The Keyspan Remote for iTunes is a powerful infrared remote that allows you to control iTunes and other multimedia applications on your Mac or PC in the same convenient way that you now control your home TV.

How it Works...

The remote controls your multimedia applications by sending them the same keystrokes that you do when you control the application from a keyboard. For example, pressing the spacebar on the keyboard causes iTunes to play a track. The remote sends the same key to iTunes when you press the 'play' button on the remote -allowing you to control iTunes from across the room.

I'm using this as the remote for a media center PC in the kitchen. Even with the remote sensor mounted, barely visible, beneath the cabinet, the remote still works from a good distance. The configuration software is highly flexible - with button presses mappable to mouse actions, key presses, executable launches, and more. You can also specify different mappings, per button, depending on which application is currently active. I'd definitely recommend this product.

I bought this to use with MediaPortal on a laptop which serves as an HTPC. It works well enough; my only complaint is that I wish it had one more button to give me more navigation control. The receiver isn't great - I have to aim at a pretty small area to get a response, but it's also limited by its position inside my entertainment center. An LED on the receiver lights when it's receiving a signal, which is helpful feedback given the difficulties of aiming. The software used to configure the remote is a little clunky but does the job; it allows buttons to be set up on a per-application or overall system basis, which is nice.

What can I say: This remote works exactley as it's descibed. I have not complaints. However I would make a suggestion. Add a power button so you can turn off your pc. You can do it with the arrow keys or re-assign a button but having a dedicated power button would be nice. While I'm at it a "close application" button would be good to. Anyway this a great remote! I bought two of them.
