Product Guides

The DX7630 is a 6.1 MP camera powered with a Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 3x optical zoom lens. The high resolution CCD allows prints up to 30" x 40" (75 x 100 cm). Apart from the regular point-and-shoot features and the popular EasyShare compatibility, the DX7630 incorporates a high-speed, lowlight auto-focus with dual sensors that allow capturing in extreme lowlight conditions. A high-resolution indoor/outdoor 2.2-inch LCD viewfinder is another high point for the DX7630.

The looks and design are very much in line with a traditional film-based camera. Size wise it does have a prominent footprint. It measures 100.3 x 69.2 x 40.2 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 219 g (7.7 oz.) without batteries. The body is made of high quality plastic with the exception of the grip, which is rubberised. All the major controls are at the back, while the top has three buttons that control the flash and activates macro and landscape modes. An inbuilt speaker is situated on top, which is used for audio playback. The zoom lever encircles the clicking button and is ideally placed at the extreme right.

The large 2.2-inch LCD screen dominates the back of the camera with the optical viewfinder situated above it and the LCD on/off button to its left. To the right of the viewfinder lies the delete, menu and review buttons. The mode dial, which toggles between various modes, is situated to the right of the LCD. A five-way navigation controller smartly occupies the centre of the mode dial. It is used for quick navigation within the menus. The video out, USB and power-in connections are to the left side, while the battery compartment and memory card slot are at the bottom of the camera.

5 of 5 Excellent Product Thursday, September 22, 2005
A Customer from Panama City, FL

I have used this camera for several months now, and I am very happy with it. It is extremely easy to use, understand, and produces great photos. The accompanying software is loaded with useful features and makes editing and sharing my photos easy. The most striking feature is that this camera takes excellent photos, which do not blur or distort when viewing/zooming.

4 of 5 Good Value for the money Friday, July 29, 2005
A Customer from Katy, TX
I bought the camera for my wife last Christmas and she absolutely loves it. The quality of the pictures is impressive (I get many comments since I use various pictures as wallpaper on my office PC). The only downside is she has trouble getting pictures when standing in a lighted area and photographing into darker areas (daughters Orchestras concerts). Also, the latch which retains the battery is cheesy and broke fairly quickly - it does not seem to require it for the camera to function. I like it enough that I will probably buy a second one just for me :-)

4 of 5 Great value - Consumer Reports says VERY GOOD Wednesday, July 13, 2005
Steve from Riverside, CA
I researched via Consumer Reports extensively. This was by far the best-rated camera under $300. I also bought a digital photography book that explained in detail all the killer features. As a result, I take the best shots possible without using an SLR. Image quality was my most important criterion and this camera fits the bill. Buy.com offers the best price as well.

4 of 5 GREAT PICTURE/CHEAP PLASTIC Monday, January 31, 2005
A Customer from Lakeland, FL
Picture quality is excellent. The plastic wheel knob is a pain to turn. The button is so small you almost always skip over the selection you want. I was able to blow up a 6.1 MexaPixil image into a 20 x 30" poster and the quality was great and crystal clear.

5 of 5 Excellent Value - Satisfies the 35mm user Saturday, January 22, 2005
mrr275 from Rutherford, NJ
Having sampled other digitals I found that if I wanted more 35mm-like features the price jumped significantly. And the greatest concern was for battery life, e.g. how many shots per battery charge. The Kodak 7630 answered all those needs. It is fully automatic AND has features of a manual 35mm. I added a 256MB SD card and with the camera set for 4MP, I can easily take 100+ pix w/flash before needing to recharge -- I do turn off the display to extend the usage time. Also, the handling and feel is 35mm-like. Video w/audio feature is nice too. We have even used it for some "clay-animation" projects.

5 of 5 fantastic digital camera Sunday, January 16, 2005
janet from Rogers, AR
Just received the kodak 7630 about 2 weeks ago. I have been enjoying the camera. The quality of the pictures is fantastic. I took some photos from our airplane last week and I was amazed at the details in the pictures. Also the video took very good from the airplane and at home. This is my third Kodal digital and should hold me for alot of years. Camera is easy to use. Recommend highly. The battery also last a very long time.

5 of 5 Nice little camera Tuesday, January 04, 2005
ADR from New York, NY
Just had an opportunity to play with this camera and it takes some nice pics. There are many different picture taking modes, so it will take a bit to learn them, but in auto mode the thing is idiot proof. The video isn't so hot, but what do you expect it is not a DV camcorder. All in all very happy so far with this camera

5 of 5 Simply the best!! Tuesday, December 28, 2004
A Customer from Myrtle Beach, SC
So far Santa's gift has be absolutely wonderful. Thrilled with all the features, the quality is great, and the camera is easy to use (you do have to read the manual but that's pretty easy to follow) Couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I would suggest adding the 1 gig card.

5 of 5 Good Camera...Great Photos Friday, August 20, 2004
sredd68 from Newark, NJ
Just bought this camera for my wife to replace another camera for her birthday. This camera is so full of features you will never have the wrong camera. Over 20 different scene modes, auto mode and the manual modes (PASM). Pictures are wonderful. You cannot go wrong with this camera. This camera is one of the best point and shoot cameras you can buy when you compare features and price point. 6.1 megapixels, optical and digital zoom, and the previously mentioned shooting modes. Haven't seen too many other offer so much at the same price. I don't understand some of the negative reviews I've seen on this camera. Sure this camera is not perfect. It has its flaws, BUT all are defeatable if you take the time to learn the camera's capabilities. Why would anyone expect pro-level performance at this price point? Beats me. As I've heard from my piano teacher, "Practice! Practice! Practice!" If you are looking for a very good point and shoot digital with great photo quality, this IS your camera.
