Kodak EasyShare HDTV Dock
This HDTV dock is a piece of junk. I purchased it to view my professional photography in high definition on a high definition TV. It supports secure digital high definition (SDHD) cards and has a USB slot. I'm not using it to dock a Kodak camera. My biggest issue with this unit is that it doesn't support standard Windows filenames. If your filename is more than 8 letters long, it renames it to an old DOS filename with 8 letters using a ~ for part of the filename. If you use your computer to edit your camera files and rename them to anything longer than 8 letters, you'll have this problem. The dock has no way to organize your slideshow...it just shows pics in alphabetical order using the new 8 letter names. Kodak support acknowledged this and wasn't helpful at all. This is version 1 of this unit. Several firmware updates are already on Kodak's website. None address this issue. Other smaller concerns with this unit include: You can't power it off during a slideshow. You need to stop the slideshow first. The USB slot on the side of the unit is mounted upside down. It only supports component cables, not HDMI. I've read where it doesn't support multimedia slide shows, but I haven't tried that. This unit also crops a 16:9 image. I've tried it on several TV's and the amount cropped seems to vary depending on the overscan of the TV. This is more of a TV issue than a dock issue. Also, this unit only recognizes BASELINE jpg...not progressive. One positive note: The speed reading the SDHC card, whether via the SDHC slot or the USB slot was reasonably quick. Much faster than the built in card reader on a friend's Panasonic Plasma TV. One final caution. If you decide to try this unit, check on the return policy where you buy it. The online retailer I bought from would only replace it with another same unit. Was this review helpful?
