5 of 5 Great product! Saturday, August 15, 2009 A Customer from Bethlehem, PA
Awesome product! Cool look and it works great! Best part, NO AC power cord needed!! I had another hard drive made by a different company, I went to move it and when I put it down I dropped it about 2 inches, now that one is trash so I bought this one and it is amazing you could drop it and it still WORKS PERFECTLY! 5 of 5 So small and does the job well Tuesday, June 02, 2009 Krystal from Chicago, IL
It is great because I can just throw it in my back pack and go. I love the rubber-like case around it. And it came with all of its connection cords, so I didn't have to buy anything else. I love it. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 slow, hot, quiet, cheap Saturday, May 09, 2009 A Customer from Chapel Hill, NC
For the money, this is a great deal. I do find the 5400 RPM disks a bit slow, even when connected over FW800 to an iMac. It also gets hot, not hot enough to handle but hotter than I think a disk should be, long-term. This is mostly due, I'm guessing, to the double layers of insulation meant to battle physical shocks and the lack of a fan. With no fan, however, it is quiet enough to have next to a home theater, comparable to our DVR's disk noise, although I can hear it spinning up, which is not a significant issue to me. I do not use the included software, and the manuals that come on the disk are well written. Reformatting the disk for use in a Mac was simple but involves paying attention to the "GUID partition" setting to install an Mac OS on it; you can boot from this disk if you setup an OS partition; otherwise you'll need the Leopard DVD to boot (which is standard knowledge, but this is a good place to state it). For the price at Buy.com you can't beat all the connectivity options that the LaCie Rugged Hard Drive model 301371 gives you. The 500GB of storage the biggest in a 2.5 package available the rugged design and included software works for me. I use the FW800 connection with my Macbook Pro very fast transfer rates. If you are looking for a hard drive with a minimum of wires and a small footprint, this La Cie hard drive is as perfect for you as it is for me. No fan, almost inaudible, and the software is easy to set up to automatically make backups on a schedule. Was this review helpful?
