5 of 5 great value Wednesday, December 24, 2008
A Customer from Chicago suburbs
Sleak, easy to use (plug and play), and a great value for the money at the Buy.com sale price of $8.48 with free shipping. The security feature is a plus and easy to use, just be sure to set up how much space you want to allocate to the secure zone BEFORE you start copying files to the non-secure area (setting up the security feature re-formats the drive). The flip cover is a nice alternative to having a removable cap and does not get in the way of other externals you might have connected to a laptop. It took a little over a week to receive this item, which is long compared with previous items I've purchased here, but not excessive and well within the window for standard shipping. (I did not pay extra to select the express shipping option.)

This is what I wanted and it has a security part with a pssword. It took long to reach me, I think it is because of holiday rush.

When it's on sale, this is one of the best values around in a 4Gb USB drive. The integrated cover is handy.

4 of 5 Wish that I'd found this sooner! Monday, December 22, 2008
A Customer from Logan, UT
The secure data traveler does what it advertises with a minimum of fuss. I love the encryption to protect sensitive data on the stick. Requiring Admin priviledges to access the secure area is a downside, as it renders it generally unusable on most public computers and in many workplaces where IT does not permit users to have Admin priviledges. The product works well and does what it advertises, so I can't complain. What I would really like to see is a USB stick that doesn't require special drivers/programs on the host PC but that work entirely self-contained, allowing it to function on any machine. I definitely recommend this product if you are going to be using it on machines where you have Administrative priviledges; otherwise, it funtions just as a fancy USB memory stick and if you watch the sales you can pick up a regular stick for cheaper.

Great buy. Very satisfied with the product and its size, not sure about the swivel desing. It does not seem very protective. Agree with the prevouis review about lack of instructions.

5 of 5 The perfect thumb drive & comes with instructions Sunday, December 21, 2008
Darlene from Portland, Oregon
I have bought four of this brand and style of thumb drive, three pink (2GB) and one cyan (4GB). I found the design to be ideal: no lost caps, since the cap swivels on/off; a very sturdy attachment point for a lanyard (through the metal cap); an extended length when open, making it easier to plug it in; and a narrow body, so the drive can fit any USB configuration. The drive itself contains the SecureTraveler software and instructions. So contrary to a previous review, you do not need to go to the Kingston website to learn how "to set up public and password-protected privacy zones" on this drive. The information comes WITH the drive; it's just not in printed form. This truly is the PERFECT thumb drive. What you get for the price is amazing. And as always, the best price is on Buy.com. If you can wait (i.e., you're not in a hurry), you will eventually find it with free shipping. But even if you have to pay shipping, it's a great deal.

5 of 5 Perfect for me Sunday, December 21, 2008
Bob from Brentwood, CA
I am using it for playing my mp3's in my car. Even my 1gig with 300 songs was getting so I remembered what came next. Then I would have to delete all and reload it. With this 4 gig model, it should be a while before I get repeats and just maybe it won't be as easy to start humming the next song before it even starts. Because what is being sold as music today is so trashy, and radio is so full of commercials, I just listen to my oldies on my player/fm transmitter commercial-free. I'm a happy guy.

5 of 5 Good deal!! Thursday, December 18, 2008
David S from Red Bay Alabama
Got the drive in record time from buy.com. Not bad for free shipping. I do not think you can find another 4 gb drive at this price. Only buy.com could produce a price like this. Works like a charm. I am keeping all my addresses and phone numbers on it... and on the secure area with password, I am keeping all my passwords. If my hard drive ever fails, I will be all set without losing them this time.

4 of 5 good product but no instructions Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Norman from Palm Harbor, FL
This is the second item I've bought from Buy.com. Each time the shipping was free and arrival was within a week. However, I wanted this memory stick because it would provide a secure memory allocation. Great idea but when it arrived there was no instruction as to how to create and access this privacy sector. I had to go online to the manufacturer's website to find instructions for this operation. It worked but the initial frustration was unnecessary.

5 of 5 Worth the Wait? Tuesday, September 23, 2008
rita from Okeechobee, FL
I had to wait over a month to receive the yellow version of this.I wrote a review earlier but it isn't here. I was surprised to find out the price had dropped over $2. since my order. I guess I was naive to think buy.com would credit me. It was still a great buy. In the meantime, I've been using the blue. It's great. It does work on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Vista Home Premium--just plug it in. I also use it on a Thinkpad TabletPC X61 with Windows XP and my trusty old Dell Dimension 8300 with XP. The security feature is what I wanted and easy to use. You create secure and non-secure partitions. The flip lid makes it even more convenient: no top to search for and by opening to a 90 degree angle, it will fit into tight spots. I have two other non-secured Kingston flash drives. I've never had a problem with any of them using with Windows XP, Vista or Mac 10.xxx versions.

4 of 5 Comes pre-loaded with Junk Software Thursday, September 18, 2008
Ryan Stonecipher-Fisher from Columbia, MO
Pros: This product is exactly what it claims to be - a 4GB USB2 thumb drive. Cons: 1) The drive comes pre-loaded with an installer for "SecureTraveler", a Windows-only software-based encryption program. Kingston makes no such software available for Mac OS or Linux on the drive or its website. 2) The packaging for the drive states that the drive is compatible with Windows Vista, which is a ridiculous and unnecessary claim; USB2 is backward-compatible with USB1 controllers and works with many operating systems including Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, Linux, and Mac OS.

1 of 5 Kingston makes Junk Friday, September 05, 2008
A Customer from Sterling, VA
This is a piece of junk. Does not work. It specifically mentions that it is Vista compatible. But it does not work with Vista. Windows Vista just don't recognize it. I had another Kingston DataTraveller that also didn't work. I thought the unit may have gone bad and I baught another junk. Returning it back today.

5 of 5 Great form factor, great price Sunday, August 24, 2008
A Customer from Hatboro, PA
I like the fact that this flash drive has no cap to lose and that the connector is not retractable (moving parts are more likely to wear/break). The metal clip swivels to protect the USB connector, although the connector is not tightly sealed and can be exposed to dust/lint when not is use (obvious from the picture but not a concern to me). The metal swivel has two small holes at the rounded end (barely visible in the picture) for a strap/key chain, so I was pleasently surprised to see this feature, although a strap/chain is not included. I have not yet used the Secure Traveler software.

5 of 5 Handy flashdrive Monday, August 18, 2008
Evan from North Ogden, Utah
In order to install Windows XP on my daughter's Eee PC, I needed someplace to save files that had to be removed. The Kingston 4GB DataTraveler was just what I needed. It had plenty of space for the removed files, transfer was fast, and it worked without a hitch.

5 of 5 Nice! Monday, August 18, 2008
A Customer from Middletown, DE
Works great, but you can't open secure and unsecure data at the same time. If you divide the drive in two parts, each one looks to the system like at 2 gb USB key. I'm not sure that's bad, just a bit confusing. Also, I wish BUY.COM would just sell their 32 GB USB keys for about $20 so I could buy it and quit buying all these little ones. I have 64mb, 256mb, 512, 1gb, 2gb, and now 4gb! They were all such great values!?...

1 of 5 DOES NOT WORK Saturday, August 16, 2008
B Davis from RIverside, CA
I have 10 or so of these things by several different manufacturers and this is the first one I have purchased that didn't work . . . period. I plugged it in to my laptop, my desktop computer, and my computer at work. Didn't work on any of them. Now I see that I CANNOT return it. I have spent a bucket of bucks on buy.com. I will rethink that and read the fine print in the future. I definitely will avoid Kingston. Live and learn.

5 of 5 Kingston stands behind their product. Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Jordan, finchpx from Torrington, CT
i purchased this drive only because of the super low buy.com price ($15.00 i think). a friend of mine needed to use it to move some data around and when he returned it to me, i formatted the drive to clean it out. when i tried to use it myself, the software on the drive had been erased and i only had 381 MB of useable storage on the device!! I e-mailed kingston when i realized that i had formatted and erased the privacy application on the drive. within 5 minutes, a kingston representative sent me a link to download the application again. i followed the link, downloaded the app and was logging in to use the drive in no time. i got my privacy application back as well as the 4 GB of disk space i was expecting. once i use the drive myself to move some data around at work, i felt comfortable reviewing this drive and giving the product 5s across the board. kingston stands by their product and customer support is phenomenal! hope this review helps. the bottom line is if you can get your hands on this drive for less than $20 go for it and dont even think twice.

5 of 5 Kingston 4GB Flash Memory Tuesday, August 12, 2008
Albert from Jonestown, PA
This Flash Memory is great. The software is simple to set-up your security and your level of memory for each section. Limits are that you cannot view both sections of memory at same time. Could use a way to connect strap. Cannot go wrong for the cost.

5 of 5 Nice USB flash drive Saturday, August 09, 2008
John from Colorado
I really like the swivel cap on the drive. I have a tendency to lose the separate caps so I wanted something that was all connected. This is my third try. The first drive (from a different manufacturer) didn't work right (maybe because of the security software on it?). The second type was too thick so I couldn't plug in two USB devices side-by-side. I must be like Goldilocks, because this one was just right.

5 of 5 Can't beat the price or the quality Wednesday, August 06, 2008
Patrick Lay from Crown Point, Indiana
This small, sturdy 4GB flash drive made by Kingston was a steal at a little less than $16.00. I had not seen a $4.00/GB price anywhere before this. For now I use it as the ReadyBoost cache file for my Windows Vista Home Premium system, which meant I had to reformat it. However, if later on I want to use the SecureTraveler software that comes with the drive, I can go the Kingston site and download it, so nothing is lost. My system has 4GB installed RAM, and the ReadyBoost system uses up to an additional 3.7GB from the Kingston drive when necessary. I really like that feature in Vista (which does have a lot of memory 'needs', especially if you don't turn off some of it's features). Overall I'm very pleased with the price, quality and reliability of the drive, and free shipping was icing on the cake. It actually came the day after I ordered it!

5 of 5 "just in case" because you never know, r Tuesday, August 05, 2008
cmf90066 from Los Angeles, CA
I have an old Verbatim thumb drive with Vsafe 100 to keep the data secure. It has serve me well in the last 2 years or so. However, this new Kingston 4 GB jump drive with SecureTraveler security software is far more superior. It boots up way faster than my old Verbatim. Technology has improved and Kingston has delivered a great product. It back ups my photos, videos and important files. I hide it away from my laptop for the "just in case" because you never know, right? For the price I paid for it, it very good value. Thanks, Buy.com!

5 of 5 great price for that storage size Tuesday, August 05, 2008

pivoting hinge is the +++, very good price for that size. Writing speed was a lot faster than I expected. Haven't tred the security feature yet but I used the drive to save movies and short videos onto my Eee so no need for that added stuff.

5 of 5 Great Little Package Tuesday, August 05, 2008
Glenn from San Antonio
I have enjoyed using my new DataTraveler 101. It's not quite as tiny as Kingston's even smaller "Mini" or "Mini Slim" models, but its innovative cover and still very small footprint make it handy, convenient, and easy to carry. I use it with a Mac, and its security system, while not functional on Mac OS X, is also not in the way the way U3 can be sometimes. Overall, this is a great little device, and a really great value.
