and configure. We use this device so people from home can VPN into our system using this device purely as a hardware firewall/router. We can remotely upgrade and configure the devices from the office. highly recommended.

It is fast and easy to install, I haven't tested every single functionality yet, but it did not cut off internet connection, after I added firewall/url/keyword option. It's firewall is premature. you can not put IP on the firewall list, and you can not choose which port to block! Only method is by URL (eg: www.yahoo.com)!. It would be better If I can add IPs. I added "popup" on the firewall/keyword field and I am almost(?) popup free. (You can block adults sites too, but you have to add every single url, or keyword) If you are a server user you WILL be diappointed. However I recommend this product to everyone who just want to have a safe internet surfing environment from home without knowing nothing about internet security!

This Linksys Router is very easy to setup. My entire network was online in less than 30 minutes. Good user interface, although I did find myself getting a little confused as to where all the setup items were. I used this router to share a internet connection in a LAN with about 23 possible connections. I have a friend who is a networking manager at a major international company. This passed his inspection! Great piece of networking equipment for an unbelievable price.

I've not tried all of its functions. But the url/content/keyword feature on its firewall is something Linksys has to improve. Once you type in a keyword that you want to block, the Internet connection goes down. The router is very easy to set-up, very quiet, and one of the smallest Cable/DSL Routers that I've ever seen. Conclusion: not good enough for those who are looking for a true SPI.
