5 of 5Excellent Repository For All Those Files! Thursday, September 15, 2005 jitinarora from El Paso, TX
This drive is indeed quite small as the picture tries to indicate and is quite light as well. It is also the sleekest external drive I have seen to date with a smooth gray exterior and a metallic front panel with a small indicator light. Internally, it has a Seagate hard drive.
The drive works well and as described. I had to do a quick format on the drive from Windows XP before XP recognized it, but no drivers were needed although a driver CD is included. You will get about 46.5 GB of free space under Windows. File transfers are not as fast as the bigger external drives which is to be expected as it is a 4200 rpm hard drive. The drive light turns on when it is connected and changes color to indicate a read/write. I find it a great replacement for a USB jump drive that broke down; it is small and light enough to be very portable and yet offers a cavernous amount of storage for offloading stuff from my laptop's hard drive and for backup.
What makes it even better is that I got it for $86 while drives of similar size and capacity sell for well over $100. If it proves to be reliable in the long term, then nothing can be better. My next external hard drive is almost certainly going to be another LaCie.
